I Found the Funnel Cake, but Where is the Chocolate Covered Pineapple? Updated 10/21

What a great visit to 50's. That salmon is not anything that probably would have caught my eye from the menu but it looks great. And the pot roast, mmm. Glad to hear the service improved too.

50s is always nostalgic to me. Not just because it looks like my grandmas house did, but because it was the only table service we got to eat it when I was a kid. Many, many, many years later I love that almost nothing has changed.

It looked awesome and he really loved it. I do love how 50's looks like my gmoms kitchen. Don't even get me started on the pot roast, YUM!!!

I agree that the salmon looks great! Headed there for the first time next trip and looking forward to it after your review.

:welcome: to the thread. That salmon was perfectly cooked! We have had the chicken and it is fabulous, pot roast- super yum, pot pie- devine, salmon- superb. All good comfort items on this menu. And the shakes are so huge and yummy!

Hi Karla, I'm Karla!!! I'm really enjoying your dining pictures and love your reviews and rating system.

We drive from Texas and I always feel the same way about road food. Find me something cheap that will fill me up but not so much that I feel too weighed down in the car!!!

Looking forward to reading more!! I'm so impressed at all. Of the foods your children eat!! My grandmunchkins who are 6 and 9 are as picky as the day is long!!

Your 50s meal looks yummy! We had that booked for our HS day this trip, but Rob has been hesitant to try it and he ended up backing out and wanted me to switch it for HBD. Since we had Trail's End dinner booked for that night I gave in. Thought it might be too much comfort food for one day. Hopefully I'll get there next time. The chicken pot pie looks yummy. That with a chocolate shake sounds like heaven right now. Glad you had a better server experience this time.

Riverside Mill Food Court

Sorry for the delay with this report! The start of the school year is always one of major adjustment for me and this year has been no exception. We have 12 kids on our caseload and 4 are freshman and new to our school. In addition to that, my DS is a freshman at the same school and I have to deal with that adjustment. Not going as smoothly as I would have liked in all areas. I will say that this will be an interesting year! :sad2:

So, I left of on our Hollywood Studios day. We had left 50’s and were doing our family thing and were getting ready to figure out our evening. Our original plan was to eat fast food items at Catalina Eddies and such, but in rolled the rain. When I say rain, I mean deluge. This was no ordinary Florida afternoon rain shower! We were in a conundrum, what do we do? I was supposed to meet another Diser at the late Fantasmic Show. UGH!!!

Well, none of us felt like dealing in the rain, and it’s not like this is our only visit to Disney World, so back to the resort we go. Decision made! By the time we got back, we were a bit hungry so we opted for the counter service at our resort, Riverside Mill Food Court. There were a lot of choices and once we looked them over carefully we made our selections. (I apologize for the quality of the pictures as they were taken on my only moderately smart phone.)

My DS went with the Chili-Cheese Hot Dog with choice of Coleslaw or French Fries (he got fries)

He really liked this option but I knew it wasn’t going to be nearly enough food for his empty 15 year old boy gut! So I thought ahead and I got the

Kids meal Freshly Sliced Turkey with Roasted Potatoes and Vegetables This actually came with corn, mashed potatoes and cornbread.

I also got the Kids meal chicken nuggets with fries.

IMG_20140721_193146_zps168e4c55.jpg

This item is not on the menu. When I was in line I asked if they had a kids size nugget meal and instead of the 8 adult nuggets, the kids meal includes 4 nuggets. I knew that DS would eat some fries and some nuggets and I would have a nugget or 2. The kids turkey meal was delicious. There were 2 nicely sized slices of meat and a big spoonful of sweet corn and a large ladle of mashed potatoes with gravy. I asked for extra gravy on the meat and on the side. The CM’s working the counter said in order to get the extra gravy I would have to answer a question about Disney. They thought it was a tough question but I answered it so quickly and with an extra bit of information that they were quite surprised. They gave my 2 extra scoops of gravy for that! :thumbsup2 It helps to know facts about Disney sometimes. :lmao: I really loved the look on their faces when I came up with that answer so fast. Back to dinner.
DD went with the Individual sized pepperoni pizza

IMG_20140721_193132_zpsdd31fd88.jpg

She loves her some pepperoni and this was no exception. This didn’t let her down.

DH went with the Create-Your-Own Pasta choose from a variety of your favorite sauces and fresh ingredients, including Chicken or Shrimp.

This picture can’t do justice to showing just how much food you actually get with this option. My DH had me lift the container of food and it felt like it weighed about 3 lbs. They pack it in the container! I don’t remember exactly what he got on his pasta, but he loved it and raved about it for a few days after we ate there.

In addition to the food selections, I got 2 chocolate milks that were included with the kids meal we ordered and we used our refillable mug to get some soda (with about 3 refills right then) during the meal.

We really liked this food court. There were so many choices from salads, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, hot meals, and more that no matter what our tummies were in the mood for, we had it at our disposal. Would we go back, absolutely! All of this yumminess only cost us $41.70 including tax. Since it was a Counter Service, no tip required. That averages less than $11/person and that was 5 meals we bought. I was very satisfied with the amount of food I received on the kids turkey meal. I was not really hungry after that meal. (not that I didn’t eat more later) :rolleyes1

Up next- Wait if we aren’t doing fantasmic, shouldn’t we still get a snack/dessert???

I love the make your own pasta at Riverside! And their carrot cake is delicious. Reading this review makes me wish I was going to be staying there in a few weeks instead of Coronado, but the bounceback offer for Coronado was by far the best.

:welcome: I tasted the pasta and it was delicious and fresh. Loved watching them make it right in front of us! That was fun. never stayed at Coronado and never gotten a bounce back offer. We eventually want to stay at least one night in every resort on property. When I can finally convince DH to do split stays, that might be a good possibility and will happen sooner than later! :lmao: Thanks for joining in.

I love the counter service there! They have such a varied selection of foods. I really like the pasta, but I loved their create a salad also!! Huge amounts of food in both!

What a great idea to get the kids meal Turkey so you could have some nuggets also! It looks really yummy and the nuggets at WDW are yummy!!

:welcome: Karla!!! Love your name! :lmao: :rotfl2: I meant to respond to your original post the other day and the day got away from me. So here I am now.
My kids really do eat all sorts of things. My DS is more picky about certain textures but he loves food in general and will try most things at least once. DD is odd with not liking hamburgers but will eat meatballs and hamburger helper...I have nothing to say about that. Just weird! :confused3 The one things I did with my kids when they were younger was whatever I made for dinner or lunch was what they ate, I wasn't a short order cook. It seemed to work. If they didn't like it, they had to at least try a bite or two. But they knew they wouldn't get anything else to eat if they didn't eat what I cooked.

That counter service was so good, we ate there again later in our trip. The kids meal was enough food for me. All the food I had there was super good.

I really loved Port Orleans Riverside, all of it. It was beautiful everywhere and the food was great. The CM's there were all so helpful and nice. It was our first full trip staying there and I would go back again in a heartbeat!

OK thats not fair ....what was the question? And you answer? We all want to play ::yes:: I'm enjoying your reviews. We are going at the end of Oct for MNSSHP and F & W. Now I may have to add breakfast at the Fort. We never did it before and it looks great and reasonable which for a family of 5 is welcome news.

:welcome: Ok, I will share! The question was "In what year was Mickey Mouse created?" Well of course it was 1928! I added that he was created on the train ride and was originally named "Mortimer" They were shocked that I knew that much. :thumbsup2
Some day I hope to go to MNSSHP and F&W. That breakfast was delicious. I know that their prices are going up sometime soon. They said that dinner was going from $24.99 to about $31ish. Well, to me, that still isn't too bad for a Disney buffet. I would go there. If you have time and don't mind missing some park time, it is so well worth it. It may not be the best deal on the meal plan, but if you are paying out of pocket, it is a GREAT deal!!!

Thank you for your sweet reply!! I have had them try many things but so far they are very set in their ways, lol. My grandmunchkins really surprise me with what they do and don't like though.

I agree that the cm's at Port Orleans are wonderful! One day we went to eat lunch and a downpour started. The cm's brought out coloring pApers, board games and I think play doh. They then played with the kids. When it stopped raining my grandmunchkin, then 6 thought he had to stop playing and got very upset, but the cm stayed and finished the game with him, which made his whole day!! :goodvibes:

We filled out a guest experience as imho she went above and beyond in helping my grandson feel extra special!!

Just one reAson I love Disney customer service so much!!

Looking forward to more adventures!!!

Snacks after dinner
So after our dinner at Riverside we took some time to look around at the main building since it was still raining. On our way back to our room (a 1 minute walk from the main building) we opted to get some “dessert” from the same place. I thought I had some pictures, but since I only had my phone, I didn’t take any. Sorry! My DS had the magic cookie bar, DD had a chocolate milkshake, DH had an Oatmeal raisin cookie, and I had a chocolate chip cookie. All in all, they were good and filling after a nice dinner. The total cost was $14.34 or if we had the dining plan it would have been 4 snack credits

Up next is our family Epcot day and we start with Lunch at Rose and Crown.

Loving your review! You've made me want to try 50's Primetime!

:welcome: It has always been a favorite of mine since we started eating there. We eat there every trip we make! I am a big (read that HUGE) fan of comfort food. They do it well.

Stay tuned, I will have my next update done tomorrow evening. Glad to have you along!:thumbsup2

Yum, I'm so enjoying your trip report! I'm so glad your BOG visit was a good one, and all the food is looking good!

Great reviews! I am enjoying reading about your dining experience. We are going the end of October. Someone told us about Trail's End for dinner and we have an ADR. After reading your reviews we might have to try it for breakfast also. I can't wait to keep reading!
