DW and I were both 30 with a 6 month old DS. It's now 4 years later and we've added a DD and 50 more points as well.

I was 28 and wife was 29 (now 30/31). We paid cash, and don't have any other debts aside from her growing vet school debt... and by the way, how the heck did you work full time during vet school? Her studies alone are double a full-time job. Ugh.

No house or kids yet.

Yea, it was a tough few years. I only worked part time my first year, and pretty near full time my 2nd and 3rd year. Fourth year was all clinical so no working. I'm glad I did it though. Much better than having 100K+ in student loans. Plus it was easier to work myself to death pre kids than it is now.
Good luck to your wife. It's much more fun when your done.

We're both 26 and bought in with the same mindset as you. Our DD is 10 mos old and with 3 trips in 2009 we figured it would be a good investment. We plan on having at least one more baby in the next year or so and I can't imagine vacationing anywhere else while we have little kids. If we eventually decide we don't want to vacation there we might try trading out or just selling altogether. But while we're going frequently, we'd like to save the accommodation money.

We did also finance. My DH gets bi-yearly bonus checks though and the next one at the end of the month will pay off the majority of the DVC. We will be left with a couple thousand left financed, and that will be paid off with our tax refund. We could have waited until we had the cash in hand, but that would have been a few trips down the road and we would rather have used our points. Plus, the incentives were great when we were there in July and we just couldn't pass them up.

DH and I were both young, dumb, and stupid having bought our 150 point contract with a ton of financing and a ton of debt in 2004 when we were 24. Fortunately the profitable sale of our first home just before the market tanked and a forced job transfer South erased all our debt and left us with only a mortgage here.

I am glad we have it though - as we have enjoyed annual trips or cruises since we signed up. I do wish we had cash for an add on some days as I have been using borrowed points since day one. :)

Planning to add on points each year with bonus $$, savings and tax returns with cash when at all possible. My 5 year goal is to be able to take a 7 day Disney cruise and a 10 day vacation each year using DVC points for myself and my fiance (we are getting married next year at Wedding Pavilion ) so we basically need between 400 and 500 points...

OT, but you'd be much better off just paying cash for those Disney cruises. The points rate is a stupendous rip-off.

Congrats to you both. I however agree one hundred percent with OP as it is a better idea financially to rent your points than to use points for your cruise. We did that in 2004 and had enough "rented" cash leftover to pay for all shipboard charges and an overnight port hotel as well.

I was 34 last year when I bought in. I have 2 DS's 17 & 18 at the time and DD was 2. I sat down and added up all the money I had spent on trips over the years with DS's and realized wow I could have bought DVC. Then DS, 17, wanted AKV DVC as a graduation gift instead of a car so I jumped on board.

I too wish I had just sucked it up and bought sooner. I would have had to finance but looking back I could have paid it off a lot sooner and I wasted the money on other things that I can't even remember.

We were 44 and 45 when we married and we were 46 and 47 when we purchased our first DVC points. No kids between us, we have just the two of us. We still love Disney!

We purchased in 2004 - I was 34 and DH was 35. At the time we had a DS7(almost) and a DS5 with another on the way which was our youngest DS! The third child really sealed the deal as far as our decision to become DVC members.

I purchased in 2000 at the age of 38 knowing that my son (then 4, now almost 13) would enjoy it with his family up to 2042! It's been 9 years already, time flies by! He enjoys the resorts and bringing his friends as much as I do!

We were 50 and 54 when we bought 150 points at BWV 9 years ago. Added another 60, then 40 more at BLT this year. So why are we still always in borrowing mode?????:rotfl2:
If we added another 100 points, "maybe" we'd have enough to stay in our current UY--it just seems like we keep adding more Disney addicts to the family with more 2 BR trips every year.:yay:

I was 38 and DW was 37 and we now have a DD 2 and DS 6 months looking forward to years of memories!

Me 40, Dh 40, DS8, and DS 6 when we bought in June this year.

Debt consists of mortgage, 1 car payment, a one small cc payment not too bad i think. I would have liked to join years ago but had to sit through too many other timeshare presentations and turned us off for quite some time before we would think about DVC. We like to stay on property so it made sense for us. Plus this makes DH take a vaca, he's turning into a workaholic and doesn't like taking time off since we own our own business.

I was 35 and my DH was 38 when we bought at the end of '07. After our 1st visit to DLR as a family with my then DD (2) and DS(9mo), we knew we'd be returning to DLR many times in the future and wanted to ensure we could afford to stay on Property. We also saw it as a way to allow for visits to WDW, Disney Cruises and now Hawaii in the future.

I was 38 and DH was 42. We have DS9 and DS5. No debt other than mortgage and we bought resale with cash. Did not really know about it until 2 years ago and we bought in shortly thereafter.

In 2001 we were 31 and 32. Interesting how many "wish we'd done it sooner" comments there are. We wish that, too. Love our DVC, looking forward to many memories still to be made.
