Milkshake?

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 (later that morning)

AK must be the HOTTEST park... or at least the park with the least places to go cool off... So after we'd been roaming the outdoors for a while, I promised the kiddos we'd get some drinks.

We went to a counter/kiosk across from Tusker House to get some ice waters for the family. (Tamu Tamu perhaps? :confused3)

I saw "milkshakes" on the menu. :cloud9: I hadn't had a single one yet this trip, and this was my one week off my diet... my tastebuds would have most liked vanilla, but knowing I didn't want the whole thing and my guys would have preferred chocolate, I got a chocolate one, and it looked like this...

IMG_1632a.jpg

Now, normally I don't think of milkshakes as "standing up" quite like this... shouldn't they be a little more liquidy? Still thick, but not this thick. At least that's my opinion. It reminded me, taste-wise & texture-wise, of a Frosty from Wendy's, and Wendy's, rightfully so, does not advertise their Frosties as "milkshakes."

So while the coolness and flavor was satisfying, it did not quite satisfy my desire for a milkshake... :sad2: and I wish I had gotten vanilla... :snooty:

I tried sharing with my family... I really did. Hubby had a few sips/bites (hard to sip unless you focused on the melted part), and Little Guy had one spoonful. Other than that, LG didn't want more, and Big Guy didn't even want a single taste to begin with! And he loves chocolate ice cream! I guess that TH buffet that morning did a good job filling my guys up!

Now, I am no piggy... I am simply used to more frequent smaller meals. If you recall, I had only one plate at breakfast, plus a teeny portion of bread pudding... but while my guys drank their waters to stay cool and hydrated, I downed this entire "Frosty-like" substance! (or at least the 97% that the guys didn't help me with!)

It's not like me to have a mid-morning dessert, especially after I had dessert after breakfast!

Was the "Disney diet" (way of eating, not a way of losing weight) finally working itself out in me?

See what else my family and I end up munching on in AK...

To be continued...

Another here who somehow missed this review!!!! Caught up and gotta say the kids are adorable!:cloud9:

Ha! I got mine at Ross too! (But here in North Carolina) I get most of my clothes there because of the low prices on quality clothing! I love that top!

I've got a few that are the same brand but different colors/patterns. I can accidentally leave them in the dryer overnight and they simply don't wrinkle! Great blouses to pack in a suitcase and not worry about! :thumbsup2

Pizzafari & Flame Tree BBQ

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 (lunch time)

I HAD to have my Flame Tree BBQ ribs (as I LOVE RIBS), but I didn't think my boys would approve of their children's menu. Since we had just happened to be standing next to Pizzafari when trying to make lunch plans, we thought  we'll get the kids pizza! They never argue with that! :goodvibes

So I wiggled my way past a giant Brazilian tourist group :headache: and made my way to the Pizzafari line before they did. Phew! Meanwhile, hubby took the boys for a pitstop and hung around outside the crowded restaurant while waiting for me.

I will say, despite the long line, it ran smoothly!

And despite the fact that the kid's menu only offered cheese pizza, I was able to get pepperoni on it for Little Guy (he LOVES pepperoni). I'm just glad Pizzafari had pizza on the kid's menu... didn't they used to not have pizza as an option for the kiddos? Or am I dreaming that?

Anyhoo, as I'm about to get a tray of two pizzas, two applesauces, two chocolate chip cookies, and two apple juices, I realize that I shouldn't be taking the tray with me if I'm toting this stuff to Flame Tree BBQ! I asked for boxes to go... nope! Didn't have any! Finally, a CM got some foil out, and I managed to put the applesauce and cookie on each plate with the pizza, using the foil to hold it all together so nothing would fall off the plates. And I stuck the apple juices in my arm.

I stayed just like that to meet up with hubby and continued while hubby pushed the stroller. We found a spot in one of the shady areas and hubby and the boys politely waited while Mommy got food for her and Daddy.

I got hubby the pulled pork sandwich with beans and slaw (I believe), and a large Diet Coke, plus a chocolate chip cookie (kiddie menu) for dessert. I, of course, got ribs with beans (blech), chocolate cake, and a large light lemonade. (I was learning! Always get the LARGE beverage on DDP because it's no different than medium price-wise/credit-wise!)

Here's Big Guy with his pizza...

IMG_1672a.jpg

You can get the idea of how small the kid's pizza is... fine for now, but I bet most 9 year olds still go hungry after this one. He gobbled it all up, which I assume means he liked it. :)

Here's hubby thoroughly enjoying his sandwich...

IMG_1673a.jpg

Sorry I couldn't get a better pic, but my guys were hungry and dived right in before I settled myself down... mommies always have to make sure everyone has their napkins, they can get their applesauces open, they've got proper utensils, they can get the straws in their drinks, etc.

But I did get a better shot of my meal...

IMG_1674a.jpg

Very good! Soft ribs! And I added a little BBQ sauce from the fixins bar, though some I ate plain too, and enjoyed every bite! I gave the beans to hubby 'cause I'm simply not a bean person. I expected there to be cornbread with this too, but I didn't get one... maybe I imagined it? :confused3 The chocolate cake was one of these pre-packaged deals, but actually tasted very flavorful! It was moist, and the topping was very fudgy! I even shared a bit with Big Guy who finished his entire meal quite quickly (tiny pizza, remember...) Aren't I a good mommy to share my chocolatey goodness?

And lastly, let me share dinner...

IMG_1678a.jpg

:lmao:

Don't worry, I'm just kidding! This ducky, and a similar pal, spent lunch time with us. Of course, hubby fed them some of his roll, despite the signs that said to not feed the wildlife... Maybe that's why they stuck around?

Now, if you do want to know about our real dinner (which I LOVED), stay tuned for our trip to Sassagoula Floatworks at POFQ.

Yummy I am loving your Dining Report and your Photos! Please tell me how you took such great photos. I have to keep myself from licking my screen.

Please don't lick your screen... I'm sure it will kill your expectations for flavor... :sad2:

I actually keep it kinda simple for these shots. I do have a digital SLR, but I have a small pocket-sized point-and-shoot that will do the same thing... "close up" setting. It looks like a little flower (a tulip, I believe) on most cameras.

Sometimes just doing a little cropping will also help you keep your focus on food, as opposed to straw wrappers or park maps that might be sitting beside your plate.

With the digital SLR, it's easier to focus in on certain foods. Just be careful, you might end up focusing in on some green beans, while the big hunk of juicy steak that you really want to capture is not quite as clear and crisp.

And with all digital cameras, just take several shots if you're unsure, and experiment with different settings, flash/no flash, etc. I filled up a 2 GB photocard just a few days into our trip because of this... so what?! I just backed up everything on a computer and my flash drive, leaving me with an empty 2 GB photocard to fill up once again! :goodvibes

Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory (POFQ Food Court)

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 (evening)

We always finish AK by mid-to-late afternoon, and this time, by the time we were back to Port Orleans, we decided we were just about ready for dinner. I thought I had seen some good options at POFQ, and that was the first stop on our bus route, so that's where we got off.

There really were quite a few options for dinner... both for us as adults, and for the kids!

Big Guy got a grilled cheese sandwich with applesauce and french fries.

IMG_1729a.jpg

Little Guy got chicken nuggets (ended up doing this a lot), with applesauce and grapes (my little fruit boy).

IMG_1730a.jpg

Hubby decided on the philly cheesesteak sandwich. Again, he plowed into it before I could get a decent pic. He had asked for onions only, no peppers. But they mixed it up and gave him peppers only, no onions. :sad2: Well, while he said he wasn't thrilled with it, it still must have been satisfying judging by the way he plowed through it!

IMG_1732.jpg

Hubby got beignets for dessert, as you can see. He had to. He loved them when he went to New Orleans not too long ago. (He took some youth down there to help a woman rebuild her house after Katrina.)

He said while these POFQ beingets weren't as good as the real ones, they were still really tasty. He had a hard time parting with one for our boys to try.

I got ribs. (Yes, I know I just had them for lunch, but I love my ribs!) They were good ribs! Really soft with just the right amount of sauce that made you lick your fingers but didn't drip all over. :goodvibes The ribs came with two sides, and I got mac 'n cheese x2. Sooo good! Like extra buttery Stoffer's. It also came with cornbread. Nice, soft, and warm... I added butter. (My mommy always told me butter makes everything better! ;))

IMG_1731a.jpg

Hubby and I used our drink credits for some milk to keep for the boys' cereal in the morning. We had refillable mugs after all!

I also got the beignets because I had read so much about them. Unfortunately, I didn't think I cared for them very much. Good, but not really good. I expected them to be more donut-like, but they were basically hollow.

I let hubby have one back, given that he had shared one with the boys.

And I let Big Guy have a little fun too...

IMG_1733a.jpg

Yep, that's a bowl of powdered sugar and a spoon... shortly before bedtime... what was I thinking?

I'm afraid I don't have much to report on for Wednesday, conferences mostly. (Though I did have another All-American, no tomatoes, from the Earl of Sandwich... good as last time!)

But for dinner on Wednesday, we did regroup and have fun at the Polynesian...

Stay tuned for my review of 'Ohana!

Hollow? While beignets aren't as dense as a doughnut, they're definitely not supposed to be hollow. There's supposed to be lots of doughy goodness inside. I've never tried the beignets at WDW, so I can't comment on them specifically, but Cafe du Monde is the place to get beignets in New Orleans (as a native New Orleanian, I should know :rotfl:)

So I'm not crazy thinking that these should have had more to them! That's reassuring! :goodvibes

Yeah! I should have taken a pic of one that was bitten into! They were like pillows, filled with air! Hubby liked to just fill the space with extra powdered sugar.

I don't know why he didn't say anything to me about the hollowness being odd!

Cafe du Monde does sound familiar... that very well could have been the place hubby had the good ones he told me about!
