I guess we are now on the Timeshare Mailing List (thanks to DVC)

This week received invites to a new Westin timeshare in Phoenix and a new Hyatt timeshare in San Antonio.

Both offers are for $49 per nite, up to 4 nites, with the agreement to hear the 90 minute salespitch.

They look beautiful, but I just hate salepitches, so we will pass.

Something interesting:

Hyatt's literature says occupancy of a studio is for 2 adults (NO CHILDREN), 1 BR is for 2 adults/2 SMALL children and 2BR is for 2 adults and up to 4 children.

I wonder what they consider SMALL???

Did you purchase resale? I've owned DVC for years and have never had timeshare mailing related to my ownership. I have had a few for the Marriott and Four Seasons that I think came through a golf magazine subscription.

The only time share related offers I have received have been to sell; not offers from other resorts. Maybe it wasn't DVC's fault?

Saw Pam's post and had to addthat I bought re-sale through TTS.

Not resale--we bought through DVC??? I just assumed it was related since we just bought our points in June.

We have stayed at Westin and Hyatt hotels before, so maybe it just comes from that? I just found it odd that both were Timeshare offers.

Mail offers have never bothered me--it's the phone calls that I can't tolerate (which we have not gotten, at least not yet)

JessetheCowgirl,

You can add your name to the national do not call list, which will preclude you from getting sales calls. It takes about three months to process, but if someone calls you within that time frame you simply tell them that you are on the list and to please remove your name.

The only organizations that are exempt from the do not call list I believe are non-profits.

We've never received any type of "other timeshare" mailing when we bought through DVC. Reciently though, we purchased our resale of BWV through Timeshare.com. Over the last several months we've received a letter from another timeshare company asking is we wanted to sell our BWV DVC. I have been told that many of these re-sellers look at the county records for who bought what and when, and snice your home address is apart of the record, they get your name that way.

I don't think DVC shares that info, I could be wrong though. One possiblilty is that the deeds are public record, maybe these companies get there info somehow, when your deed is recorded. We do get things from time to time, I just throw them away, rarely does anyone call me.

These places "mine" the info from the Orange County records. We've been getting a mailing from a Century 21 broker in Texas trying to get us to sell to them since 2001.

We also have never gotten any other notices to buy and maybe only one to sell. Maybe they know we can't afford it ;)

We did purchase thru Disney. Don't know if that makes a difference.

We have bought direct through Disney and from Timeshare Store and have not ever received any invitations for other timeshares. Do you belong to any hotel chain rewards programs? That may be the source.

Banks and other financial institutions are real big on selling information to marketers. If you financed through someone other than Disney, that could be the source of the sudden up swing in timeshare advertising you are getting.

I've owned for a little over a year and haven't received any timeshare mailings to buy or sell.

I don't think DVC would want to share thier owners information. Why would they want the competition? Besides IMO there is DVC, then everything else. :)

It probably is because the transaction is a public record. Much like after you buy a home, it is a record and many home related businesses then market to you.

The only difference is some people may receive TS marketing when others dont because of the varying state laws on how TSs may market to people. Arent there some states you can and cant direct market timeshares out of state?
