I just don't understand. someone please help me

I disagree Frank. You are now friendless!

You were his friend? See I thought he didn't have any....well i guess not anymore. I can't be friends with anyone faster than me, so I only have out with 3rd graders.

I've been part of many Disney message boards and newsgroups for many years. I've even been a moderator on some of them.

The basic rule I stood by over the years was that if you share your opinion, and it's not attacking the person, but the topic, most people are not going to jump on you for that. That's served me pretty well all the years.

I've always been pretty vocal when I agree or disagree here. And I was willing to call out anyone I felt was stepping over the line. I've found people on EVERY board or group to have plenty of juvenile behavior, not always meant in jest. And I've found on EVERY board a bunch of people who will bond over the shared enjoyment.

I weeded out the jerks who thought it was fun to compare me to Hyacinth Hippo in Fantasia. But I've embraced all the CAKE and PIE lovers who welcomed me. And I've bonded with quite a few.

Anyone who says the DIS isn't a clique is wrong in some ways. There are groups who have bonded over shared experiences, like the first podcast cruise. I really bonded with the people who played VMK, and I've bonded with the foodies. There are lots of overlaps among the groups, because we all share a fondness for Disney. So just by being here, we're already part of a HUGE clique.

Does it seem like the "cool kids" are having more fun? Check out how long the "cool kids" have been members of the DIS, and check the post count. The "cool kids" didn't get that way overnight.

I never got my "cool kid" membership card. Must have gotten lost in the mail.

The app is $6.

I love how people are complaining when they paid anywhere from $200-$300 for the iTouch/iPhone.

And the app hasn't even come out yet! Reserve judgement.

I'm excited, and will buy it the first day it comes out. :)

I've spent my life thinking I was different and trying to hide it, apologize for it and overcome it..

I'm not different. I'm just like everyone else and this board has made me understand that. I have found a level of acceptance and friendship and community here that astounds me.

Unlike a pack of dogs who are only motivated by their own individual need, I feel strongly about anyone throwing rcoks at this group for any reason.

Your post accuses "some" of these people as being juvenile in order to be a "cool kid". I see this very differently. I see this as them feeling the way I do....protective. Protective of something I dont find many other places.

Spend some time reading these boards and you will find the same sentiment over and over and over. There are some strong bonds in this group. Friendships have been forged. People are getting support here that they dont find other places.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. We laugh, we cry, we celebrate, we mourn, we console, we rejoice.....all of these things are here for anyone that wants to partake. We exclude no one.

Whether you have singled out inviduals or used the vague term "some"....you have thrown stones at a group that I dont feel deserves to be hit with rocks.

I'm not different. I have found that there are many here like me and I will defend them when I feel it's necessary.

I do whatever I can to make my girls world bigger than the lunch table at school and that is what the disboards do for me.

There is no one in my family or anyone at all that I know that love's WDW like I do. Doe's that make me strange here in NE PA, yep, but somewhere there really are other people that feel like I do and it is here on the Disboards.

Thank you for defending me.

I hope that everyone can remember that this is just a debate. Try not to pass judgment on someone based on there opinions.

My biggest fear is that one day I will be down in florda on vacation and run into Kevin, Pete or John and want to just say "hey, love the show, thanks for everything" and have them recaganize the screen name and think "oh, its that guy".

Those that feel like an outsider or not part of the "cool kids" we were all that person. We choose to keep posting, get to know people and become friends. I was friends with a lot of these people before I ever met them. I've seen new people quickly become fast friends and new people quickly become ignored. I have disagreed with many on issues even the podcast. I choose to pick my battles and have decided few are worth fighting on a message board. Most are opinions and seldom can they be changed via a few posts. I will come to bat when I think fingers are pointed unfairly.

I hate to go off on another tangent, but when I started here I was very unsure of the group of people that gathered. I live in a small town, not a lot of diversity. The podcast turned me off at times, but I kept listening and grew to know them. When Bob died I honestly felt a huge loss, someone I had never met I mourned. When I met the crew and talked to them, interacted with other board members we grew closer. When they attack some on this board, they attack all. If we don't agree with them we will still defend them from attack. I'm not sure what else there is to say, my thoughts have gone to mush.....while I completely understand the need to post opinions of things such as Project X, I don't understand the point of attacking "some" to make your point. If others don't agree with you, that is up to them. Just because the don't agree saying it is because they are the "cool kids" only hurts your argument.

Sorry if I rambled, trying to watch the incredibles.....great movie....but I think Kevin didn't like it.....cause hes not cool.....

Squishy... :worship:

I don't have an Iphone & probably won't get one. I do have an IPod (finally) so I will buy the application, in fact I can't wait to buy the application. Thanks for putting it out. Now if I could only find some room at the DVC Inn during the upcoming Dis event, life would be perfect. Then I could use my new Dis Application on my IPod and hear Marty Sklar, all in the same weekend. :goodvibes:thumbsup2:banana:Penny

I do not have an I phone. We looked into purchasing one but the cost of the data plan on top of everything else is just too expensive for our budget at this time. Also we do not think we would get enough use out of it to justify the extra cost. However if I did have an I phone and the app. could help me out and save me time or help me be more efficent with my trip planning it would be worth the 5.99. It would all depend on what it can and can not do. It would all be based on my needs at the time. If it does not fit your needs than don't buy it. 5.99 does not sound like a bad price considering how much people spend on other apps for their computers and such. Also if you can afford the price of the data plan alone each month what is another 5.99 for an app. that is yours to keep with no other monthly expenses to go with it and also if I understand correctly free updates for life. I do not know anything about I phone apps. so I will ask the experts what happens if you get a new I phone can you transfer your apps. over to the new phone or do you lose them? If you would lose them than I could see where people might question the free updates for life thing and have a justifiable complaint. Maybe this app. does cost more than other apps. out there but perhaps this is because it is more involved and not just your basic app. Without seeing the app. you can not know this yet. It is premature to be complaining about the cost of something that you have not even got to see yet.

This is my fantasy land. I've looked for something like this all my life.

This is not a community thrown together by location or forced to be together like high school.

This is a community by choice and to me that's precious.

I've spent a lot of time getting to know the guy who created this website and the original intent was to create a discussion board where folks could discuss Disney. This particular board has ventured further afield and now encompasses many different topics. We've have discussed whether we should limit discussions to just Disney and topics mentioned on the Podcast and we have to come to realize that this board has taken on a life of it's own.
It's become a community. It serves a purpose. It has become the town hall, Main Street, meeting space for a great many people. Trying to focus the discussion to a narrow topic would be a dis-service to those that meet here.

Opinions are not silenced on this board as long as those opinions are given following the policies of the Dis.

There is a discussion of Pete's use of the term "cleaning lady". That thread has been edited once and that was because of the use of the word "stupid" which is against Dis policy. The rest of the thread goes unedited. If you read it.....I dont think you will find anyone trying to be a "cool kid".

Dissenting opinion is welcome as long as it's not an attack. No one here is afraid of a different opinion. I think you'll find many here like a good debate. I'm one of them and I will do everythying in my power to paint you into a corner until you drop to your knees crying "Kevin is right". (Just ask John:love:)

I too apologize for being sarcastic and snarky. It's uncalled for.

Everyone is welcome to join the conversation....agree with us...or not. Your thoughts are welcome.

Just follow the rules.:thumbsup2

At one point in my life I came to the DIS because I needed the information regarding the best restaurants to eat, the best tour plans, etc., etc., etc. Thanks to this website, I no longer need to come to these boards to plan my trips. Yeah, I still get useful information, but I could never come back here and my trips would be great. I now need to come here to see my friends.

We really are a bunch of friends here, aren't we?
