I Found the Funnel Cake, but Where is the Chocolate Covered Pineapple? Updated 10/21

Rose and Crown Lunch

For this trip, we were trying to add new or different locations to our itinerary. We showed the menus to our kids and this came up as an option. Now, DH and I ate here one other time and liked it well enough, but with so many others that we really like, this just never made it back on our list. We had eaten here either on our honeymoon (1994) or our trip in 1998, we just can’t remember which it was. :confused3 Either way, this would be the first for our cherubs.
As much as I love the look of 50’s Prime Time Café, I love this look also. Deep wood and rich décor.

We decided to give the scotch egg a try for starters. I have seen some great reviews here on the Dis and talked to DH about it and it was a go. In order for each of us to have a nice size sampling, we ordered 2 of these to share. It sounded like I should like it, hard-boiled egg wrapped with sausage coated and I believed fried (can’t reach the site to allow the descriptions, I apologize). All items that I like separately and together was a lovely combination. It was cooked perfectly. There was a crunchy outside with mild sausage and a perfectly hard-boiled egg. Dear Heavens, where has this been all my life??? I will be back for this, if nothing else!!!

After that deliciousness that was our appetizer, we went onto entrees.
DD and DH both opted for the Bangers and Mash. A very mild sausage, but different from the version in the Scotch Egg. This had some shallots in it and DD wasn’t fond of those but loved the rest. DH ate it all and savored every bite. He says he won’t touch an onion but shallots he likes.

DS went with the Breakfast Burger. This thing was HUGE! He let me have a bit and with the egg in this, it add a nice flavor with the runny yoke all over the place. He ate it all, so I am gonna guess it was good. I would order it sometime.

Then I took a picture to show you just how tall and huge this massive thing is.

100_8689_zps62d83cc6.jpg

I went with the Fish and Chips. I like a nice fried fish every now and again and this was a now. Again would come later. I had a small competition in my mind. We were eating here this day and the next day we were eating at Raglan Road in Downtown Disney. I would have the Fish and Chips there also. I wanted to see which would win. So this version was a nice size piece of fish cooked nicely. The chips were perfectly fried. My only issue was the bottom of my piece of fish was a bit (read that a good half) of the bottom breading was on the soggy side. It wasn’t greasy but more a wet soggy, not so much that I couldn’t eat it, but enough that I noticed it. I ate it all. How would the other rate, you will have to stay tuned for that.

This is just a silly shot of the paper that comes with the plate of Fish and Chips.

This is a good location with some great food. There was some remodeling going on while we were there but we couldn’t see anything. One thing I did notice was that, as I was checking in, all walk-ups were being told that they would be seated outside only. On another note with my allergies, when I checked in, they said they didn’t have any listed on my reservation. So I told them and apparently something was lost in translation. I said I was allergic to avocado and green tea. They heard I was allergic to avocado, cream and tea. So as our waiter, Bill, looked at our information, he rattled off the list and I chuckled. He asked what was wrong and I said there were only 2 allergies and explained the problem. He then chuckled as well and said that it must have been my Yankee accent. :confused3 :rotfl:

Another silly shot, this one of our cherubs! :lmao::rotfl2:

100_8670_zpse87207ba.jpg

This was a lovely location and would be perfect to watch Illuminations at night. I would go back again, if there aren’t too many changes in menu, which I see there have been. I would give it consideration again. We give it a 3.5 out of 5 alligators. This meal cost us $89.93 + tip. That is $22.48/person for 2 apps and 4 entrees and a soda each. We were each full after our meals so that worked well for us.

Stay tuned for dinner at Teppan Edo next!

Great reviews! I am enjoying reading about your dining experience. We are going the end of October. Someone told us about Trail's End for dinner and we have an ADR. After reading your reviews we might have to try it for breakfast also. I can't wait to keep reading!

:welcome: and Thanks! I am glad you are enjoying it. I love writing these reviews. I always find them helpful as I get ready for an upcoming trip. I realize they are just others opinions, but it is nice to see pictures and hear what others thought of different places. I will spill a little secret, just in case I don't get to this before your trip, we had dinner at Trail's end and LOVED it!!! We ate there with my Mom and Dad and they loved it as well. We loved both our meals there and it was thanks to another Diser that we found this lovely Disney secret. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!!

Teppan Edo

So after a nice afternoon roaming around Epcot, we headed to our dinner reservation at one of our favorite, must do places, Teppan Edo. This is always a unanimous pick by all four of us! That is saying something in our house. But the odd thing I noticed this time is that every time we go to our reservation at this location, it’s raining. Doesn’t matter if it is a lunch or dinner reservation, it is raining. I am going to say that it is a good luck kind of thing. If it rains, we have a great experience. Just a little insight here, it was POURING!!!
So we go in and see them squeegeeing
the floor and keeping everything safe for their diners. We waited a short while for our grill side partner family to arrive and then we were seated. We all started with sodas and then DD dropped a small bombshell on us, she wasn’t really hungry. HUH??? Where did that come from? And where is my REAL daughter??

So Akiha is our server and she is the sweetest thing ever. She was so nice and she had a beautiful smile.

OOOOHHH Shiny…..

100_8696_zps9d822187.jpg

Our chef, Reiko, was good.

100_8701_zpsa2d4b8cd.jpg

She was not quite as “showy” as some of the male counterparts in our room, but she was very good, none the less. Her only short coming was the volcano. See what I mean?

I love watching how they cook everything and know when to cook it and when to cut it and get this, the steak goes on last… Who knew??? Thought that would take longer than the shrimp or scallops. Wow, I could use a tip or two on timing, I guess…

DD decided to only get the Wafu Ribs- Sake, Soy Sauce, and Ginger Braised Pork Ribs. She loves ribs and this was more than enough for a not at all hungry girl. She loved what she ate and said that the flavor was very good and they were juicy meat ribs.

100_8702_zpsddea9ce3.jpg

DS went with Asakusa-Steak & Shrimp. The boy loves him some carnivorous steak meat and his true love is shrimp, so this was totally up his alley. He asked for medium steak and it was perfectly cooked and the shrimp were also cooked perfectly as well, juicy and plump.

DH was trying to decide if he wanted something new or something he loved the last time. He went with the delicious previous choice of Kajiki Maguro-Swordfish Steak. He loved it last time and it was no different this time. He fully realizes that this is not a healthy option, but he didn’t care! And, he would get it again if he was in the mood for it!

100_8732_zps5c2f9945.jpg

I went with my steadfast love here at Teppan, Hotate-Cold Water Sea Scallops. Oh how I love these round juicy pieces of pure joy. Reiko cooked them perfectly with a nice sear on both sides and not rubbery at all. Melt in my mouth goodness. My only negative comment about these is that I never think they give me enough (although I am always full when I leave!!!) My mouth is watering right now just thinking about them.

And I love me some of that famous Yum Yum sauce. I gotta get me some of that white goodness!!!

100_8727_zps65bfb169.jpg

We all love the mushrooms and noodles that they give you. I love the onions that are in the mix, but not the zucchini, but my DH is the opposite and DS doesn’t like either of those, just the mushrooms and noodles.

This time around was the first we had the beef rice. I usually never even ate the white rice as I was always full by that point and this time was no different. I tried the rice, just to say I did and it was just ok to me. It was sticky and not terribly flavorful. I gave most of it to DD. She didn’t eat much of it, but she wasn’t hungry at all at that point.

Since we had our anniversary pins on, they gave us a piece of cake and sang a song to us. They did the same for DD’s birthday and she also got a piece of cake and a decorated chef’s hat. She loved it!

We had a fantastic time here again. This location has been a tried and true winner for our family every time we have eaten here, which is why it continues to go on our must do every trip. We have never been impressed with the dessert choices and wouldn’t have ordered any but only ate them since they are given to us. We have eaten here on the Deluxe dining plan, regular dining plan and out of pocket. I think that in our case, out of pocket works best and did so this time since DD didn’t have a meal at all. If they had better desserts it might make it a better option, but until then… We will continue to eat here and love our entrees (most likely) and just get our desserts in Germany! For this meal, we spent $117.79 + tip which was $29.45/person which is skewed since DD didn’t have a full meal.

Up next are a few snacks from Germany with pictures!

Catching up on your visits to Rose and crown and teppan Edo. I've never done the former, but you scotch egg looks oh so good. This is something I've always wanted to try but just never made it. And yum that burger with the egg. Such a food combo.

Your teppan Edo meal so totally has me jonesing for Japanese steakhouse. I had no idea they had swordfish, definitely different than most places. And I'm with you scallops all the way. Been a while since we've eaten there but it's always a good option.

Another great review! I've never had swordfish, but I wouldn't know it wasn't healthy! And the scallops look amazing.

Kari,

Rose and Crown was good but that Egg was unexpected in such a good way!!! I didn't know if I would like it but man it was delicious. Teppan Edo is our all time favorite, we each love our separate foods and the show. They really know how to cook those foods just right! Simplistic but superb! DH LOVES the swordfish but I only eat the scallops, I won't even consider anything else!!!

Thanks!!! Yeah, swordfish is one that has high levels of Mercury making it an unhealthy fish of choice, but he thinks it's fantastic (and Disney is the only place he gets it). I am in love with those scallops. :worship: Seriously wishing I could have some right now. May have to pick some up on my next shopping trip. If only they weren't so expensive!

Wow, your pictures are so great--I love seeing the food as it cooked. The scallops look wonderful! Teppan Edo was one of our favorites from our first Disney trip--my kids still talk about it!

Thanks, it was easy taking good pictures with such good food in front of us! It is always one of our favorites. :thumbsup2

Great reviews of two places we have yet to try but would like to. The scotch egg in UK looks so good, I haven't had one in years. Also that burger, good grief that thing is huge and looks delicious! Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

Seeing your Teppan Edo review makes me want to go to our local Japanese steakhouse! I've never tried T.E. just because I feel like it's too overpriced and I love our local place.

I definitely need to try Rose & Crown. It was on my short list for the Candlelight Processional dinner, but the rest of my party decided they'd rather try La Hacienda. That Scotch egg looks super tasty, it's at least half the appeal of going there for me!

Thanks! I was really wanting to try the egg but unsure since I don't make very adventurous choices but since we all agreed to try it, I thought what the heck, go for it! It worked out so well and was really delicious! That burger was enormous! But DS ate the whole thing, but then again he is a teenager with a hollow leg or 2! :rotfl2: :lmao:

I have never tried our local place but want to since going to TE over the past 6 years. I am afraid it won't live up to what is at Disney so I just don't go, sad but true. We went to R&C in either 94 or 98 and liked it but with so many other choices in Epcot that we love, it never made sense to get back there until the kiddos asked to go there this time. Glad we did but it won't be back on our list since we like too many other places more. Food and service were good, just others we like more. But the egg did win our hearts and taste buds over!!! :rotfl2::lmao: We have eaten at La Hacienda and I love Mexican. This was great, we shared the large plates on our previous trip and we will be going back there because we all love Mexican food and this was great. Hope you enjoy your choice!

So our sweet tooth hit us and we decided to find some goodies. The good thing is that we knew just where to look. We went to our favorite place in Germany. Karamel Kusche (spelling)
We got 2 kinds of cookies, a caramel with marshmallow, a chocolate caramel and chocolate covered strawberry. I was happy because when I ordered the strawberry, the CM said that he couldn’t give me that one by itself because it was too small. So, he gave me 2 medium size ones for the price of 1 large one. I liked that. A 2 for 1 at Disney World, works for me!! Here are our pictures.

This is DH's goodie of choice!

Hopefully there is still someone reading out there. I still have much more good food to go!

I'm impressed with the $25 budget for meals! You go girl!!!!! :-) I have never ate at a Firehouse Subs but it does sound good. Glad all the restaurants fit the bill. We hate White Castle here which I believe is similar to Krystal's. In this house it's a guy thing to eat there. Hahaha. I haven't ate at Zaxby either. I know I've seen them in Alabama when we visit our son. Is it similar to Kentucky Fried?? Looking forward to the start of the Disney dining reviews. Let the fun begin!!!!!!

I never had Zaxbys either until we moved to Charleston, SC. My favorite thing to order is WINGS & THINGS which isWings and Chicken Fingerz, Crinkle Fries, Texas Toast, celery, Ranch and Zax Sauce. It is very filling and YUM! Zaxby's is nothing like KFC. You can't get a bucket of chicken or mashed potaoes or biscuits, etc. It is mostly fried food and salads.

the Sautéed Shrimp and Scallops with Seasonal Vegetables and Mushrooms served in Puff Pastry with a Creamy Lobster Sauce looked phenomenal.

I'm still here. Love, love, love karamel kuche. The caramel creme your hubby got is my AbFab.

I'm following along too! You have gone to some of my favorites so far and some places that I am planning to try on my next trip! Your caramel goodies look amazing!! Can't wait to see the next part of your trip! :)
