Hurricane watch 2018

This is what I’m worried about! We can try to fill up a couple times before we get close and I do have a hybrid that should get me 400 miles, but I don’t want to push it and not have gas

As of right now looks like my parents (flying out Monday the 17th) will be taking a direct hit in the Wilmington area. I would say their best bet is to fly out a few days early, but I don’t know if they would want to do that without being able to go back and check on things at their house. It’s literally brand new, they just closed last week and are still moving in

And the traffic. That was also a real problem. 95 was a parking lot for hours on end.

When you called SW @areno79 did they give any indication of if/when they'd be expanding the advisory? Just curious. :)

Also, a big thank you to everyone on here--it's nice to have the company as we watch and hope together.

I actually asked the rep that, and she said they are obviously monitoring very closely. She said since it's so far out she wouldn't be surprised to see additional airports added as we get more concrete forecasts. She also said they could add an advisory even up to an hour before a flight...there's just not a way to tell.

Thanks! Good to hear.

Also, I am very appreciative of all the info you're providing--every question I seem to have you've either already posted about or answer with some info you've gotten by calling. Thank you!!

Areno79 - I don’t think our home airport will be put on the list - my concern is if MCO is last minute - as I’m making that long drive to the airport

I think you'll be ok--Most things I'm reading seem to indicate that Orlando has been spared this one. Hopefully it stays that way!

You're welcome! I have major anxiety, so I deal with it by having as much information as possible, almost to a fault. I know how helpful other Dis'ers have been here so I'm just trying to return the favor. We're all in this together at this point!

Edited to add: Someone else is going to have to update if anything big happens in the next hour or so. I've been putting it off but I have to get to Target for last minute trip supplies, and the grocery store so I can eat some healthy snacks while I watch The Weather Channel obsessively over the next few days. :rolleyes1

You are too cute!

Any thoughts on how Florence could affect Florida I’ve only been through sandy up here in the north east Irene wasn’t even worth a mention. 2 days till we leave Newark for Orlando
My guess is no real effect except maybe the area closest to the GA state line and the Atlantic Coast in that area.

So what does a travel advisory mean exactly? Just that your flight may be impacted by weather (and you’re allowed to change if you want)? Just thinking of there is an advisory from wed-sun, but storm doesn’t hit til Friday, some of these on both ends might still go out right?

I think you’ve hit it on the head. I wanna fly out Wed afternoon, ‘cause I’m hoping a flight from DC to Orlando can make it

I'm flying down for a super quick trip this week, but am supposed to fly back to RDU Wednesday night leaving at 8pm. I see the travel advisory begins on Wednesday. Any seasoned travelers with advice? Looks like it's possible wind could start arriving at the coast around that time. I'm traveling solo and not sure what to do.

I'm in Raleigh and I can't see the weather here being impacted enough Wed. for RDU to be affected. From what I can see, if it stays on track, the winds should not even be affecting our coast until about Wed. night around 8pm.
Now, Thursday on may be a different matter - just a 'wait & see'!!
On the 'projected path' should not affect FL at all except the coastal waters, and maybe air traffic from Orlando to affected areas.

We're planning to fly down Thursday afternoon from Toronto to Orlando... Does anyone know if flights going into Orlando will be impacted? Our path normally flies over NC/SC.. I am considering switching my flight to Wed. eve just so I avoid the winds. I hate turbulence too!

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but during the last two hurricane seasons the best & most highly accurate info I found was on facebook on a page called - Mikes Weather Page. Mike has been doing livestreams over the past few days - his info is usually spot on. His streams often have an audience of 6K plus followers who have come to rely on him for storm info.
Also WESH-TV out of Orlando has been doing live “morning coffee chats” daily in the mornings with their Meteorologist - on their facebook page.
