I Cut My Hair! I'm getting [Dread] Locs! UPDATED - Pg 39!

Glenda,
It looks great!! Henna was a bit before my time so I have no experience with it although I remember it being used a little in the salon when I started doing hair. I remember there were a thousand rules about it and I never used it. I have forgotten anything I did know about it!
I think your hair looks great just the way it is. So, be careful with the color cause if you mess up your locs we're all gonna be upset! ;) LOL

Enjoy your trip to see Mickey!! I'm sure he is starting to wonder where I am!!

Wow, I am surprised it didn't take. I used to dye my hair with Henna all the time when I was a teen.

Your hair still looks great though :woohoo:

Hey DISers! I took some pics this weekend while visiting friends in South Carolina. So I'll use these for my May update!

These were taken on Sunday, going to their church, The Bible Way Church of Atlas Road.

It was their Communion Sunday, and they wear white.

Here's my friends' son and I in the car on the way to dinner.

Well that's it! Sorry I didnt do any close-ups. It was bad enough taking pics of MYSELF and trying not to get caught - imagine them catching me taking pics of my head!

When I washed my hair this weekend, none of my locs washed out! So hopefully soon they will all start to loc/firm up, so I don't have to worry about them unraveling when they get wet. Can you imagine how I'd look after getting off a water ride? :hippie:

While away, my friend took me to a health store, where I found Henna Color for hair. I'm going to try it this weekend. I've been watching LOTS of youtube videos by women who used it. Hopefully some color will show up. I hoping for a reddish-brown.

Well that's it! I hope you enjoyed the pics. I'll make sure to update this thread this weekend (after seeing Star Trek of course!), so you can see if the Henna worked! If anyone has any tips, please post! Thanks! :wave2:

I never even heard of Henna till a few months ago. Aparently, it only shows up well on light-colored hair. Oh well. And believe me, I'm trying to be careful so my next installment does NOT feature me with a bald head!

I'll make sure to tell Mickey Hello for you!

Thanks Amanda! Was your hair lighter than it is now when you used the Henna? Let me know!

:lmao: You are too funny! I did find someone on you tube who used Loreal Excellence High Color, mixed with Oreor Creme Developer 30. She said that if does lift your color, and deposit the color you want, without bleaching. And her hair looked REALLY good! So I'll see what I'll try after the trip!

I'm so excited about the trip! I already have my outfits packed! Thanks for eating at Sanaa with it! I can't wait to try it!

Thanks for the feedback everybody! Remember, if you have any tips, please let me know!

My hair was probably a bit darker...as my natural color is dark brown :)

And :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1: for Expedition Everest on Sunday!!!!!

I guess my hair is just hard to color!

Hmm . . . so should we start a mini-meet for that Sunday? Where's Antss - we can put her in charge of that!

I'm soooo excited! I guess I'd better have on a different outfit from last year! HA!

Hi Glendamax,

What a great update! Your hair is coming along beautifully. I have been considering going with sister locks with my hair. I currently am wearing kinky twists to help keep my hair manageable while I grow out my perm. I don't have the courage to cut my hair off yet.

I'll look through my many magazines and online sites that I love to keep up with regarding hair care, and see if I can find some information for your hair color situation.:cutie: Love all the pictures. Thanks for sharing and keep it coming! :)

Angela

Hey Glenda, sorry that I don't post:surfweb: much but I always keep up with your thread. :thumbsup2 Your locs look great. TIP:When I color my locs I usually use some type of highlight type color and color some not all of them.

Glenda it is looking great. UGH on the color! I'm sorry it didn't work for you. Dare I say it? Why not go to a salon for the color? Get the first run with them and then maybe it'll be easier at home? Just a thought. From someone that has never colored their hair. EVER.
Although I'm thinking I may have to I am seeing grey!:scared1:

Hey Glenda! I haven't posted for awhile, but I've been here keeping track of your progress! For coloring your hair, maybe it would be better to have a professional do it.
We'll be missing each other at the World. :sad2: One of these times........:yay: Say hi to Antss for me!

I think you did!!! :rolleyes1

Angela, go on youtube and do a search for "the big chop". You will be surprised at the number of women who are cutting their perm off! And 99% of them look better afterwards. Watching those helped me to take the plunge! Who knows, before the summer is over, it could be you! :thumbsup2

Thanks! Chescaleigh on you tube has done the same, but with REALLY bright colors. In a year or so, when my hair is really loced, I'd like to do the same.
Got your PM! Loved the pics, and thanks for the tips. I've heard of Sun-In. Perhaps I'll give that a try in a few weeks to lighten things up! Thanks!

You are soooo right about going to the salon. It's just that after going for YEARS, it's just fun and freeing trying to see what I can do on my own. But believe me, if I don't get the results I want, I know someplace I can go! Thanks!

I'll tell Antss Hello for you! And yes, I know I should go to a shop. I'm just trying to see if I can break my YEARS of dependancy on them! But believe me, I'm not willing to lose my hair over it!

Hey lady! Long time no see! I'm late but here!

Hey Kat! Good to see you! :wave2:

Thank you! I'm surprised that the Henna didnt work on your skin. I've always wanted to get one at EPCOT in Morocco. I never thought it might NOT show up. Hmmm . . . if I do have some time I may try it when I go back! Thanks for posting!
Supposedly it shows up better the darker your skin is...I've tried every hint that I've ever found to make it come out darker, and it just usually looks like nasty disease splotches on me. I'm just too darn white! When people get them done at the booths like at Morocco I usually just see them with the henna still on - I've never seen an "after" to know if they work! Sorry to hear the permanent color didn't work either - I always leave my dyes on WAY longer than I'm supposed to because it's hard for my hair to accept color (or bleach), but the only "permanent" color I ever did was blue...now I just like the semi-permanent ones when I can find them, so that I never get the crazy roots.

Really? I thought it would show up better on a lighter person. Well, hopefully if I have time, I'll check it out in June!

I plan on trying it again next month. But this time with a MUCH lighter color, and I'll leave it on longer. I did see a you tube video of a woman doing her roots, and retouching her color. She made it look soooo easy!

I'm so sorry that your having so much trouble coloring your hair. I have the compete opposite problem. My hair always wants nothing more that to go red. After years of trying to fight it, I've given up and now just color it a reddish shade. and it's thrilled. Yours looks beautiful though as is! :goodvibes

If you have a Sally's Beauty near you, or some kind of similar place you may have some luck there. I purchase my hair color there and they sell the color and developer separately. That way you can puchase a stronger developer which should help lift your old color. I love their Color Ion line, but they have L'Oreal and Wella lines that work the same way. If you've colored your hair before you shouldn't have any problems doing it yourself. (Just remember to pick up gloves and an applicator bottle as well). For me it ends up being much cheaper than the other stuff too which is a nice bonus. The sales people there are pretty knowledgabe too and might have some advice.
