How soon can I dye my hair again? Update!(tons of free advice in here!)

OK, you are mixing too many mediums and reds and blondes and stuff. At this point I'd BEG you to PLEASE go to a salon. You need to find one and get your color corrected and get your hair shaped up (read: CUT PROFESSIONALLY).

I know you're not going to listen to me, because I know you, but this is something I know a bit about. ;)

:thumbsup2 The green has something to do with metals reacting....on your head...and not in a good way. Go to a salon! They can fix it. If you don't, got to a trade secret (or a store that has knowledgeable employees and carries salon brands. They should be able to recommend a product to help at home. (Used to work for Loreal as an engineer....which includes Garnier and Redken, to name a few brands).

Maybe if I put mayo or olive oil on my hair it will help strip some of it off?

Nope. It will probably eventually de-green, but just go to a salon. Call for a color correcting consult.

When you go too dark, recoloring it isn't going to work. Trust me.

You need to have the color stripped and then redone. I have never stripped it myself, but I have gone to a salon and had them do it. I know they now have the kits for this at home.

My hair was actually kind of black with a pink tint when I did it. :scared:
I was going for dark auburn brown.

Thank goodness at least I don't work anymore. Last time I did something like this I had to go to work the next day :scared:

Try washing with baby shampoo, or clarifying shampoo. Wash a few times. I don't color my hair but have many pals who have done the same as you. Usually washing a few times will remove some of the color. Then condition the heck out of it.

I know I saw in a store, something that you can put on your hair to remove color. It's made for hair color mistakes. I'm not sure how well it works though

That stuff is way too harsh IMHO.

That will only deep condition it and make the color last longer.

OK since you have a greenish tint I would recomend getting a shampoo made to help remove chlorine from hair. Might be hard to find this time of yr.
Shampoo with that letting it sit for a few minutes, then follow up with one of the shampoos and conditioners made for grey/bleached hair. They should be purple in color. The chlorine stripping shampoo will help pull out the green deposits and some of the excess har color. The purple shampoo and conditioner will balance out any green/yellow that remains. I would keep that up for at least 5-6 shampoos, then switch to just the purple. Use the chlorine remover 1x a week, or every 6-7 shampoos.

L'Oreal makes a product called OOPS, I used it last week same problem.

It will remove as much of the dark color so you can re-dye immediately.
I have very fine hair and went from dark brown to Intense Auburn and it was just fine, no hair trouble.

Just follow the directions carefully.

Thank you everyone for the advice! Maybe I should go back to work - I seem to get myself into trouble staying home:rolleyes1

48 hours is what Loreal Recommends.

I just asked my SIL who works there..

I also had this mishap a month ago :headache: ..I did not ask her until after I recolored :)

Good luck :goodvibes

Try calling the 1-800 on the box & speak to one of the company's experts.

They may be able to tell you what you can do at home if you don't want to go to a salon and you don't want your head to explode...

Thats bleach - dont use that.

What color is your hair now - what color do you want?

Im a corrective colorer specialist.

The stuff at the salon isn't bleach. It is an actual color remover. When they removed the color, my hair was bright orange because I have been coloring my hair so long. I don't know what the over the counter stuff is though.

The stuff at the salon is also bleach.... I work at a salon.

Why did I think you were in IT?

I went to Beauty School - did that for a bit, Bartended for many years - and now do Network stuff....

BUT - I work 2 days a week at my g/f's salon, too. :thumbsup2

Okay, licensed professional here.... This is the scoop.

When you pick a color from the store that says cool or ash tones it will have a green base to it. This is best for someone who already has a lot of warm or reddish copper tones that they want to get rid of.

When you pick a color that says warm or golden, it has a red base to it. This is if you want the reddish tones in.

So, picking a color is the most important part of coloring. Take your time reading the box. Determine what your natural color is. If it's a warm brown and you want to keep that, don't pick a cooler or ash color, pick one that says golden or warm. Usually there is a color scale on the side of the box.

It's fine to re-color your hair within 24 hours. Just make sure it's fully dry from washing. If you like the tone, but it's just too dark, mix a couple tablespoons of peroxide with your shampoo, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Wash, condition and re-dry.

If you are totally unhappy with the tone, too red (warm or golden) or too ash (cool or greenish), pick a new color with appropriate tone you need to counteract what you have.

Hope that helps, but if you are totally lost, go to a quality salon.

PS - I worked in a salon for years, and still use color in a box. :)
