Okay I have just started on Tuesday and have really dedicated myself, now we are leaving for WDW on Sunday 29th and staying through Sunday 6th.

Suggestions for success while there would be greatly appreciated.
We are staying at BWI and I understand they have a workout facility so that is a plus, my concern is how to survive all the great places to eat????? aaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Someone send the duct tape for my mouth...........

Hi!

It really depends on what plan you are on. I like Atkins, so when I go to WDW, I would be sure to have a good breakfast--eggs, meats, the works (the eggs benedict at GF is devine, just ask them to leave off the english muffin, and add extra asparagus and tomatoes!) For lunches and dinner, many of the Epcot resteraunts are good bets Atkins-wise--Japan (but no rice!), France, Canada and the UK all have good protein choices. Also, if you are eating in a sit-down rest, don't be afraid to ask for changes or substitutions. (i.e. if your food comes with pasta, ask for veggies, etc).

As for weight loss on the trip--I would look at the whole trip as an opportunity to jump start your program--you will do so much walking, as long as you make healthy food choices, you will probably lose more weight in that week than you would in a normal week at home.

Have a great trip!

I was able to stay on plan with Atkins during my May trip. It was really easy to do. I just stayed away from anything with bread, pasta or refined sugar.

I didn't feel deprived at all, either. I loved the foods I got to eat :)

You are "eating sensibly" right? You can eat sensibly at WDW too. The difficult part of that is deciding to do it and sticking with that decision.

Just make the best choices you can and don't obsess about what you eat. Try to have as much fun as possible. Isn't this going to be your last trip for just you and your wife? Next time you visit WDW you will have a little boy with you. That is just so exciting, isn't it?

I'll bet you do just great and have a magical trip :)

Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate the encouragement. This will actually be the 4th child for my wife and I, we are going this time with our two DD's. But this will be the last trip for a short while with a DS on the way in late October. I have to say short while, a long while makes it seem like forever...... I will bounce in over the course of the trip to report on goals. Thank you again for the tips, this forum provides great insight and support.

Those Mickey Ice Cream bars? How can you go to WDW and not eat at least one???? I mean - you're on vacation doing all that walking - can't you splurge a little? Am I just setting myself up to fail by thinking this way?

How many Carbs DOES a Mickey Ice Cream bar have? I am going for a short trip next month, just 2 days so I will be Walking my way to losing MORE pounds!;)

A little late, but here's my 2 cents for anyone else heading to WDW during their diet...

With all the added walking, swimming and various other activities, I see no reason not to splurge a little on your vacation. I think the most successful "dieters" (those who lose and keep it off) allow for splurging on special occasions so they do NOT feel deprived. It is the feeling of deprevation that leads people back into eating their OLD way and gaining the weight back.

Here is what I am doing, for what it's worth... I am watching what I eat BEFORE Disney, so that I am at a happy weight before I leave. My happy weight is a few pounds below what I want to come back at... lol. Then, I won't overeat at Disney (can't do that in July anyways) but I will have that chocolate muffin, or crumb cake or Mickey waffle (because they WILL NOT BE HERE WHEN I GET HOME!). And, when I get home, I will NOT step on the scale until at least a few days of detoxing (lots of water, healthy food). Then I will know how I did and get back to my regularly scheduled eating... lol

If I feel that I can't have the special foods that WDW is famous for while I am there, then I will just give up... see?

So, GO, enjoy the food, walk alot and drink alot of water... and the real world will be waiting when you return (it always is!). :Pinkbounc

Which MM Ice cream bars are those though?. The ones you get in the store (or used to get )did not have that thick coating of chocolate on them like they do at the World!!?? I do not know how old that info is so who knows. I would be willing to bet that the actual chocolate coated ones have much more carbs!!!

I just went to Fitday and looked up Dove Bars and they have 27-28 carbs!!! Since the Dove bars are much closer to what the coated MMbars are this info is prob closer to the true amount!!

Hey, if those are the ones in the parks, then that's not too bad - for WW'ers, that's 3.4 points. I could have 8 in a day (and nothing else, LOL!)

I had a Mickey ice cream bar at Disneyland last night since I thought it was only 3 WW points after reading the above post. It's actually 9 points- 350 calories, 24 fat grams, less than 1 gram of fiber. Sorry I didn't note the number of carbs.

Now I need to make up 6 points! :(
