How "rare" is this SSR promo?

I'll be honest, I was a bit upset when the deal came out because I had just done an add-on. However, when I calculated what I was getting, I then realized I had actually gotten a better deal because I also go the 2004 points. When I factored those in at $10 per point (which is about what I rented them for), then it made my per point price $80 per point.

However, let me just say that $83.30 is a heck of a deal and I seriously doubt you'd get anything better. I'm sure that when the next DVC is announced and they start selling points that there will be a "pre-sale" that has a decent price, but who knows when that will be, and where.

If you want to take advantage of the deal you need to get a referral. I have a feeling most any DVC member will gladly refer you. You can PM me or click on the Member Info link in my signature line to get info on the current deal and also get my referral info.

Please let us know if you decide to buy-in so we can Welcome you home!

How long does Disney usually run their incentives? This does not have an ending date yet and I was wondering how long Disney might honor this 15% deal? Anyone have any guesses?

Here is the info :
"Extend" the Magic of Membership

To thank you for being part of our magical community, Disney Vacation Club has created two limited-time opportunities for you to "extend" the magic.

First, you're invited to "extend" your piece of the magic by taking advantage of a limited-time 15 percent discount on your purchase of an additional Ownership Interest in Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa equal to 120 or more Vacation Points. Call your Vacation Club Guide for details.

Second, Disney Vacation Club invites you to "extend" that same discount to friends and family members who purchase a new Membership. Simply ask them to call (866) 382-3577 and provide your name to utilize this limited-time offer.

It doesn't mention a cut off or expiration date but I would get in while the geting is good if you are truly serious.
If you need a referal just send me a PM!

Like someone else mentioned sales like this usally precede a rate increase.

Thanks for trying. We are members and are looking to add-on again. My question was historically how long does Disney usually run their incentives?

We were actually in the process of buying resale when we heard of this offer. The total cost was $490 more through Disney. We make out better because the resale we were looking at did not have all of its points. So we get our points when we sign and another batch in June. Dw was quick to point out that it was her idea not to buy (last April) and wait and see. Here's to coming home soon!

Since I replied earlier to this thread - I would like to add now that I had to say Welcome Home to my brother and sil. They are brand new members. As soon as I get a chance, I will show my sil how to get on these boards and navigate them - she will probably figure it out on her own before I get there.

I am the OP and this was along the lines of what I asked originally...

How great is this deal?
How long before the "next great deal"?
ert.

Thanks to those who have put in their 2 cents.

Just trying to figure out if this is "THE" time to buy...

This is the time to buy! We added on 120 more points TODAY! When I talked to my guide she said the Dec. UY folks were too late on this deal. All the points for Dec. UY for phase 2 have been purchased and Dec. UY folks will have to wait until Disney opens phase 3.

My guide said she doesn't ever remember DVC offering CM discounts and the fact that you get 2005 points (no selling back) and only pay 2.5 months of annual dues on those points. Everything was just too good to not take advantage of this offer.

We knew we were going to add-on and there is no good time to spend $10,000 so we bit the bullet and purchased today! :cheer2:

We now have 300 OKW and 220 SSR! :cool1: DH says this is the last add-on ;)

To give a fairly simple answer....

If you want to buy-in at SSR, then YES... now is the best time to buy. IMO, the chances of any better deal coming along is pretty slim.

Can anyone tell me how the UY works? When you buy in, do you get to choose your UY? :confused3

On this particular deal, they are only selling for a June UY. My guide said something about there being a few other months available, but that it would be very difficult to do...not sure what she was getting at there...I didn't press her on it. She was clear, though, that they are selling for June.

Hope this helps.

The UY is actually kind of a "mis-speak". The word "use month" would be more appropriate. Your UY is the month that you receive your yearly allotment of points. You ideally want your UY at the beginning of your personal "travel season". For example, we like to travel in the fall/winter/early spring (WDW is just too hot in the summer for us), so an early fall UY would be good for us. The UY's that DVC has in the fall are Aug, Sept, Oct....we picked August because a really good resale contract came available. Ideally, I would've liked October.

The reason a UY is important is because you can "bank" 100% of the points you own within the first 6 months of a UY. For an August UY....that means I can bank 100% of my points until Jan 31. That means that I have six months of "worry free" travel.....i.e., any trip I take in the first six months of my UY I could "back out" of and still bank my points into the next year. For me, as of Feb 1 I am limited as to how many of my points I can bank. This makes an Aug UY "okay" for me, though because most of my points are used every December for a family trip. Any points I have left are less than half of my points allotment. By the "rules", I have until April 30th to bank 50% of my annual points allotment, and I can guarantee you that I am DONE traveling to WDW by April 30th...so, it works out well for us.

You can make many different UY's work for you...some will always be more flexible than others. The key is knowing how your particular UY works for you. There are some that could be very difficult to work with. If you like to travel during F&W fest, and the Christmas holidays, a Jan UY could be very troublesome because all the trips you would be taking would be during your 25%-0% banking periods. If, for some reason you had to cancel a trip....you would lose your points.

Many people say that UY's don't matter....that your schedule could change over the years (as to the times you like to go), and that is true to a certain point....but, I hate summer in WDW, and would rather sell my points than go during that time....so, for me that doesn't entirely hold true.

Sorry to be so wordy. ;)

I am sortof starting to understand but help me...
if we plan on going either over Spring Break or during the summer a June UY which is what they are selling now is not good. I'd want something towards the end or beginning of the year, right?!

If you tend to visit during the Spring or Summer, you are best off with a winter month UY, IMHO.

...How often does DVC offer deals like this? Is this truly an amazing, unbelieveable, once-in-a-lifetime offer OR is there something like this every year? Or only when they feel they need to boost sales? Based on economy? Any rhyme or reason?

As always, any opinions and info. are greatly appreciated.

I think it is possibly the third best deal I am aware of. The top deal was the free park passes in the early days of DVC when only OKW existed. The second best may have been the initial $79 per point for SSR ($89 less $10 developer credit). This 15% off is the third best.

Edited to correct typo.

IT's a good deal if you need more points now. Good luck to all. :Pinkbounc

Do you mean $79? That is when we initailly purchased SSR, so the $83.30 was so close to what we originally paid and the 2005 points was a great kicker!

The UY for us will always have one trip that doesn't work well because we like to use points at least 3 times per year Spring Break, Late Summer and Holiday time.

OP here....I am in agony over this decision...LOL. I am my own worst enemy, though. I like getting a great deal (my motto is "I never pay retail!"), but I also research everything like crazy, so I know all of the ins and outs and sometimes this makes coming to a decision so much more difficult.

I definitely realize that this is a great deal. And I'm sure that DVC in general is the right decision for me. However, I'm still not sure that it is the right deal for me. Then again, I may never be sure, so...

I will make a decision within the next few days! I have to or I will lose my mind (or what's left of it!) :)

Thanks, all, for being so patient with me and answering my questions and offering your opinions.
