I Got Work to Pay for My DISNEY FEASTS w/PICS! COMPLETED 11/14 - Whispering Canyon

You are going again in 20 days!

I have to wait 116 days!! (and I had to agree to run 13.1 miles!! :rotfl2: well it will help make room for all the food!!)

Love Le Cellier!! The Creme brulee looks perfect..

(tell me, am I the only one that thinks about smuggling in a small bottle of rum for that daiquiri? you know the airport size tiny bottles... :rolleyes1 it does cut the sweetness.... :rolleyes1)

Well, actually now, we're down to two weeks to our next trip! :dance3:

It is hard to wait with triple-digit days, isn't it? So do I assume you're doing the half marathon in WDW? I think it's actually quite brilliant! Speed up that metabolism to burn all the calories you'll consume on the trip! Good luck to you!

The daiquiri was delicious as is! As for your thought to smuggle rum... well, I can't tell you to do anything.

I will tell you a story however... my dbil & his friends went on an overnight field trip in high school... they decided a little food coloring added to a certain beverage in a Scope bottle would be a good idea... let's just say the school put a stop to those overnight trips after that...

I guess that's a tip or a warning, depending on what you read into it...

Actually DSIL, my DH is excited about trying these too :) :) :)

Yay! So did he see the pic of the CCC? (Aren't we glad those words don't start with K even though they have the same sound?)

Thanks for a great update. Enjoying yor reviews. Never tried LeCellier and been trying to read reviews on the restaurant...wondering if its really that good or if its a hype...I decided to give it a try on our Dec trip and I didnt have a problem getting an ADR fot it so I cant wait to try,

I'm in NC too just outside Charlotte

I'm in Charlotte! The eastern side, near the Cabarrus border. Our community was just annexed this June... so yay, we get to pay more taxes... :headache:

At least we're originally from NY, so we know higher taxes here are still better than higher taxes there... ;)

Hello to both of you! I'm about an hour away from you towards the mountains.

Great thread!

Since you love ribs you need to try the ribs at Yak & Yeti at the Animal Kingdom. They are out of this world!!! I'm not a fan of ribs but these won me over. They are outstanding! Since you loved the pot stickers at Ohana you would love them here too. They are just as amazing here! I can't wait for our trip to get back to Y&Y. It is official, Yak & Yeti has become my #1 restaurant.

And you are correct about AK being the warmest park. All the vegetation keeps it warm, like the greenhouse effect.

Hi there, neighbor!

I've never really even considered Yak & Yeti before... sounds like it just might be something to try in the future. Too bad my next trip is already packed with ADRs... and not much we can do in two weeks! But I will need to store that tid bit of info away for a future trip... we're thinking maybe MLK weekend and/or May 2010 next... we'll see!

Thanks for the tip! :goodvibes

You are welcome. We love Yak & Yeti so much that we are going twice next trip. We went twice on our Honemoon last December. We gave up our Le Cellier reservation to go back to Y&Y.

scope in a bottle :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

omg - too funny!!

Guess I'll leave the medicinal bottles at home!! :rotfl:

You gave up Le Cellier?!?! :scared1:

Yikes! Well, I guess you made another set of diners really happy to be able to get a last minute ADR at Le Cellier!

It's not that it was Scope in the bottle... it was that it was a Scope bottle of something else...

Some kids are just too desperate to be cool... though I'd like to see them chugging what "appeared" to be Scope! Can't you see them playing the alphabet game or something, sitting around a Scope bottle! :rotfl:

Yep! That is how much we LOVED Yak & Yeti and how much I loved their ribs. As soon as I cancelled it both the CM and I said that we were going to make someone else VERY happy.

Awww... how nice! :goodvibes

I'd love to see the look on somebody's face when they call up and say "is there ANY ADR in Epcot for dinner this week?" And the CM says, "Well, there is availability at Le Cellier..."
:woohoo: :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:  :worship:

Snackin' at MK... on our last day (for this trip! ;))

Saturday, July 18, 2009

After checking in at Wilderness Lodge (see Trip Report in signature), we took advantage of easy access to Magic Kingdom... nice little boat ride to the front gate.

And we were HUNGRY!

But we had basically used up all our CS meal credits...

We still had snack credits though, so we thought we'd get a healthy snack in Sleepy Hollow... ;)

I got myself one of these:
IMG_2006.jpg

MMMMMMM.... root beer float! But it was dripping all over the place in the heat! The funny thing was that after sipping it and putting it down a few times, the drippage from the ice cream had left this nifty little image on the table...

IMG_2008.jpg

It was completely unintentional! I just picked up the cup and went WHOA! I have to take a picture of that!

The rest of the family shared two of these bad boys...

IMG_2007.jpg

Which I'm sad to report is no longer on the DDP as a snack credit! :sad1: It was in July, at least in MK (not Epcot), but when we went back in Sept, no more funnel cakes for a snack credit! So sad...

I know they're big, but even if they made a smaller funnel cake for a snack credit, I'd still take it! These are good!

See Little Guy enjoying some funnel cake...

IMG_2009.jpg

This is the one issue... funnel cakes are messy with all that powdered sugar! It gets EVERYWHERE! Don't where a black shirt if you eat one of these! :upsidedow

Later in the afternoon, I decided to use up our last snack credit in Tommorowland to try a sweet cream cheese pretzel...

IMG_2037.jpg

Unfortunately my family didn't care for it, so I had to eat the whole thing myself... oh well! I enjoyed it! :) I can't say that it's one of my favorite snacks in the parks, but it is something I might get again.

So this was the end of our snacking in Disney... but there were still 2 adult and 2 child table service credits to use up before midnight. And what better way to use up these table service credits than at Whispering Canyon Cafe, on the night that we were staying at Wilderness Lodge! :thumbsup2

Stay tuned!

I have enjoyed your reviews, they are really good and you have the two cutest little boys almost as cute as my ones :lmao:

Whispering Canyon Cafe

Saturday, July 18, 2009

This was to be a first for us... Whispering Canyon Cafe.

I will say, we didn't mind the wait after check in. They gave us a pager, and I think we may have waited 10 minutes tops, but I got to sit in a comfy chair and the boys got to play with Lincoln Logs.

IMG_2118.jpg

We were seated... and I loved the waitress we had! She was such a good actress!

We started by getting drinks, and the waitress through napkins and straws across our table... as in scattered all over! The kids got such a kick out of it! (Adults too!)

Ok... so drinks themselves are neat since you can have bottomless milkshakes as your drink on the dining plan! Hubby got chocolate, and I got vanilla.

IMG_2120.jpg

Hubby and I both thought the chocolate didn't taste right... so he got a different drink (which I must discuss later). I, on the other hand liked my vanilla shake... not the best shake in the world, but certainly decent. I didn't dare get any refills though for fear of getting sick (I have a mild lactose intolerance... I can handle some dairy, but I can't go overboard.)

Next, we got our cornbread and salad.

IMG_2121.jpg

Decent salad, but nothing I want to fill myself up with when I knew the good stuff was yet to come.

Good cornbread too. Big pieces! Very cakey... not at all dry... more on the sweet side than not.

Then hubby got his diet coke... which he drank practically by the time the waitress turned her back after delivering it.

So she immediately got him a refill, and slammed the jug on the table...

IMG_2123.jpg

Hubby's words: "This is my Everest!"

Hubby likes to drink soda... well drink anything really... and he drinks A LOT! He drinks enough that someone who worked in a diabetes clinic thought he should be tested. (Apparently drinking a lot is a sign of diabetes.) He did get tested, and no, he's in the safe zone. He just likes drinking! (And it's generally non-alcoholic drinks... so we don't have a problem there either. ;))

He was determined to finish it... the waitress gave him firm directions to the bathroom though. She made it perfectly clear that she didn't want to be cleaning any puddles off the floor under his seat. She even said he could hop over some chairs if it would help him get to the bathroom quicker. :rotfl:

Anyway... more about the jug o' diet coke later...

The kids had chicken and pasta... only Little Guy didn't eat the pasta... Big Guy did. I apparently didn't get a picture, but the pasta was an insanely small side dish here. We ordered the chicken and pasta at Les Chefs and the pasta itself was a huge meal. Not here. Oh yeah, and the chicken here was grilled strips, not chicken fingers.

With grilled chicken however, in our family, it doesn't get consumed as easily, unless we have a certain condiment... ;)

IMG_2125.jpg

:rotfl2:

I loved the presentation! We all did!

Now for the good stuff... I am a carnivore, so the bottomless skillet was the ONLY option we considered...

IMG_2126.jpg

:lovestruc

Eat meat to your heart's content! It had BBQ ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken...yummmmmm! :cloud9:

It also had corn, potatoes, and beans...

No beans for us... but the corn was scrumdidalyumptious! And the potatoes were really good too!

We asked for seconds on the ribs and pork... those were our favorites!

Back to hubby's Everest...

Let's just say he could see the whole world from where he was standing!

IMG_2127.jpg

He downed the WHOLE THING!

The waitress came over with this angry/nervous look... "I didn't see you get up to use the restroom yet..."

Hubby played along... he held his head low, and replied, "I didn't make it... there's just a ... slight... little... puddle on the floor... over here..."

That waitress's expression turned to poor anger, and she stood there staring at hubby without cracking a smile, while the rest of us (and some neighboring tables) were just cracking up! :lmao:

Anyway... moving right along... a few members of the family had to go potty, and we were all really full, so we had the waitress pack up our desserts to go. I waited for them while hubby took the boys back to our room to go potty... wasn't that convenient to have our room just down the hall from the restaurant?!

So here are our packed up desserts... which became our breakfast the next morning. :goodvibes

The boys got chocolate chip cookies... nice size, and two each...

IMG_2131.jpg

Hubby got the chocolate cake...

IMG_2130.jpg

I got the s'more cheesecake...

IMG_2129.jpg

I didn't taste the cookies, but the boys gobbled them up... I take that as a thumbs up! :thumbsup2

Hubby's cake I did taste... ooooh.... soooo chocolatey! He doesn't like too much frosting, so I had to help him with that. ;)

My cheesecake was actually mostly cheesecake... the s'more part is the graham cracker crust, which is thin, and the chocolate and marshmellows were on top. Interesting concept... but really, the majority of the dessert was more about cheesecake than s'mores. It does make a fabulous breakfast though... regardless! :goodvibes

So that was our final dinner... and final breakfast...

Then we hit the road... and after that fabulous Disney food, I don't even remember what we ate on the road!

So that finishes off my reviews for this trip!

But... I am yet to post reviews for our Sept/Oct Free Dining trip with my brother, sister-in-law, & nephew, ... and my mother... since it was her (Grandmom's) birthday that we decided to celebrate!

So watch for future reports...

Not to mention there will be more after that... as my mother had the brilliant idea of planning a just-before-Christmas trip this year! Sometimes, she comes up with good ideas! :goodvibes

So... see ya real soon! :mickeyjum

Loved all of your reviews, and the pics were just awesome. We are going in Feb and have ADR's at Le Cellier, Sci Fi, O'Hana, and Whispering Canyon. All of the food looks delicious.

I am back from my "sorta-solo" trip - and I wanted to report back that I did track down the carrot cake cookie at the Studios. I was totally unaware of the fact that my husband does like carrot cake :confused3 I got one to take back to the room. I snacked on it a couple times then took the last of it with us (about a fourth was left by then) on our last day. I don't know if I will get one in December since we are only there for 3 nights and will be with another couple. When we are with them we tend to eat bigger meals, so I probably wouldn't be hungry enough to eat it - but I can guarantee I will be getting at least one more next June when we are there.
