I am fed up with spyware!

I used Ad-Aware and Sybot in tandem but Xupiter and NewtonKnows continues to pop up after every restart...


...anyone have any suggestions?

To answer my own question...this site seems to have some solutions...I hadn't tried this manual removal...

Open the registry (from the Start menu, click Run and enter regedit) and find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Delete the entries 'XupiterStartup' and 'XupiterCfgLoader' (earlier variants), 'SQUpdatesChecker' and 'SQConfigChecker' (Sqwire variant) or 'OrbitUpdate' and 'OrbitView' (OrbitExplorer variant).

Open a DOS command prompt window (Start->Programs->Accessories) and enter the following commands to deregister the toolbar (Xupiter and BrowserWise variants):


For the 2003 variant, use:

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\XupiterToolbar.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\XTUpdate.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\XTSearch.dll"
For the Browser variant, use:

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Browser\Updates\BrowserToolbar.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Browser\Updates\BWUpdate.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Browser\Updates\BWSearch.dll"
For the Sqwire variant, use:

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Sqwire\t.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Sqwire\u.dll"

For the OrbitExplorer variant, use:

my suggestion is to get a mac.
not too much spyware going around for macs.

I hate it too. I tried everything and after awhile, gave up. My computer was running terrible between the spyware, then a virus/worm. Eventually it crashed-- had it repaired and so far so good (knock on wood!)

Me too!!! What is going on? Everytime I sign onto my Comcast.net, it signs on as my home page. Each time I have to go back into tools and reset my sign-on screen. It is really starting to bug me!!!

I run Nortons internet security, and it seems to get 95% of it , but still I was hit last week with something it could not detect. A couple of porn sites inserted themselves into my internet explorer context menus. Every time I went to cut and paste, or copy something, they were there. I ended up buying a utility called tool bar cop, to help me get it out of the registry. What a pain.

Ever wonder if these little spyware programs were created by the people who sell stuff like Norton Internet Security and Bar Cop? I know it's not true but still.......
