(How popular is DVC in Your State?) St. Pop thread

Yay NJ!!! Before we purchased, I thought I only knew 1 family who were members- since then, I've found I know 4 families in my town alone who are members- and they're all very, very happy with their purchase!:thumbsup2

It would be interesting to know how the VA numbers break out between NOVA (nothern Va) & the rest of the state. NOVA is more heavily populated with a diverse population coming from all the country & world.

Not many owners in Missouri. Something like 1100, I think, and those are mostly clustered around St. Louis and Kansas City. Most people in the Ozarks just go to Branson. We're the lonely owners in our area (roughly the rural middle of nowhere). Anyone in Springfield?

Missouri ranked #28. Population listed as 5,595,000 with 1100 members. That came out to 1:5086
Do you or did you guys get a lot of smarmy timeshare deals thrown at you from Branson? The ones for Gatlinburg and the Gulf Coast are disgusting.

Wow! I just realized that I made a mistake. Alabama is 29th instead of 30th!! (Sorry, Iowa) :cool1:

Way to go NJ!!!

That would be pretty interesting to know. Virginia ranked 15th with approximately 7 million residents, and 3,000 DVC memberships. To answer your question, Maryland ranked 11th as the state population of 5.2 M also resulted in 3,000 memberships. Other neighbors, NC (20th) Tennessee (26th), and W.Va (32nd) had far fewer memberships. I'm guessing there are more DVC memberships in Northern Virginia than Southern Virginia. Of course DC, also ranked 50th, so who knows.

I'm one of the NJ owners. I also know about 12 other DVC members from NJ. 5 live in my town that I know of. Town is 1 mile wide 3 miles long.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
This is why New Jersey has it own week in WDW:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Now other state can say that.:stir: :stir: :lmao:

Currently I live in Ohio, and have for 15 years. It's a very nice state, no jokes about it being an "armpit" like my other state. However, I have found that most friends/family who want to visit us from other states, prefer to meet us in Cape May, or in WDW (imagine that:lmao: )!

So, being 18th in DVC ownership doesn't surprise me. WDW is straight down I 75. Many times am I tempted to just keep heading south instead of turning off the highway to go to work!

:offtopic: We have been to churches in Boston, and in NJ and have heard homilies about folks going to WDW and going/not going to Mass while on vacation. I've never heard WDW mentioned in a homily in Ohio. I don't have any idea why! Maybe we don't rank high enough in DVC ownership for them to be worried!

Every time I go down to Disney, it seems like every other person you meet is from New Jersey - myself included. For the life of me, aside from population density, I can't figure out why this is the case. The one thing about New Jersey is that there is no shortage of things to do:
1) New York City is minutes away for many NJ residents.
2) Philadelphia is minutes away for many others.
3) Broadway
4) Yankees, Mets, Devils, Rangers, Giants, Jets, Nets, Rutgers, minor league ball, and more
5) Beaches galore.
6) Six Flags, Mountain Creek, and other theme parks a short ride away
7) Cruise ships leave directly from Bayonne
8) Major international airports can take people anywhere they want to go

I am sure that I am missing a ton of things. While I am not surprised at ANYONE wanting to go to Disney, I am just surprised that New Jersey residents go there in such numbers.

I know what you mean. We've been to WDW several times and actually run into people we know from RI (acquaintances) who we just happen to bump into - my friend's sister and her family, a family from my sons' school, someone I used to work with, my son's baseball coach - it's freaky that with all the people visiting Disney World we'd see people from little Rhode Island.

Mickey'sApprentice - yup, we get the smarmy timeshare offers from Branson. A lot of those "stay free for two nights and we'll devil the begeezus out of you to buy our stuff" offers. We've never done it, but friends have - just to get the free stay. They said it's sort of like being held hostage while they were there. I've never figured out why the Branson timeshare folks think we'd want one. We live only 40 minutes away. But heck, I wouldn't want one if we lived in Alaska.

Thanks for responding Disflan!

Dh and I actually went to a TS presentation about 10 years ago. We only went because we knew we could not purchase for any price. It was really high pressure. I can see how people can get rooked into buying these things. The sales manager supposedly got really ticked at us when he found out that we were in no position to purchase anything.

It actually turned out to be a good educational experience. We learned alot about trading, and it actually made us feel a little more comfortable about DVC.
