How "rare" is this SSR promo?

Every purchase of DVC is a BIG decision. This is a great deal but only if you are ready. Good luck and let us know when to WELCOME you HOME! ;)

OP here....I am in agony over this decision...LOL. I am my own worst enemy, though. I like getting a great deal (my motto is "I never pay retail!"), but I also research everything like crazy, so I know all of the ins and outs and sometimes this makes coming to a decision so much more difficult.

I definitely realize that this is a great deal. And I'm sure that DVC in general is the right decision for me. However, I'm still not sure that it is the right deal for me. Then again, I may never be sure, so...

I will make a decision within the next few days! I have to or I will lose my mind (or what's left of it!) :)

Thanks, all, for being so patient with me and answering my questions and offering your opinions.

I remember going through the same thing a few years ago. Then I created a spreadsheet and looked at what it would cost me over the next 30 years if I continued to just stay at WDW resorts like Coranado Springs or Caribbean Beach. When I added up the hotel expense I quickly realized I was saving money by purchasing DVC and I was staying in better accommodations such as 1-BR, jacuzzi, washer/dryer in unit, full kitchen, etc. This soon became a no-brainer.

Everyone has to decide if this is a good deal for them based on their own circumstances. I can only add one final comment like many others on the DIS have said . . . I wish I purchased when I was first interested since the points cost less. Best of luck with your decision. Annmarie

I'm in the same boat. It's a good deal, but a big commitment. I'm not quite mentally 100% in yet. It's driving me nuts too. I've been up way too late at night trying to make the numbers work for me. Good luck in your decision!

If I buy an add on now, is this mean I get 120 points in June, 2006. From now till June, 2006, I can only borrow the points to use.

"A girl after my own heart!" Never paying retail, that is! I have been agonizing over it too! My DH and I have decided to take the plunge! I look at it this way -I rented points from someone this summer off ebay. I payed $1600 for 12 nights (7 OKW/5 BV PV=170pts) I felt I got a really good deal, considering if I went through Disney, it would have been over $3000. We are thinking of buying 200 pts. MF $766 right now. I figured 3% increase for 20 years would be roughly $20,571 in MF. If I figure $1600 at a 3% increase for 20 years, I'd be paying roughly $44,268. Heck, even if you figure $1600 for 20 years, it is $32,000. The cost for going through Disney, even at todays prices, without an increase, would be $68,997. (That is figuring the same time of year that we usally go) I don't know what the increase will be, but we are still going to come out ahead even with some interest on top of the price.
I am going to put ours on our new mileage card and then transfer it over to Home Equity LOC and a better rate card.
Yes, I would have liked to have had the cash, but by the time we saved up that, who knows how much pts will be. We love Disney! We always go to Disney! Why not pay into our own DVC, instead of paying someone else!?
Good Luck! From one thrifty girl to another!

Do you mean $79? That is when we initailly purchased SSR, so the $83.30 was so close to what we originally paid and the 2005 points was a great kicker!....

You are correct. My error I will correct the original post!! Thank you.

This is great, so all I have to do is call the # listed in this thread and meantion a Member's Name as a referal?? Is there any type of confirmation of your referal?? Just curious if anyone has done this and what Disney asked.

I just filled my papers out .I already had a tour (10/29 ) set up so I was in the system with no referal.
After getting the details here on the board and a referal I called my guide back and told him I wanted to do it now and not wait .He said I need a referal for this deal .
I said I have one he checked the name and phone # in the system and said congrats and told me what the deal was.
Thats all that was needed not even a question on how I know my referal or anything can's wait to go Home already booked for june and Just handed my paperwork to FED-EX.

WELCOME HOME! :cool1:

It is a good feeling when you finally make a decision. Congratulations to all the new DVC families!

Go for it. As everyone has said, this is the best deal you will probably get. It is similar to the pre-sales deals before the resort opened. At that time it was $79 per point and you got to use the year's points after the resort opened. This pretty darn close to it, and much less of a wait!

--congratulations on your decision!

The FedEx box was at the door when I can home!!! Ahhhh, the Mickey's and palm trees..... Now its a wait till April for my trip to VB thanks to my add-on.

You wanna know the secret? That has got to be one of the biggest canvas bags I have seen! :cool1: :cool1:

My guide said she doesn't ever remember DVC offering CM discounts and the fact that you get 2005 points (no selling back) and only pay 2.5 months of annual dues on those points. Everything was just too good to not take advantage of this offer.

Are they not offering CM discounts anymore? About 3 years ago, we were told it was a 15% off discount plus special financing. I was thinking of touring SSR when we go next April, but I'm not sure I like the location.

We should have bought at BCV when we had a chance.

I guess I should have said CM discounts to regular folks. I do not know if DVC still gives double incentives to actual CM's.

The SSR location I think is great! We stayed in a 1 bedroom the week before Christmas and we walked to and from DTD. Lots of places to eat. We used buses and ferry boats to get to where we wanted to go. The Spa is a nice feature (did not use it).

I think EACH DVC resort location has pros and cons. We try to stay where we think we will be hanging out the most for that particular trip.

Ahh, that makes sense! I didn't think they'd stop the discount. I know back in '03, they had double points for CM's. My mom went and checked it out to give me her opinion and told me about that CM special. Hmmmmm, I think I'll go to DL tomorrow and visit the DVC booth...

Let me know if you need a referral name.

DD and I will be @ DL in 3 weeks. How's the weather been? :sunny:

My DH and I just put down our deposit for 200 points. A good friend told me about the deal and we took advantage. I was originally looking at resale but we travel usually August or September so it'll work well for us having SSR and then booking at one of the other resorts.

Isn't that huge old box exciting!! And I had to laugh about your comment about the canvas bag :rotfl: dh said it was huge and why do they always have to give away those types of bags :teeth:

We just sent our papers back today! :cool1:

Congratulations and welcome home to everyone who has taken advantage of this offer. Isn't it great to know the DIS is here where there are so many helpful people? I know I have learned a lot from fellow DISers over the years and for "newbies" to be able to save a substantial amount of money is great! I just wish they had this offer a few weeks earlier. Annmarie :wave2:

This is a great offer! I'm seriously considering an add-on, if I can talk DH into it. :) When we bought last year a Dis board member gave us tons of info (I think I must have driven her nuts although she said it wasn't so!) and I used her as a referrer...she was surprised and it was a great way to thank her! And this is even better...
