I just don't understand. someone please help me

I would much rather pay the $5.99 and have free upgrades for life than see ads on my apps. Besides, we all know how strict Pete is about advertisers on this web site. He wouldn't want to see ads on his app that he didn't approve of and maybe he wouldn't have a lot of control over that??

I use Twitterific Premium, not just Twitterific because I don't want the ad. It's a one time purchase, not nickeling and diming. I bet half of the complainers didn't blink when they ponied up the $4.99 for Toy Story Mania for the iPhone. I love TSM, but I will get far more use out this app and I will get the Disneyland app when they finish that up!

How are they nickle and dimeing us???? They don't charge for us to listen to the podcast and they don't charge us to use the disboards. They gave us a FREE party last year at Hollywood Studios. So if you have to pay a measly 5.99 for an app that there is no telling how many hours went into making I don't think that is a big deal let alone nickle and dimeing us.

I never said they where, I said it could be perceived as such. I did not give my opinion on what I think the app might or might not be worth. Fact is that this app is 3 times the price of an average iphone app, kinda like eating at Disney is 3 times the price of eating at burger king. Its my opinion that both are worth my money, but it might not be everyones.

Also, everything about the dis is here to drive the business for its owners. The website, the podcast, even the partys and the cruse all have a very positive effect on the bottom line of dreams unlimited. While they might not see any money directly from these things, they pay off 10 fold down the line with customer loyalty. (Disney should really try this business model, but really they don't have to because people go back year after year regardless)

Dreams would not be what it is today without the dis and the podcast, and the dis and the podcast would not be what it is today unless dreams saw a benefit from it.

You make an interesting point. Now my rebuttal :rotfl:

I guarantee a lot more time and effort and manpower went into the development of Toy Story Mania for the iphone, and its selling for a buck less then the dis app.

Again, not trying to take away from the dis app, just an interesting point.

I think it was DisneyBridein2K3 that explained that she paid either .99 or $1.99 per park. We were we so inclined...we could have charge per park. Let's see....there are four theme parks, 2 water parks, Downtown Disney. There's $6.93 right there.

If we add in every Disney resort, Putt putt golf, Wide World of Sports....well I'm sure you can see my point.

That might be construed as "nickle and diming".

While we are on that subject.....isnt "nickle and diming" someone when you charge them for every little thing they want to do? Isnt that the definition of "nickle and diming"?

How much are you paying to use the Dis that you feel buying something for $5.99 would qualify using that definition?

The one thing I find kinda hypocritical is the podcast goes off on Disney all day long about "nickle and Diming the consumer" yet this could be looked at as the same thing.

Based on what I know your answer to my last question to be....I kinda find this statement offensive.

Dreams would not be what it is today without the dis and the podcast, and the dis and the podcast would not be what it is today unless dreams saw a benefit from it.

Just to set the record straight....Dreams Unlimited Travel is in it's 10th year of business.

The podcast celebrated it's 3rd anniversary this year.

I would venture to say a lot more time and effort went into TSM because the developers had much deeper pockets for a staff and had a larger targeted market (games / gamers).

What the DIS has done with Project X is more specialized IMHO for a specific purpose. I don't think the Dis folks were planning for the volume of TSM for Project X.

Again, the beauty of it all is no one has to download the program.

I am interested to know how useful the app will be without data. Being from Canada, I turn off my data as soon as I cross the boarder. Since this app uses google maps, will I be able to have stored information on my phone without needing to connect?
this is a good question. i don't know much about how the data stuff works. i'm planning on getting an iPhone before i go to WDW and i'll definitely buy the DIS app, but if my overseas data rates are excessive, then it might not be worth it. hmmm.

Hello Kevin, looks like you don't sleep ether. :-)

Ok, let’s not get defensive here, I have yet to say that I think this app is overpriced, all I have said that it is more expensive than the average app and I see why some people (and we know some do) feel that it is. People should refrain from "flaming" people from thinking it’s out of there price range.

Anything I said that you consider offensive I do apologize for, not my intent.

Ok, I am going to try and reply to your comments; I am not as good as breaking them up as you. :)

Ok, so yes, you could break up this app into pieces and charge less for it, I see your point, I agree with your point. I have planned on buying this product from day one. I have no idea if it’s worth the money, and I won’t know till after I buy it. At that point I will come to my own opinions. I am sure you can relate to that.

"Nickel and diming”, bad choice of words. First thing that came off the top of my head, a term I have heard around the boards often. My statements still apply. Its more, some people could consider 4.99 to be overpriced, just like some people consider 14.00 to be over priced for parking, but, in both cases it was a business decision to recover costs. Is ether one right or wrong, no. People chose to buy or they chose not to buy. Neither is crazy for making the decisions they need to make to sustain a business.

I think using the website as an example is not really fair. Do I think I owe you for keeping this website up? Absolutely not. Do I appreciate it? HELL YA. It’s a great service, and is the very reason I suggest dreams to anyone I know who is unable to "fend for themselves" with a Disney vacation and my first cruse will be booked with you as well. This is a direct result of dis.com and the podcast.

I never said that dreams and the podcast have been around for the same amount of time. I said the dis, the podcast, and all the little perks you guys offer are GREAT for your business. You know this to be true. I think that’s a great thing, for your clients, for you fans and for your business. I applaud what you guys have done and hope it continues. My point was the success of one, fuels the other.

Nope, your absolutely right. It will be much easier for TSM to recover the cost of development because they are able to sell so many more copies, therefore they can charge a lesser amount. Its easy for me to understand why project X would need to charge a bit more because it will sell to a much smaller group of people.

But, :rotfl:

The point I was trying to get at is this. Disney attendance is down this year, so we can come to the conclusion that prices increased to help make up the lost revenue of the higher attendance. People then line up on the dis to bash Disney for once again upping prices, but someone mentions that maybe they feel that this app is overpriced and people jump all over them.

Your right about people having a choice, they can buy it, or they can skip it. They can go to Disney, or they can stay home. But do we really need to jump out and go crazy and be harsh if they don't agree with the masses?

Just like when Kevin does a review, people don't tell him to stay home because he never seems to like eating out. He has his opinions and sometimes they differ from others. I still respect them, and I will let him say I told ya so when I go to Kuzina (sp) and come back not liking it.

I fully understand your way of communicating. Some people just don't understand that can actually bring up a point without necessarily feeling that way. And also, adults tend to behave in similar ways as teenagers. They want to be a part of the "In" crowd. The podcast team and everyone associated with them are "The cool kids". To some people, the podcast team can do no wrong. It doesn't matter if you make sense or not......If it's not a flattering remark, then you might as well not make it.

I do buy apps, for my Blackberry. But those apps are not just duplicate web pages in a different format.

You can always ignore my posts if you want to. The question about porting to other devices was meant for the DIS owners. There is no way you could really answer it in the first place.

Sorry if I offended you or anyone else.

I rarely post, but wanted to express how thoroughly disgusted and appalled I am that loyal listeners of the podcast would have to pay for this app.! Don’t the team realise the hours we have put in listening to the podcast - for free! The time we have taken from our busy schedule to read the disboards – for free! The times certain members have had to spend thinking of their latest complaint and then posting it – for free! How dare you force us to buy an app for an iphone…even when I don’t have an iphone!

Simply disgraceful!!!!

I’m off to listen to past podcasts whilst driving 18 hours to visit my wife’s uncle’s cousin who is ill an when I get back I’ll stir up more sh*t to compensate for my sad existence.

Oh yes, sorry if I offened anyone...I am off course joking

Speaking of making sense....

.

The Dis didnt spend 4 Billion Dollars on another website and start claiming their vistors are down so they need to up the price of something else as a justification.

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Yep, I want to be part of this E-club and to do so I will throw logic and common sense out the window. :confused3 Don't think so.

There are plenty of things I disagree with the Dis Folks on, couple of examples, I love the Treehouse Villas when we stayed there regardless of the Dis review, plan on going back.

Another is a car service that has been banned from the Dis (not sure for what) but there is no way in heck I am using anyone else. IMHO, the Dis totally missed the boat on them.

But that is ok, I listen to options and if I don't like what they are saying I do what I want. My money, my time.

I just have think lately there are people who contantly gripe about the Dis, yet they continually stick around griping. Why not go some where else if this place is that misearble?

On another note, How about dem Saints? !!!!!

The price of the app will be $5.99 right? I have a hard time believing that anyone can honestly feel that this is a lot of money.

My personal problem is that I didn't have this app available when I went in August, it sounds like it would have been useful.
