Hurricane watch 2018

The earliest we can leave Chicago is about 3pm Friday so I need some opinions here please.
Do we drive straight through and take our usual route of I-65 through Indiana and Kentucky/Tennessee to I-24 through Chattanooga and then I-75 through Atlanta and all of Georgia to Orlando and arrive at WDW a day earlier than expected? Our original plan was to spend Saturday night in Macon and drive to WDW Sunday morning.
OR
Do we stay as far west as possible and go down through Illinois down to Alabama and cut east once we get towards the pan handle of Florida?
My concern is the rains that will be inland by Friday night and Saturday morning.

Southwest issued advisory for

Wednesday, September 12 - Sunday, September 16

Charleston (CHS)

Charlotte (CLT)

Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP)

Raleigh/Durham (RDU)

Richmond (RIC)

Norfolk (ORF)

Happy to see DCA isn't on the list...but then looked to see where my plane would be coming from and unfortunately it's Charlotte. This will be a long week watching the track of this storm! The moment I get down there I am heading straight to the pool and getting myself a sunken treasure, I'll need it after this week!

That's a tough one, and maybe too far out to determine at this point in time. Honestly I feel like planning to stay west is the best course of action with the info we have as of now.

Uh oh! My flight is the first one out Friday morning, so not sure where it’s coming from. I’m hoping they add DCA to the list so I can try and get out Wed afternoon.

I will meet you there. After fantasizing about my next Sunken Treasure for a year, I am going to need several to get over the stress (I keep adding, when I say stuff like this out loud, “IF we get there...”, the voice of doom just can’t help coming out. My DH is ready to put me on a plane by myself, I’m sure).

Keeping my fingers crossed for you and the rest of us! Not sure what to do, my flight isn't until the morning on the 16th, but with this storm expected to stall it looks like trying to leave a day or two earlier isn't going to help. Just gotta keep hoping for the best I guess!

Good luck! It is both a blessing and a curse that MCO won’t be issuing an advisory. We are still considering just outright purchasing new tix for Wednesday now that the timeframe for landfall has slowed down and Friday will be the worst of it.

Good luck to you too! We can’t buy whole new tix, so just waiting now. I am grateful it’s not a high travel time so so far lots of availability.

Yes I am thinking that west is best for now. I will see what Tuesday's and Wednesday's hurricane forecast is to make a final decision.

So I am new to this hurricane stuff and I was reading Southwest website and I see the advisory for those mentioned before but it the wording were does it say that they airport listed has to be effected to change? When I read the verbiage it says that any one traveling during the effected time frame may change. So I am just wondering in case this happens again in October. The verbiage is below:

Customers who are holding reservations for the abovementioned dates, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

I wondered this myself so I called Southwest a little bit ago to get clarification. The rep confirmed that even though it doesn't state specifically so in the verbiage, your departure or arrival airport must be one of the listed airports in the advisory in order to be able to change flights without paying an additional charge.

Interesting. Thank you for the clarification. I would think if your flight is coming from an effected city then your plane would therefore be effected.

Question- how do you check to see where the plane you are going on is coming from?
( please forgive my ignorance)

Any thoughts on how Florence could affect Florida I’ve only been through sandy up here in the north east Irene wasn’t even worth a mention. 2 days till we leave Newark for Orlando

Ok, you could take 20 over towards Augusta, but then you would have to leave the interstate to head to Macon unless you specifically want to hit Atlanta (which I assume you don’t). If you are going that way, I would take 20 to Madison, Ga, then take 441 south to Eatonton, Ga, then 129 south from there to Macon and pick up 75. When we go to the Smokies, we take 75 up to Macon and then hop on 129 then 441 and usually overnight in Madison. Both 441 and 129 are decent roads and not a lot of traffic normally (don’t know if Florence will have an impact or not).

Thanks again!
We changed our reservation from Port Wentworth to the Macon area for Wednesday evening. We'll arrive in FL a day earlier, but we got a reservation with our Choice points for one night before our resort check in.

I use flight aware. You can look at that flight from the current day or day prior, and there is a link on that page where you can track the inbound plane to see where it's coming from.
Thank you!!
Ours starts the day in Nashville - then San Francisco - then Chicago - then Manchester, NH ( me) - then MCO

Any thoughts, anyone?
