How to book SW before receiving the companion pass?

I will get the CP in April? (not sure when the closing date for the statement will be bc I haven't yet received the biz card lol). Do I book both dh and I now using my RR points which means I'd have to transfer UR to SW to have enough? Do I book us each using our own RR points? Do I book one person w cash and one with points? I'd be booking each leg separately as the return date won't be available until March 14.

Chase thinks I have the memory of a goldfish...
"NEW Offer, earn 5000 bonus points" when you upgrade to IHG Premier and make one purchase.

NOPE! Same cruddy offer you've been hawking for months, nothing new about it, still not an interesting offer. Especially since the other week they invited me to apply for the new card for the 80k bonus... hm, 5k or 80k? (I'm still taking neither as I'm happy with my $49 AF.)

Haha, DH got that same offer in the mail yesterday. I put it straight into the recycle bin.

Absolutely wait until the AF posts to cancel. You have 30 days to get it refunded, so maybe even wait a few days after it posts to cancel. No one knows for sure what Amex is using to base the denial-of-bonus popups, but canceling before AF posts/before a year is definitely a factor.

I cancelled dh's SPG biz yesterday, the fee posted last week. I am going to try for the BBP for him in the next few days (after a couple of charges post on his Hilton). We will see if he gets the popup. Of course I don't spend much on his cards, so if he gets it, that could also be the reason.

I usually book myself with points, then add DH as my companion later on....but we don’t usually fly at super busy times so the flights don’t sell out far in advance.
If your concerned that the flight may sell out...book whoever is going to be the companion with points so they get returned to your account...if you book them with a cash non refundable ticket the credit can only be used by them

I do the same as @palhockeymomof2 - the only one I worried about booking both of us on points before having CP was our wedding trip.

I always book each of us separately and for one ways. This way if the price changes I can do it just for one and not have to call in since when I have to call in I tend to lose the lower cost flight by the time the csr gets on the phone to help.
I would book yours on rr points and then wait on doing your DH till you get the CP unless you see there is only one flight left. As long as there is a seat your companion can fly.

While obviously TPG approved & profits from it but this particular article was written by Mommy Points :furious:
I have a conspiracy theory y'all.... this site, when it posts 'helpful' info like this (think tesla article) is playing the part of bewildered yet 'helpful' player of the 'game'..... yet is owned by a company that is owned and funded by banks etc. These articles aren't meant to be helpful to anyone, they're 'backdoor' way of outing one method or another in a way that draws more people into the fray, causing more publicity/outcry and then shutdowns....after which said site will proclaim innocence or merely wanting to 'share helpful information'..... kind of the same idea that negative publicity is still publicity....none of it is what it appears to be on ths surface, and it is fulfilling its intended purpose. (IMHO)

I wonder if that puzzle is an eligible purchase... I could use the savings to build the bigger wall I'd need to hang it :p
someone in my local disney garage sale FB group is selling that puzzle and a bunch of others for like $5..... I'm not a puzzle person but maybe look online?

/tinfoil hat off.

No one's getting shut down because of using the CIP on Plastiq or buying GCs with Amex's airline fee credit. I think it's much more simple. These blogs publish, as Mommy Points calls them "off label" tips to enhance the perceived value of cards that they're pushing, driving people to apply for them through their affiliate links, making these sites money.

The Barclay Arrival + is awesome! I just met the spend and my 70k bonus posted the same day! No wait! Now to put the final $600 on my CIC and get the bonus. Now to decide what card DH needs- either an Arrival + or CIU? Do we think the + bonus is going away soon?
I agree! I love how fast the points post for this card :) Having our new windows installed today so that will finish off my dh's MSR for the card!

Thanks :-) I'll go ahead and book myself as soon as dh confirms his schedule. There should be plenty of seats left for him because there are many BWI-LAS flights daily and we would be flying midweek both times.

Applied for CIC yesterday. Got the more time and the phone line today said 2 weeks....not sure if that is good or bad. This is my first entry on the business side although I did all the work and got my wife approved for the SW Biz last year to get the companion pass.

Also PM for getting in on the reddit thread??

2 weeks is the good one :) 30 days means they haven't looked at it yet, 2 weeks means it wasn't rejected out of hand and most likely gets to approval, 7-10 days means there's a letter coming in the mail - either a denial or they need some verification before they can approve it. If you get 2 weeks and then 7-10 days most times that means they need verification.

To get into reddit PM @SouthFayetteFan , @Albort or @Lain

I always have a reservation for every person (even when waiting on a CP to come through or a CP change). I know it's largely paranoia but a flight could sell out at any time (although it is so unlikely). I also have the luxury of having enough points to just book placeholder reservations to save my spot. If I didn't have the points, it wouldn't work because as @palhockeymomof2 said - a cash reservation can't be converted to a CP ticket and so you'd just be out money that way.

REMINDER: DISchurners support thread refresh announcement
It appears that only about half of us have completed this to date. Also - I updated the DISchurners message to point to the new threads now this week. Please move your comment to the new thread if you want to continue to have the opportunity for support.

The easiest way to do this is:
1) Go to your OLD comment in the OLD thread
2) Click EDIT
3) COPY the entire comment text in the edit box
4) PASTE the comment text as a NEW comment in the NEW thread
5) CHECK all links to make sure they are active and working
You do NOT need to delete your old comment when done, you can just leave it in that thread.

This process will help you not have to re-do all your formatting. Side note: It is best to access DISchurners in old reddit.

On Friday I will remove the old threads with only the new threads remaining.

My 2/11 $200 AA GC posted and document type is unfortunately gift certificate. The one on 2/7 that did credit has document type misc taxes/fees. I doubt it'll credit, but a tiny part of me is still holding out hope. Think I'll wait a few days before asking for an airline change and going for a Southwest GC.

Looking for opinions.

DHs oldest card is a secured Capital One Platinum Mastercard with a $19 Annual Fee. No rewards/benefits. Opened Jan 2014. To get the AF refunded he needs to cancel it by Sunday. Or he can product change it, with the options being:
  • Venture One: 1.25 miles/$ on everything, no AF
  • Quicksilver One: 1.5% cashback on everything, keep $19 AF (vs $39 AF listed on website, looks like it's basically a secured version of the Quicksliver card)
I just don't know how badly he needs this card for his credit score/age of accounts. Other accounts, ignoring Biz, are:

Best Buy - opened 1/2014, closed 3/2017
Kohl's - opened 4/2014
Discover It - opened 4/2014
Sears - opened 9/2014, closed 6/2018
Sears - opened 9/2014
Jared - opened 1/2015, closed 12/2018
BoA Cash Rewards - opened 2/2015
First Bank Visa - opened 11/2015, closed 12/2018
Arrival Plus - opened 3/2016
Disney Visa - opened 8/216
SPG Personal - opened 8/2016
CSR - opened 8/2017
SPG Lux - opened 8/2018
SW Priority - opened 11/2018

Obviously the man was a mess of opening store cards before I got involved (and the Bank Visa which was never used, because he believed the teller who told him store CCs and his Discover/BoA weren't good enough to build credit to buy a house, he needed a bank CC too - I was a bit grumpy when we started churning and I had to include that in his 5/24 count).
