How would you surprise your group w/a Specialty Cruise?

I need some suggestions on how to go about this. I'm the Disneyholic of the family and finally convinced the immediate family (daughter, sister, niece and her family) to come to WDW with me this summer. We will be a group of 8 (6 adults and 2 children, 4yo & 7yo). It is the first time for most of them, (daughter and sis went with me the first time but not since). I would like to surprise them with the specialty cruise for Illuminations on the first night. Problem: We decided we were not going to visit the parks on the first day but they might be willing to look at the hotels. We will have 2 cars, I don't drive so I can't take them there without them knowing where we are going. . . What excuse would you give to get them there without going to the Park? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!:(

Tell them you want to take them to Boardwalk to check out the hotel, entertainers, games and restaurants!

Drive to Boardwalk - you can park there, just tell the guard you're checking out the hotel.

I don't know where your boat would leave from, but you can walk to Yacht CLub from there or your boat can leave from the Boardwalk.

No need to go to a park at all!

The illumination cruises do not start in a park - they leave from the Boardwalk or from the Yacht Club marina.

Hope this helps explain it to you!

That's exactly what I wanted to know, what hotels were close by. Thanks you so much!

You could always say you were going for ice cream at Beaches & Cream there at the Beach Club....even go ahead and get a cone...suggest walking around to check out Yacht & Beach Club and the Boardwalk.... and walk around...then conveniently end up at the marina!

As a party of 8, you also qualify for to be a Grand Gathering, which lets you enjoy the Grand Gatherings experiences, one of which is a Magical Fireworks Voyage...a fireworks cruise for Wishes, hosted by Capt. Hook and Mr. Smee, with a greeting with Peter Pan at the end! We did this cruise in December and it is awesome!! It only runs 2 nights per week, though, so you'd have to see if it's available your night. Since it leaves from the Contemporary, no park admission is required. You could always catch the monorail there "to look around", shop, etc....and just end up at the marina!! If you're interested in Grand Gatherings, call the Grand Gatherings planners at 407-WDW-PLAN for more info.
