How "rare" is this SSR promo?

Yet another question...thanks to all for being so patient with me as I post question after question!

I am so so so interested in the current SSR deal, but I am feeling pressure (only from myself) to get it now becuase "a deal like this will never come around again."

How often does DVC offer deals like this? Is this truly an amazing, unbelieveable, once-in-a-lifetime offer OR is there something like this every year? Or only when they feel they need to boost sales? Based on economy? Any rhyme or reason?

As always, any opinions and info. are greatly appreciated.

hi,
i was not aware of any new deals.i would like to know about it.can you give me details or give me a link so i can find out, please. thank you!!

I want to know too!!!! Thanks for any info. Edited to add, I am reading about it a few posts down.

With DVC, though, if you know you're going to take an offer eventually, the soonest has always the been the best, just because you'll have saved so much money for so much longer.

There is one guarantee in this latest offer...It will be the best deal you will get from Disney, because the prices are always escalting. Often a deal like this preceeds a price increase, so I would take this deal if you are pretty sure you want to buy in. The alternative would be to buy a resale.

I agree with dianeschlicht....is it the MOST amazing offer I have ever seen...NO! When I was looking at buying SSR (before the resort opened), I was offered $78 per point. That was in Mar '04.

But...it is the best SSR price I have seen in awhile. DVC is always raising their prices. I think the ONLY exceptions to this would be (God forbid) another devastating terrorist attack or the spread and mutation of the Asian Bird Flu....then, prices might stagnate for a while.

If you are SERIOUSLY thinking about SSR, this is probably the best offer you will see. Of course, it is always a gamble....but, you don't see discounts very often unless they involve selling your points back...the extra 15% off with no strings is one of the nicest "freebies" I have seen from DVC.

I agree with what others have said. When we first bought in we could either take the cash discount or the points for that year. I think this is a really good offer. Even better than what was available for those of us on the member cruise. JMHO Annmarie

It does seem to be the best I've seen thus far. I suspect it will temporarily drive down the resale market. Also, I wonder if sales aren't as brisk for SSR. (after the excitement factor of a new resort wanes. ) If they were selling well, there would be no reason to offer such a good deal. ...just my 2 cents...

My DW and I both agree that we'd prefer to have more points at our home resort. But, there's this little obstacle called money.

My sil has been dying to buy into DVC. My brother finally said yes and they started to look at resales. They came really close to buying. Just yesterday I read about the SSR offer and I told them that even though I told them to go ahead with resales, now I want them to buy from Disney. I did the math for them for about $300 more, a SSR from Disney makes only sense.

1) Extra 12 years and newer resort obviously (he was worried about OKW being the oldest.
2) She can use her credit card for the deposit and/or purcahse so she can get the Disney rewards on her credit card (will pay off card right away).
3) She will get this years points and bank them. Dues will be pro-rated so she will pay 2 - 2 1/2 months tops.
3) No Closing Costs
4) In the system much faster and she can do what she wants

All you need is a referral from a current member - you are more than welcome to use mine :goodvibes and many other members here are willing to give their name regardless of wether we are getting a referral bonus or not. Good Luck with your decision and yes, I think this is a great deal and questioned it - are sales not moving along as they would like? Are they trying to make it harder for people to buy resales?

this offer has been the best i ever seen in the 5 plus years i been in dvc.
15 percent is amazing. i wouldnt expect it to go down, this might be the lowest price it will ever be. than again u never know. back in early sep 2001
i thought i had a great deal on my car and a low interest rate of 2.9 percent,
than sep 11 happened. if i would of waited a week i could of saved a lot.
to get back to topic if your looking into getting into dvc get a referal and save big bucks, if your thinking of adding on you know you cant go wrong.
83.30 a point plus this years points amazing

My husband and I are interested in becoming DVC members and have already talked to a Vacation Club Guide. We have also received the brochure and fee schedule for Saratoga Springs. We have been looking at the resale sites. I just read this message about a deal for Saratoga Springs for new DVC members thru Disney. Do you have to know a member? What exactly is the deal? Thanks for any info. :goodvibes

Cheryl, essentially the deal for new members requires a "referral" (of which I'd be happy to do for you as a fellow Texan!!). Beyond that there is a 150 point minimum point purchase. Points are discounted 15% right now, making each point $83.30. It's a pretty darn good deal considering the more recent offers only discounted points to $90.

Just let me know if you need a reference! I positively LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my guide, and I have no doubt she'd do a wonderful job for you if you decide to buy!

Sent you a pm. There is a 15% discount on the purchase price per point with a member referral. You will also be able to keep this year's points as well. Hope this helps. Annmarie

That's what I was thinking, sales must have slowed. They are still building, so they need to get the points sold ASAP. I wonder if the Contemporary rumor plays into this at all. Either people are waiting for that or DVC wants to get SSR sold so they can start working on the Contemporary.

Unless DVC has changed there definition of a "referral" for this promotion, chances are you don't qualify for it.

In the past, referral bonuses were only offered when a prospective member was actually...well...referred! In your case, you already know about DVC, have spoken to a salesperson and read the marketing materials. The need for a "referral" no longer exists.

IMO, it's likely that you are ineligible for the current promotion. If someone knows differently, they are welcome to chime-in.

I read something about The Contemporary before. What is the story with that? :confused3

Search the board. You'll find enough threads on the CR to keep you busy for a week.

In a nutshell, rumors of DVC coming to the CR are almost as old as DVC itself. They've recently picked up some steam because the CR is in the midst of an 18-month renovation, and there is a big chunk of existing property that hasn't been formally included in the public renovation plans.

IMO, only a few things are certain:

1. There is no construction occurring today related to DVC units at the CR.
2. If DVC is announced at the CR tomorrow, it will be years before we know important facts like room design, amenities, point price, point charts, maintenance fees, etc.
3. If DVC is announced at the CR tomorrow, it will be 2.5 - 3 years before it opens. SSR was constructed on the site of an existing resort and it still took 2.5 years from announcement to opening, and even then fewer than 50 rooms were open on Day One.

I certainly wouldn't delay a DVC purchase waiting for the CR...unless the current DVC resorts collectively hold zero appeal.
