I Found the Funnel Cake, but Where is the Chocolate Covered Pineapple? Updated 10/21

Hey Karla! Thanks for the shout out! :thumbsup2

I'm so excited to read all about your trip. I have 'Ohana booked for September, so I'm curious to see your review.

Your travel day stops sound good. We never plan our out, but we probably should because that's how I end up eating a nasty McDonald's breakfast sandwich.

Can't wait to read more!

Hi there :wave2: joining in! I have to comment on Zaxby's! I'm from NY but my parents moved down to Ga. for a few years back in 1992. They had a Zaxby's by them which *kind of* made up for the lack of good bagels and pizza lol! I fell in love with their chicken salad and Texas toast and got it a couple times each time I visited............ah, good memory:goodvibes

Looking forward to reading more!

:welcome: Happy to have you joining in! I liked the food, and I would get it again from Zaxby's, but for me it wasn't over the moon, it was good fast food.

:welcome: Jeri! So happy you found my thread. I plan all our Disney portions with input from everyone involved. That way they aren't eating or riding anything they had no say in. It seems to work well for us. My DH was the one who took it to the next level and planned out the travel days. He even printed directions from house to lunch, then lunch to hotel. Then the next day from hotel to lunch, then lunch to POR. He likes his part and I like mine.

You had a definite impact on our choice of meals, therefore the shout out! Hope you stay tuned to see where your input happened. Oh and that nasty McDonalds breakfast sandwich, I had one, and thankfully it only had a little sauce on it. But that is for later.

O’hana

Our first meal on Disney property for this trip was to be O’hana. We were so looking forward to this meal as we all love this place. This was our third time eating there. We loved most things about this meal. Certain things about this meal have us over the moon. I am the biggest fan of the pot stickers! The boys are in love with just about anything on a skewer! :lmao: Paige has finally come around to liking shrimp and was excited to try some here. We knew we were about to spend a huge amount on this meal but we have always thought it was worth it, right? :confused3

Now, let it be known that I have allergies, not so normal allergies. When the reservations were made, it was noted on them. I even called the dining line and checked and multiple CM’s said they saw allergy warnings on all the reservations under my name. So when we checked in we were checked in by someone “earning his ears” and he was pleasant. He said the allergies were on the reservation. So when Cousin Chris came to our table I assumed that he would get a chef to come to the table. That was the most that happened with my allergy awareness here. So, the drinks come out and I mention the allergies and nothing happened, no checking, no chef, nothing. I thought it was odd, but I figured since they are weird allergies and no one talked to me that it meant that nothing I was allergic to was being served. Since we had been there before, I knew that unless they changed food, or the way they prepare it, I was ok. Fast forward to our first bit of food being served, the Lettuce wraps! Wait, what??? :confused3 Where is the salad that I don’t touch? I at least knew that was safe to touch if I wanted to, which I never did. But here is the new thing on the menu, lettuce wraps, and no chef to say if it was safe or not, so I didn’t touch it. DH tried it and said that it was bland and boring. No one else at the table even went near it. Basically we were waiting for all the good stuff.

I forgot about the bread. It was good, warm, soft and slightly sweet. We enjoyed it, but not 2 loaves for the 4 of us!

100_8379_zps0da8d879.jpg

Next we had the pot stickers. This is why I go to this restaurant. Set a few plates of these heavenly items in front of me and I will be good to go! YUM! But an odd thing happened when I asked for another plate of them, the server, not Cousin Chris, the other CM, he looked at me like I had 2 heads. Yes, I want more of these heavenly half-moon shaped bits of God-inspired goodness. Give them to me, and so he did.

100_8380_zps0a1f2e87.jpg

Next we got the skillet of noodles, vegetables, and chicken wings. We usually only eat the wings off of this tray, and this time we actually only ate 2 wings. They were eaten by DH, but he loved them. DD, who normally would eat the heck out of them, stayed away this time opting for the skewers this time. DS and I don’t like meat on the bone. So unless that is all there is to eat, we opt out.

100_8391_zps5dfed5af.jpg

Next up were the skewers. Our first was shrimp. On our last visit, the shrimp were very spice, at least for my taste they were. I thought I would get a serving of them and if I didn’t like them, I could always give them to our roving garbage disposal, um, I mean our DS. I loved them, and so did everyone else at the table. These were perfectly cooked; juicy, just right goodness.

100_8383_zps3d81fd8c.jpg

Next we were served the steak. We were each given 3 or 4 good sized chunks of meaty goodness. These were very tender and mine were cooked to a nice medium, DH’s were a nice medium rare, which he likes. The kids had medium to just under medium well, which is their preferred temperature. If I wasn’t so full already, I would have eaten all 4 of these pieces, but I gave my leftovers to my DH and he gladly ate them.

100_8386_zps090222f4.jpg

Then they presented the pork. I am not the biggest fan of the marinade that they use, whatever it is. This plus the char that accompanied my lone piece of meat left me not wanting any of it. I do understand that cooking over an open fire will get a little char, but when it has a huge layer, that is something that shouldn’t be served, in my opinion. That went uneaten on my plate. DD didn’t like the flavor profile on this piece of meat either.

So, with our bellies about to burst from our carnivorous feast arrives the coup de grace, the thin mint, the epic finale, the bread pudding dessert! This comes out with what looks like it’s very own spotlight, as it should. I knew that if I had even 2 or 3 spoonful’s of this yummy goodness, I might burst right there in my seat, but I was willing to risk it. It was worth the risk, so worth it. Warm, sweet, soft yummy goodness mixed with just enough cold vanilla ice cream to offset it. I think I just drooled on my seat here, yikes! DD only ate the ice cream and the cupcake that was given to me for my birthday, and she was very happy.

100_8394_zps57eb9b1a.jpg

DS didn’t even want to try it because it had bananas in it. We convinced him to try it and promise to not give him any bits of banana in it, he liked it well enough. DH, well he tried to finish it off, but failed.

100_8393_zps10c861d9.jpg

Here are a few other pictures, 2 of DD showing off the flames and meat and one of the bread counter.

So, bloated and satisfied, we rolled out of the restaurant and down the steps to our car. While this has been on our must do list for our last 3 visits, something about this visit was different. Maybe it was a “been there, done that” kind of thing, maybe they changed some of their recipes, or maybe it was that I am older and my tastes have changed. I think that I can give this a pass next trip. The expense and the lack of over the moon feelings I got this time have me thinking there is an open spot on my next dining card to the World! We still give it a 3.5 alligators. Maybe someday we will go back, just not next time, especially for the cost.
If we had been on the dining plan, it would have cost us 4 credits. Not being on the dining plan, we dug deep into our pockets and paid $161.84 including tax but plus tip, which is $40.46/person. That is slightly high for my tiny wallet.

It seems like the reviews for O'Hana have been going downhill lately. Everyone is missing the salad and underwhelmed by the lettuce wraps. We were there in May, and they offered the salad and lettuce wraps. We hardly touched the wraps, they had no taste whatsoever. Also, I got the same look from our server when I asked for more potstickers. He had a look on his face like "really"? I agree that close to $200 for that meal is high. I'd rather spend that in Flying Fish or California Grill.

:welcome: to my review, glad to have you here. My DH wasn't a fan of the lettuce wrap and none of us really ever ate the salad. I honestly don't think the quality has gone down, but for the money and an all you care to eat place, if I ask for more of something that isn't on a skewer, you should happily give it to me, imho! We still like it, but maybe with wanting to try all kinds of new places that we have never eaten, and with kids who want to try new things, 3 times is enough to say "ok, on to somewhere new" Honestly, the wraps were the only really downer of the meal, except for my pork (which I only tried to see if it had changed since our last visit- it didn't, still don't like the flavor).

Hope you stick around for the rest of the reviews.

We went to Ohana for dinner once, on our 2012 trip. While we enjoyed it, we thought it wasn't worth the price tag and DH and I both like Kona Cafe much better so it is our restaurant of choice at the Poly. (we also ate dinner at Kona on that same trip, as well as breakfast)

I did enjoy the pot stickers at Ohana, same as you do. We liked the bread pudding dessert when we were there, but at the same time we were underwhelmed by it and by the restaurant itself. It probably had at least a little something to do with the fact that at the time, I had been reading so many outstanding reviews about it for 5 years! So I probably went in with very high expectations. Same thing happened to us in 2010 with Le Cellier. It was ok, but not spectacular to us.

Looking forward to reading more of your reviews! Oh how I miss WDW and am so happy to be in the early planning stages of Disneyland and Southern California for next July...and going to Dutch wonderland in a couple of weeks in Pennsylvania which means I get to enjoy a Dole Whip, which I always miss so much and savor at MK! :)

:welcome: to my review, Bonnie! So glad you made it over. On our last trip we did Yachtsman then Le Cellier. That was a mistake. The steak at LC was good but underwhelming since we had THE BEST one at Yachtsman. Ohana we liked and it really suits the boys in the family since they can have as much meat as they want. But the price tag is hard to take, especially if you are on a budget.

Hi! I'm looking forward to reading more of your reviews! Anything to relive our WDW trips right? ;)

It's funny you mentioned Yachtsman. After our experience at Le Cellier in 2010 being underwhelming, we decided to try Yachtsman in 2012 for steak. It was fantastic! We all loved it there. We didn't return there this year but maybe on the next trip. This time, we tried Flying Fish and Jiko and love both very much. The filet mignon at Jiko was amazing. And DS9 had his steak at Be Our Guest for dinner and he enjoyed it very much. Steak is one of his favorite foods. In fact, he has a friend over and I'm making it for dinner tonight! :)

Thanks for the Ohana review! After two year hiatus we're returning in December, this will be my father-in-law's first time there and I can't wait to treat him :)

YUM, steak! We are definitely carnivores in this household. We love other stuff, but if we can get steak, it is usually our top choice (if we aren't in a seafood place).

:welcome: the my review! Glad to have you along. I honestly like Ohana, it's just that the price tag gets me a bit. I think it is something that should be done by everyone at least once, if they can. I am at the point where I want to do more signature dining, and since my DH is on board with this now (he used to want to get the most for his money and eat often), I want to try all the ones I have been missing out on all these years. :rotfl2:

Hope you stay with me for the rest of the report.

Just found your thread and subbing in.

Looks like you are off to a good start. Good choice with Krystal burger. We don't have one either and I always looks for an opportunity to find one.

Definitely seeks like ohana has been going down as of late. We typically don't do ADRs more than a few hours in advance, so ohana doesn't come up often. Think we may try and hit up Kona next trip as I've read the wings and pot stickers are the same. Think I'd rather eat a selection of items of my own choosing vice a preset menu.

:welcome: Kari, So glad you found my report! We liked it well enough at Ohana, but like I've said before, the price just hit hard this time. We like to do 1- 3 buffets during our visit to Disney. This one will just now be off our rotation. You will have to keep tuned in to see how our Kona visit went. We ALWAYS do ADR's for all our table service because we are always there during some busier times of year and don't want to miss out on what we really are wanting to eat. Plus with our DS, who is on the spectrum, it helps if he knows where we are eating ahead of time and what he is possibly getting to eat. It makes our day a whole lot less stressful if we can say exactly when we are eating and where and sometimes what we are eating! Works for us. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but for us it does!

Loving your report Karla! Glad I found it! We are on the fence with Ohana for our February trip. I made 2 ressies that night because we haven't decided if it is worth a repeat visit or we should go somewhere else.

Looking forward to the rest of your installments!

:welcome: so happy you found the report! As for doing a repeat Ohana or your other ressie, I would say if the other one is new, give it a try. I am now all about giving new places a try on our next trip. There are maybe 3 from this trip that we will absolutely do next trip, they are Trail's end (not sure if we will do breakfast or dinner, we ate at both this trip), Teppan Edo (a must, our whole family loves this) and Via Napoli. But more on those meals further into my report, so stay tuned.

I am now all about giving new places a try on our next trip.

I have made it a point on our last 3 trips to try a few new restaurants along w/ old favorites and decided to do it on every future trip. I want to get that Disney "golden spoon" lol! So after I made all our ADR's for our upcoming trip, I checked how many new places we're eating at - ONE!! Nice job I did there :rotfl: I guess we have too many favorites now, as before booking new ones this time I made reservations at our faves from the last trip!

Well, that will be my #1 goal for our next trip. Never too early to start planning;)

Looking forward to reading the rest of your dining reviews!

I know what you mean about getting in one new place on the list. lol We always write a list of where we might like to eat, then check out the menus and go from there. But, now that DH is open to signatures and kids are more adventurous eaters, there are more places open to us. The good thing is with that many favorites, you are bound to have mostly good meals wherever you go!

We do the same thing! We make sure to try some new places on each trip, but we do have some favorites we don't give up, like Kona Cafe (both breakfast and dinner), Crystal Palace breakfast, Biergarten dinner, San Angel Inn lunch, and Chefs de France lunch. Kouzzina dinner used to be on that list too, oh well. Good thing we stay 10 nights and can try lots of restaurants! We also do mostly table service, so that also allows us to try lots of places.

We ar trying a few new and a few old we like - we love CP and Akershus (DD likes the characters too) so we are doing those again. But we are trying the H&V bfast since she secretly wants to meet Sophia and Doc McStuffins (but would kill me if she knew I publicly told someone :rotfl2:). Also trying Tusker House and BOG dnner. We may end up ditching Ohana for 50s Prime Tine instead - also considering the possibilty of the Wave for a change of pace.

We loved the H&V breakfast a couple of weeks ago! They had the same puffed french toast there just like at the Crystal Palace breakfast! It was so nice to have that twice on our vacation. The characters are awesome at H&V too. We also enjoyed BOG dinner very much. While it was a little chaotic checking in and waiting for our table to be ready (about 15 minutes, so not too long), once we sat down and had a great dinner it was worth the hassle of waiting in a very crowded area and also traveling back to MK from BWV in a downpour. We will most likely return to the BOG dinner on our next trip. The food was delicious and the boys loved it there too!

LOL! We are going back to CP after about 4 years at the request of DS8. He claims its because he loved the food, but I'm 99% sure it's the characters and he just doesn't want to admit that for fear of teasing by DS12:tigger:pooh:
And FYI, Tusker House and BOG are two or our faves! Skipped TH in Feb. and also are skipping it in 2 weeks but will definitely go next year. Have had dinner at BOG 4x, including twice in Feb. DS8's favorite steak in all of WDW lol!!! Haven't had a bad meal or service there yet so hope you enjoy:goodvibes
