~How TWO trips became...who knows? ~ It's a TRIP! and an upgrade.... 4/22

:worship::worship::worship:on 7 miles and 2 still isn't shabby since it's 2 more than I've done in the last few years.

Thanks! :)

I started slow - even a 10 minute walk at times - and have built up to this! I am excited for the race!

You get to MEET someone special!!! I"m so stoked for you!! and for her!

7 miles?? You're going to look and FEEL like a million bucks (not that you don't already!) But, seriously, I may not be able to keep up with YOU!! Come April when the weather is reasonable I will have to get off my winter duff and do some training!!

I know it! I am talking about it over here because Amanda doesn't want to tell her...let it be a surprise! So don't tell. :)

Yeah! You gotta get out there and go for it! And when you get back to the States you will even have sidewalks! :cheer2:

I'm trying to talk her into marathon week-end 2012 over on Sandy's thread.

Did you see this in the WISH forum today? http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2376579

I had trained to fully run the marathon and only walked due to injury. But since you're training to walk, not run, this thread caught my eye. I don't know if any of the info currently posted on it is beneficial to you or not.

So far there is only ONE wish child....unless you guys join the mix. :rolleyes1

It is Piper...but don't tell her. It is a secret. :)

Dude!! We are totally going to meet at DHS! Definitely! :) Sounds like a blast!

How great you are gonna meet Piper!! That is awesome! :thumbsup2

I think I might have a few people to say hi to while we are in WDW. When we get closer I'll have to get your # and I'll give you mine as well.

I did two miles today...I probably should have done 3 miles...but I got started too fast this time and was hurting even after 2 miles. So...I decided not to push it today and try to work on getting 3 miles on Wednesday. :goodvibes

:cool1:

and like Dolce said - her long run was 20 - but keep in mind she did 10 miles then the 20 I believe...

the adreneline is so there for the first mile or so - I'm always amazed at how fast my first mile is! its the last 6 miles that you want to train for - you want that bling - and for your first race, you dont want to look over your shoulder and see the sweepers... or the police car....

I think finding a training schedule and sticking to it, will help you prepare - the one I was on was tough - but there were lots of 2 miles, then 3 miles, a 5 mile - the weekly total was what was important - I only did the one long 10 miler, and after that I was depressed, I hadnt made the whole ten miles in 16 m miles -

its a long haul, but there are lots of help out there - have you tried the podcast/music/beats that Dolce posted?

Good luck!!

and glad y'all have water - have you gotten that rotten smell out of your apartment?

YOU TOO?! She gets to meet you too!!?? I"m green with envy now. See, we coulda done a Kona, then rode Winnie with my Jul!! Mel and Maroo and I coulda snuck off and got our shop on... rrr.....

Well...I am sick.

Just a bad cold. But I finally got talked into some antibiotics by one of the doctors that works here - they even called me in some. :goodvibes

I could not decide yesterday if I should walk - I really wanted to, since I have my new toy (the Garmin) - but I was afraid I would make myself feel worse.

Now I am very glad I didn't walk, because I feel worse today than I did yesterday and can hear it in my chest. Oh well...at least I am on antibiotics. Hopefully I can still do my 8 miles on Saturday! I should be well by then!

I would love to have Liesa join us in 2012...she can totally do it!

Thanks for the link to the thread...I will have to check that out!

I am so nervous about going out too fast at the beginning...

I guess I need to practice that as I train and use my Garmin and see if I am able to do better on the last few miles if I start a little slower than I would like? :confused3

I did take a look at the free music! It was a really cool site!

I think my music is slower, though, than even the slowest they have on there. I find that I go faster and don't get as tired if I use a slower beat - then I take longer strides and get farther with less effort. I think my bpm is around 110 or 120?

I run the computer for my church on Sunday mornings, so I have access to our planning center that has all of the songs that we sing on Sundays...and it shows me beats per minute on each song - so I have been able to download several to see what the best beat per minute will be! :) More I need to practice on!

I am back at home and the condo smells great! My neighbors are all back, too, which is cool. I always feel safer living there by myself when my neighbors are all out and walking about - they always check on Muffin and me!

That is great that you will get to meet Piper and Tim's family! :yay::woohoo::cool1:

Sorry you are not feeling well but I am sure you will be back up to speed and walking in not time. I am trying to jump-start my healthy eating and exercise plan too - I am tired of being unhealthy and a size that I am not happy with. I think I am going to start on the Wii Fit until it is nice enough to walk outside - I know me and I will use cold/crappy weather as an excuse not to do it.

I am going to move our December discussion over here if you don't mind so we don't hijack poor Pamela's thread. Assuming the finances hold and we can go, I am really in limbo over when to go based on when the actual holidays all fall this year. I really need to get back to work but will be back to overanalyze and obsess over this with you. 'Cause you know it is critical that I hammer out the perfect dates now for a trip that may or may not happen in 11 months. :lmao:

You are so funny.

I have not really started the healthy eating part of my plan yet. In fact...I am thinking this walking may be just making me more hungry!

I love my Wii Fit! But...now my Wii is broken and I haven't the heart to go get a whole new one for the 4 times a month that I get on the Wii. Decided to get a treadmill instead. One day I will replace my Wii.

I am confused about December, too. So far I am leaving my trip that second weekend....? But I suppose I will end up moving it to the first weekend if my meets move to the first weekend? It is a lot more fun, when you are traveling solo, to have a group to pal around with.

Having said that...If I have DIS friends that are going that I can pal around with - without inturrupting anyone's vacation - then I would consider those dates, too.

My vacation days this year are going to be tight. I have the trip to take Lauren to New Orleans this year and I am going to have to take days to spend some time with my brother and sister-in-law this year, too - since I will be a first time aunt! :goodvibes So I will probably be going to Disney over dates that include a Fri/Sat/Sun - since I don't have to take any vacation on those days.

I thought my ears were burnin'!! :lmao:

Were we talking about you?! :) :rolleyes1

Maroo do take care of yourself! Glad you are on medication, no fun walking around with walking pnemonia - or worse!!

My friend from Houma LA paled around with us, and we really enjoyed it - and our dinner at Cape May - couldve lasted longer.... dh said it was the best group of internet friends of mine he's met!! :goodvibes (wonder if he minded being the only guy?? :rotfl:)

Leisa 2012 - I'll let you wait till after Maroo's Princess Half report :rolleyes1

it is addictive tho!! It helps to focus on YOU, to have a goal, and work on that goal - then to have your family behind you, and your goal - and doing 13.1 miles is a GREAT GOAL - doing it in Disney.... even better!!

PS Maroo I just typed a whole lot of info/thoughts/etc on the sweepers - just know, I feel your anxiety!! Did in '08 didnt in '10 but I shouldve!

I think the best thing you can do to avoid sweepers is to TRAIN TRAIN TRAIn... the 2nd thing, is to get in a higher wave!! That's easier said than done! but 100 people did it (because I was physically last, but I was ahead of 100 people in chip time! what if I'd been swept? they finished but not me?) Who knows what will happen in the next race? Each is different - but do push to the front of whatever corral you are place in - be at that rope - (you are probably assigned in the last wave/ last corral - but if you can figure a way to jump the fence and get in an earlier wave - you wont be the only one! imho!)

There is no way Lisa is going to let me jump any fences!

If I was by myself...:rolleyes1

But I am wondering how they break up the corrals? Is everyone that is over 2:45 all put in the last corral? Or do they break us up even more than that?

I saw that some on the half in Jan finished with an official time and they were way over 4 hours. But the Princess Half folks were all under 4 hours.

I hope to finish in 3:30 - so I should not have any trouble?

I am pretty sure I just have a bad cold. I don't work tomorrow, so my plan is to get some rest! :goodvibes

Whoa!!

I have a new toy!

I just love my new Garmin! I have had it a week and was supposed to walk 8 miles today... but I am still pretty sick. Still running fever and have been on antibiotics for 2 days.

So, I decided to load the software on my computer today and was dying to try it out! So I went for a walk...around my condo complex. I have always thought it was about 1/4 mile around all of the buildings. I figured it would show me as standing in the exact same spot...surely it isn't THAT sensitive...

Man!! It is so sensitive! It knew when I stepped off the curb onto the street for my "elevation" and I now know it is exactly .27 miles around my condo complex! I was pretty darn close!

So...I am excited about my training...even with the set back of this week. I am hoping that I can knock this out with the antibiotics (and plan to take ALL of them to KEEP it away!) and get back into training this week. And I think the fun of having this new toy will make the workouts just that much more fun to do outside!

I hope you guys are having a good weekend!

Have you figured out how to download additional icons and voices yet? That's my favorite part of my GPS. I have Tinkerbell instead of a car and the voice sounds a lot like Tink too. DH downloaded Cartman from South Park. Needless to say, we DO NOT have Cartman giving us directions while the kids are in the car!

I hope you are feeling better REALLY soon. Seems you've been sick on and off a lot this winter - is that typical for you? I hope not! You certainly don't want to spend your vacation days being ill when you could be spending them at WDW!

Congrats on the walk today. Even a short walk is progress when you're not feeling well!

Lol on the voices!

This is just a watch...so it doesn't talk....I don't think?!?

I am sick a lot. Always have been. I get frequent sinus infections and I have asthma - so when I get a sinus infection and let it go too long, it gets in my chest and I get bronchitis. This time I really thought it was just allergies and let it go about 2 days too long. And it has hung on pretty tight this time, too.

But...I REFUSE to call in sick. :sad2: I have an office with a door and I have just been going in there and shutting the door. Which means I have been getting a LOT of work done. One of my doctors came in and I was on the phone and coughing (I cough a lot more when I talk) and she backed out of the room. It was so funny. Someone put a "HAZARD" sign on my door, too. It was pretty funny. :rotfl2: They cut it off a biohazard box. My office is a bunch of jokers.

Someone once put a sign on my co-workers door that said, "FEED ME!" when she was on a diet. They are crazy.

I have probably stayed sick longer because I only took 2 days to really relax. I had church commitments yesterday morning and had to go and take care of Rachel yesterday, too - who is pretty sick herself - needed me to go stay with her until pretty late last night. She has the same thing I do...we are a coughing pair.:sick:

I do feel better today. I have work and Lauren tomorrow - so hopefully Wednesday I can get back out there and go walking!

Hope you are feeling better and are able to get back outside and do a bit of walking.

I am feeling better! But have not really done much walking yet. Still not up to par and not sure I should be out in the cold (ok...it is in the 40's here...but that is cold to me!) walking.

Hopefully Wednesday I can do a mile or so outside before the next cold front moves in? Or I may just do it inside?

I want to sorta slowly get back. I need to do 3 major workouts before the big day and want to stay consistent on the smaller ones...so that I am walking a few miles during the week about 3 days a week and doing one long walk - I still need to do an 8, 9 and 10 mile walk before the big day...

I have 5 more weekends to do those three workouts.

Depending on how I feel this weekend...I will shoot for a 1-2 mile walk on Wed, 1-2 miles on Thurs and maybe 6 or so on Friday. Assuming I feel good. Then jump to 8, 9 and 10!! :) With some time to spare...I hope!

Oh guys! I am SOOOOO frustrated.

I really, really, really want to be BETTER so that I can get out there and train! It has been over a week since I have walked - and now I am "grounded"...

The doctor I work for put her foot down and made me get a chest xray because I still sound pretty bad...and I have pneumonia. I thought I felt better! :sad1:

So...absolutely no walking. She is making me go home...no walking...no nothing till Monday.

She gave me some different meds and was very sweet. I love my job. It is so nice to work for people that get it.

:scared1::scared1: meds are good. get some rest.......

you'll be back walking in no time....:thumbsup2

That's awful!!! Pneumonia!!! You poor thing!!

I"m calling you right now!

What?!?! You have pneumonia ?!?!?

:scared1:

Get well ASAP! I know how those doctors are. I got into a fight with mine in December. I was pretty sick - ran a fever for the first time in 5 years - and she wanted me to stay home and rest. Each time I mentioned the word "run" she'd yell at me. Seriously. Yell. :confused3 She didn't care that I had a 17 mile training run scheduled for that next week-end. I wasn't happy with her. I just wanted something to get me well within the next 12-24 hours. I'd happily take a shot in the butt if it meant that I'd be able to run the next day. She was very unaccommodating. She offered to write me a doctor's note to excuse me from work the next day instead. :sad2:

Doctor's just don't get half and full marathon training schedules.
Silly doctors.
