I Found the Funnel Cake, but Where is the Chocolate Covered Pineapple? Updated 10/21

Thanks for the transportation advice! It's definitely on my list of places to try in the future. Maybe we could do dinner there on our next trip and make a night of it with the campfire at Ft. Wilderness. That sounds like it would completely be worth it, along with the cost savings as you pointed out.

You're welcome! I will give a small spoiler here--- we went there for dinner this trip as well! I will say I think it's worth it.

That breakfast buffet does look awesome!! We were going to do Trail's End for dinner this trip but ended up making a reservation for HDDR, and I've read that the food is similar so I scrapped the TE dinner. We'll have a car, so maybe we'll venture over for breakfast one morning ;) You said the restaurant was only about half full, and I think I've also read you don't necessarily need a reservation there :thumbsup2

We did go for dinner and it is similar foods as the two restaurants share 1 kitchen. I know when we were there for breakfast and dinner they were accepting walk ups!

Now that is a good spoiler!! I can't wait to read about it! :)

Thanks for confirming:thumbsup2

After our breakfast at Trail’s end, we headed for our first day at the parks in Magic Kingdom. After doing some rides and such, we were hot. Since we were in the new Fantasyland, we started to look around to find some good, cold snacks. We looked into Gaston’s Tavern and were completely underwhelmed. We had no interest in trying the Le Bou brew, so we left there and went to Prince Eric’s Village Market Snacks. We wanted something cold so we opted for 2 Frozen lemonades for DD and DH, and 2 Cherry Shaved Ice for Me and DS. These hit the spot just like we were hoping for it to. The total cost was $17.00. Sorry no pictures, we just wanted to get that frozen goodness into our overheating cores!

Now onto what you really came here for… Dinner at Be Our Guest.
We wanted to try this as we had heard so many reports on it. Mind you, they were conflicting reports. Some were great, some good, and a few horrible reviews. I was hoping that we would have a great time. This was on our list since we have eaten at every other table service in MK with the exception of The Plaza. Be Our Guest looked like it had some good menu choices for our party. Our reservation time was for 5:35pm. Right as I was checking in it started to drizzle. We were told to wait on the bridge and our buzzer would go off when our table was ready. Within 3 minutes of that, they had everyone waiting on the bridge taken inside to wait in the “lobby” since it was raining. We waited in the area with the suits of armor.

100_8651_zpsac650a40.jpg

Then within about another 4 minutes our buzzer went off. We were given the small tour of where the royal thrones (read that bathrooms) are housed and an explanation of the rooms available.

100_8642_zpsd55dbe86.jpg

We were seated in the grand ballroom, right off the center of the room.

After some looking over the menus again, we did something completely out of the norm for us. We all opted for the exact same meals. We all got Coke as our beverage of choice and then we all got the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops
with Seasonal Vegetables and Mushrooms served in Puff Pastry with a Creamy Lobster Sauce

100_8633_zps0b4334c1.jpg

This was light, airy, beautifully presented and delicious. The shrimp and scallops were both cooked perfectly. Our only negative was that some of us would have liked a bit more Lobster sauce to go on it to make the puff pastry a little less dry. It was good, we just wanted it to be a little more wet than it was. (we like our gravy/sauce) :lmao: :rotfl2: All in all there was not much left on any of our plates when we were finished. We were not presented with the dessert cart but that could be because we knew what we wanted. We did see the cart go to the table next to ours. For our choices, we decided to split 2 cupcakes. We went with the strawberry and the triple chocolate. The strawberry was fresh and super light and moist.

100_8639_zpsd1b6a551.jpg

The chocolate was super dense but flavorful and moist as well.

100_8638_zpsecc5f778.jpg

They were both delicious in totally different ways. Then, because DD and I were celebrating our birthdays, we were brought out 2 plates with candles of the gray stuff.

100_8635_zpsdb14de33.jpg

I will tell you that the plates didn’t lie, it is delicious! I am not a fan of cookies and cream flavor, but this was such a small amount of that flavor that it was enough to give a hint of it, without being completely overwhelming. For myself, I don’t know that I would order a whole dessert with the gray stuff on it, but for a small taste (that we shared with DS and DH) it was good and just enough for me. Our server was Courtney and she was the sweetest thing. She was what a server should be. She was there when we needed her, brought us refills without having to be asked and checked in enough to know we were enjoying our meal without hovering over us. She chatted with us and listened to our stories with a smile. She was worth every penny we tipped her. We give this a 4.5 out of 5. I would love to try something else on the menu but that meal I had was good and I am a creature of habit! It will definitely make it on our try again list. I am not so sure about lunch though, that is still one that has to be discussed. Our total was $136.64 + tip.

Here are a few more pictures of the restaurant.

Up next is July 21st Hollywood Studios and Lunch at 50's Prime Time Cafe

Wow what a great meal. I've been wanting to try the dish you all for but it has mushrooms which are the one and only thing I won't eat. Our two experiences at BoG were just ok, but good reviews like yours may bring us back for dinner. For now we keep sticking to lunch though.

Looking forward to more.

Yay for BOG!! I had the same entree as you, and I loved each and every bite, and I ate the whole thing! It was fantastic. DH had the rack of lamb and he loved it. DS9 had the kids' steak, his favorite food, and DS7 had the macaroni and cheese and enjoyed it as well. DH and I shared the charcuterie board for an appetizer and it was very tasty. The kids and I all had the grey stuff dessert (in a delicious chocolate cookie crust) and DH had the lemon meringue cupcake. Desserts were also loved by all! Atmosphere was beautiful, service was wonderful. It was worth the trek back to MK in a downpour to go there for dinner.

It's funny because at first when we had to wait in that same area you did inside, I hated it. It was so crowded and I said to DH, this isn't even worth it...never again. A one time thing just to say we did it and to see the inside of the castle. But then my opinion magically changed by the dinner experience. I look forward to dining there again, the hassle was completely worth it for sure! :)

Oh and, DH and I enjoyed being able to have wine for me and beer for him with dinner at MK! First time we've ever done that, as it was the first time ever at BOG!

Kari, it was delicious and it really only had 1 or maybe 2 mushrooms in the whole thing. I am the opposite of you, I would rather stick to dinner and am scared to try lunch with it being counter service.

I really loved this entrée! The veggies still had some bite and weren't completely mushy and all the flavors worked really well together. I would get it again, or maybe if I push myself, I might try something new. It was a little crowded in there with everyone squeezed in, but we got our table so quickly that we didn't have time to dwell on it.

Subscribing to your thread! Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip. :cool1:

:welcome: to the thread! Glad to have you along. Hope you enjoy the rest of it, and we have 50's up next for your viewing pleasure!
:rotfl2: :lmao:

So glad you enjoyed BOG dinner! We've had dinner there 4x and LOVE it, so I'm always happy to hear when someone else enjoys their dinner, too. We did have lunch there once and while it wasn't "bad", we totally prefer dinner :)

I feel like lunch would be chaotic, being a CS and so popular. If lunch was TS I would definitely try it!

Wow! I'm so far behind and I've only finally joined!

Your kids have grown so much since last time I saw them two years ago. Goodness time flies! :)

So about that food... 'Ohana - I'm happy with the bread at the beginning of the meal and the bread pudding at the end of the meal. Everything else in between is just ok. That salad you were served was interesting... :)

Trails End fascinates me. I love the yogurt parfaits in the jars - very clever.

Be Our Guest - gotta love the strawberry cupcake! I've had a hard time finding something that I love on the menu. ;) Hoping to go back and try it a 4th time.

Bonnie, I think you hit the nail on the head for me! I think that is what is holding me back from going to BOG at lunch. I like knowing that I have a reservation and being shown to my table not finding one.

:welcome: Brenda!!! Glad you found your way over to my review. I still love the pot stickers at Ohana and the dessert.
You HAVE to try Trail's End. They have some really good food there. Country fare done Disney style!
BOG- I really loved both the cupcakes and I was super impressed with our entrée. It was well seasoned, flavorful and perfectly cooked!

This is exactly why we prefer TS meals in general. The only CS we really do is snacking, and the Boardwalk Bakery and Boardwalk To Go, to bring lunch to the room (convenience, and we love the food!).

So glad you all enjoyed TE! Too bad that you didn't enjoy the pulled pork eggs benedict. That's okay. More for me. I'll have to grab a few donut holes next time. They look yummy. Great buffet pics too!

Happy to hear that you enjoyed BOG as well. I didn't care for my lunch there at all last year, but dinner looks much more promising. I would have ordered the seafood puff pastry as well. It looks phenomenal!

Can't wait to read your 50s PT review! We keep going back and forth on that reservation, so maybe your review will help me decide. :thumbsup2

Jeri, you can have those eggs benedict but we will have to find a way to share the donut holes! :rotfl2::lmao: Dinner at BOG was phenomenal. I would go back again tomorrow if I could. And you know that entrée was devine since the 4 of us with all different likes/dislikes absolutely LOVED it and cleaned our plates! I will be doing 50's review this weekend!

Loved your Ohana review!

:welcome: and Thank you! Glad you liked it. Hope you stick around for the rest of the reviews.

50’S Prime Time Café

So, as I have said before, we (read that I) are creatures of habit. To date, 50’s is my favorite comfort food place to eat. I love the kitschy decorations they have and I love the food they serve, and when I can get it, I like some of the antics that they provide here. When we were here 2 years ago, we had a bad service meal. Our server was just down right mean, no antics and only begrudgingly did her job for us. Not sure why, but that is what we got. :confused3 So this time back, we were a bit on edge as to what we would get. I am always a bit concerned about this place and the “fun” that can be had because of our DS who is on the spectrum. I am never sure if he will be ok with a “full on” antics server or if he will have a meltdown. The food always wins out for us, so we go back, again and again. Now that my DH is open to signatures though, this may be our last time for a bit since we would probably check out Hollywood Brown Derby next time.

So, here is the view of some lovely decorations next to our table. We were in a half bench, half chair table.

100_8657_zps5c4eda84.jpg

100_8656_zps8e82eb7e.jpg

There was a tv to my left and at the table across the aisle from me but none at our table. We had a very sweet server named Becky. The only thing in terms of antics she did was to tell DH to get his elbows off the table. We decided before we got there that we would get 2 flavored sodas to share and 2 milkshakes to share. What did we get? We just had to get the PB&J shake. I love peanut butter and I can take or leave jelly. This was mostly shared by DS and myself, with DH trying a few spoonful’s. This one was decidedly 99% peanut butter and if there was any jelly in it, there was so little of it we couldn’t taste it, and we were completely ok with that!

100_8659_zps90275cef.jpg

DD and DH shared the biggest portion of the Chocolate shake. I had a few spoonful’s of it and it tasted cold and good.

100_8660_zpsbd701522.jpg

Now, I love me some syrup in my soda! So, since I am a Pepsi-cola fan (please no haters) and not a Coca-cola fan, I love syrup in my soda to make it taste good. So DH got a Vanilla Coke and I got a Cherry Coke. YUM!!!

100_8655_zpsd8140a6b.jpg

Since our reservation was right near opening time we opted not to do appetizers with our shakes and meals. We wanted to have enough food but not so that we would be in a food coma or need to be rolled out the doors. In the July heat, we tend not to eat as much anyway, but my DD and DS could eat those cupboards bare!

So for the entrees,
DS got the Cousin Barry's Olive Oil-poached Salmon
Mushroom Ragoût, Bacon, and Swiss Chard on Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes

100_8663_zpsfd654b30.jpg

He loved the salmon and it was moist and delicious. He ate the mashed potatoes and liked them well enough, but he wouldn’t touch the swiss chard or the mushroom ragout. He loves mushrooms, but something about this tasted off, even to me. But between the potatoes and salmon there was enough for him to feel full.

DH went with the Grandma's Chicken Pot Pie
A creamy Cheese mixture of Chicken, Mushrooms, Carrots, Celery, Onions, and Peas topped with a flaky Pastry

100_8664_zps5f4ade31.jpg

With the exception of the onions, he totally loved this dish. On our last trip, DD had gotten this dish and we all tried it. DH remembered it and thought he should get it this time. His memory served him well and the flavors were still the same. He says he made the right choice.

That leaves me and DD. We again got the same meal. We got the Mom's Old-fashioned Pot Roast
Slow-cooked ‘til fork tender served with Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Brown Gravy, Carrots, Celery, and Onions

100_8662_zpsaea2ea52.jpg

I love this meal! It is so consistently good every time I get it. I love that the veggies (not too many of them) are still slightly crunchy and not all soggy. I love the potatoes and how creamy they are, and the meat just melts in my mouth. It just falls apart with my fork and is full of flavor. My only negative is that there is NEVER enough gravy! I love to smother my meat and potatoes with gravy. I know many people would say that this masks the flavor, but I don’t care. If you have a well-made gravy, it can enhance the flavors of the components, in my opinion. In any event, I love this meal and so does DD.
DD and DH cleaned their plates of all food, and DS left behind the foods he didn’t like and I left a bit of potatoes behind, as I was now full. Our server brought out a birthday cupcake for my birthday. We all tried a bit of it just to taste and so as not to look rude. It was moist and good, but we just don’t know what flavor it was. ??? We were confused but thankful that my birthday got an acknowledgement.

100_8665_zps7cec5936.jpg

So, all in all, we still love our consistent mainstay restaurant. We know that our types of food are served and done well. We rarely try new things when we are here, but have never had a bad meal. We have never had a server that has gone all out with the antics and I am still not sure if I really want that. It is fun to watch others have it done to them, but not sure if I want it done to me. In the end, we had a server who took care of us well, got everything right and our food was delicious. We would go back again because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? It’s not broken folks! We give it a 4 out of 5. It may not make the list next trip if DH is still good with trying signatures. Our meal cost $103.44 + tip

Up next is supposed to be Fast Food at Hollywood Studios…Stay tuned for what happened with that! :rolleyes1

What a great visit to 50's. That salmon is not anything that probably would have caught my eye from the menu but it looks great. And the pot roast, mmm. Glad to hear the service improved too.

50s is always nostalgic to me. Not just because it looks like my grandmas house did, but because it was the only table service we got to eat it when I was a kid. Many, many, many years later I love that almost nothing has changed.

I agree that the salmon looks great! Headed there for the first time next trip and looking forward to it after your review.
