No. 4 - I'm scared about spending. More scared that we don't make enough money. You can only cut so much until you have to start upping income. I'm afraid to talk to my boss about me finding another job cause I'm afraid he'll take that to mean I don't like it and want to leave, and he'll let me go right then.

There is no need for your boss to know that you’re looking for another job until you give your notice to leave for the new job.

If you mean telling your boss about looking for a side hustle, again, unless you plan to go work for a competitor, there is no need for your boss to know.

That’s because people on these boards have been giving the same advice for a long time. More than a year. And yet you still have been taking vacations, spending money you don’t have, and letting your wife ruin your financially (or use her as an excuse, I’m not sure which at this point). Posters are tired of giving advice that doesn’t get taken.

Honestly, we haven't take a vacation since our work trip to Chicago in July. But I digress. I am changing and doing better. It's just taken a while, unfortunately. I want it to happen overnight and suddenly see all this money in my budget by cutting stuff here and there. I've read and taken a lot of the advice. I think that can be seen by anyone.

Because that's just the relationship people in my company have. It's an extremely small company (only 6 of us upstairs and 20 in the entire company). I've told him from the beginning that if something was happening, I'd let him know. And he told me if anything was going down that affected me (and my job status), he'd give me a heads up. He said as long as we're honest and up front with each other, then that's all he can ask. It's a lot different here, and I really, really like it. Much more family oriented.

What about the trip to WDW that you were scheduled to take earlier this month? You know, the one that you had to go on because you got a room thru your niece who is a CM and it was already paid for and you would lose $$ in airfare if you didn't go? Did you take that trip?

I'm curious because if you ended up staying home, did Disney refund the money you paid for the room? And if that's the case, where did that refund money go?

Don't believe him..... I worked at a Family Business for 2 years and planned on working there a lot longer, until the economy slowed down, and I was shown the door on a Friday with no warning.

I also worked at a “we are family” business where the owner and founder still ran the show. It was code for “we’re not very professional here and there is no HR to go to with issues” They paid below market value, too.

They did give people two months notice before a round of layoffs. We had a nice celebration for them in the conference room. Which didn’t really help anything and just made things awkward for these folks who had to keep coming in knowing their job got cut. The rest of us could all see how bitter they were. There was a lot of gossiping. A healthy severance package and a clean cut would have been better, I’m sure.

On the flip side, the owner got mad when someone left with the standard two weeks notice. Demanded at least two months which is very unrealistic. One person had to finish a project after they left, in their spare time, which I don’t think was legal.

WDW_fan_in_TX, if you find a new job, your new employer will expect you to start within two weeks of offering you the job, no matter how loyal you feel toward your old company.

I have learned that loyalty is a one way street no matter how long you have been with the business

As a small business owner, all I ask is that they let me know when they can if they plan on making a change. I will support them and even help them to find a better job for in the community. However, I don’t expect nor try to require a long notice period. My intent would be if we ever had to let everyone go to give them is much notice as possible but I know that may not be realistic based on the situation. So I would not communicate now for something that may or may not ever happen.
