How soon can I dye my hair again? Update!(tons of free advice in here!)

I don't have a digital camera to PM you a picture. I just washed it a few times, I'm going to dry it and see if it got any lighter.

Odds are - you cant 'wash out' an ash - if anything your other color will 'wash out' leaving your green hue behind.

I'd try one of two things:

Go to Sally's purchase a small 10 volume peroxide, and ask them to help you find a 'warm toner'. Mix equal parts and leave on for 10 minutes.

Toners and 10 Vol's do not lift hair - however, it will deposit 'gold' over your 'green' neutralizing it. And - youll be shiner. Thats always nice.

OTHERWISE - Go to Ulta. Sexy Hair Concepts makes colored shampoo's that freaking ROOOOCK!!!! Harvest (something) is the one that you'll like. Again - youll stomp out your green adding lovely golden waves of grain.

The stuff at the salon is also bleach.... I work at a salon.

The stuff they put on my hair was not bleach. I asked. This was over 10 years ago though. Color was coming out. My hair was not being bleached.

But of course, I could have been lied to.

Im not trying to argue with you - but the only thing that removes color is ...bleach.

It may be called 'color remover' - but it's bleach based.

I was told that it was not bleach.

And I said that they could have lied to me in my post. Did I not??


I also found this and it says without bleach.

There are also specialty products which remove artificial pigments without bleach. One 'n Only Colorfix is a very good hair color removal product available at Folica.com. It is formulated to remove oxidative dyes, which are present in permanent hair color. Semi permanent hair color is a mixture of oxidative and direct dyes, so this product won't be as effective for semi-permanent hair color removal. And because of how it's formulated, it won't remove the natural pigment from your hair if you have regrowth.

Now, whether the without bleach part is true, I don't know.

Well, I'll jump on here and ask for some free advice.

I have waaaaay too many grays and want to stay as close to my natural color as possible, perhaps even leaving some parts alone and not dyeing them.

What color should I use? Do I need any special preparation to get the color to latch onto the gray hairs? Anything extra info I'll need?

I think my hair is actually a touch darker than it looks in this photo.

It may be called 'color remover' - but it's bleach based.

Peroxide removes color, just not as intensly as bleach does. Peroxide will only life so many levels, so stylists add bleach to "lift" to higher levels.

So you both can be right.

I don't suggest partial coloring unless you see a professional.

If you want to color the whole thing on your own, remember the hair on top is usually lighter than the hair underneath. The sun and excessive styling will lighten it. So you have to decide to go lighter or darker. I always suggest 1 shade darker (my personal opinion) because the color will fade in about a week or so anyway.

It really hard to suggest a color without seeing you in person and pictures show differently on everyone computer. I see a light golden brown in your future....

Nice suggestion. I find grays are hard to cover with shampoo because you need the follicle to open and then deposit color.

That is what mine looked like with the professional. FYI. But then he recolored it right after and it looked great. He was going to do it and leave it natural. And then he saw it and that was not natural! I have been coloring it so long I probably don't have a natural color anymore.

I am just very careful now and don't buy anything too dark. My hair is dark brown (or was anyway - my eyebrows are dark brown), but I use a medium golden brown or something like that. I learned the hard way on that one.

I would definitely let a professional do it even with those products out there to fix it.

I know I saw in a store, something that you can put on your hair to remove color. It's made for hair color mistakes. I'm not sure how well it works though.

Just a word of warning about this. A long time ago, I wanted to dye my medium brown hair a dark blond color. After the first dye job, my hair looked awful. I bought the stuff for color mistakes. After I used it, my hair looked and felt like straw. There were patches of brown and blond all over. I freaked!!! I sent my daughter to the store to buy a dark brown color. I used that and all was fine. I did not color my hair again myself for YEARS.

My hair was fine after three treatments in a short period of time though.
