Reading another post about financing and DVC made me wonder how old most are when they bought into DVC. It seemed like many posts from more established folks who waited to buy DVC after they were very settled with most debts payed off.
Dh and I were 30/31 when we bought in two years ago. We financed a portion of our one contract that will be paid off soon. We don't have CC debt but have a car payment, (a third child required a mini van otherwise both cars would have been payed off), and I have student loans. Although I only have about a 1/3 of the typical loan debt that many have in my field since I worked full time while I was in vet school. Of course our house we bought 6 years ago is long from being paid off.
We looked at it in the sense that our kids are young now, (6, almost 4 and 9m). so we will be going to Disney now. Why not invest in DVC rather than yearly payments to CRO. It seemed that many suggested waiting until this poster was older since "you never know what life may throw at you, so you should wait until you are older and more established". I'm not saying that I disagree, I just felt that it was a good decision for us, even though we have other payments that could have been payed off first.

Just thought it would be interesting to see when most people bought in to see if we are a rarity in DVC.

I was 44 and DH 45 when we bought into DVC. Our DD was almost 21 and DS 17. We wish we knew about DVC when they were younger, but we've already enjoyed DVC trips with them. Our DD got married in July and our DS is getting married next Saturday, so now we will look forward to eventually taking future grandchildren to WDW and staying at DVC properties! :lovestruc

Me - 56
DH - 57

We wish we had bought in 13 years years earlier, but we just couldn't get beyond the initial expense. We also thought WDW was a rare vacation for families.:rotfl:

We were 35/36 and childless when we purchased our DVC resale at OKW. We paid in cash :).

We have zero debt other than mortgage.
We paid cash.
I went to WDW several times a year from '71 - '88. My DH never went intil my mom took us 2 yrs ago.
We always thought it would be too expensive for us until we discovered DVC. Now we have APs & 2 more trips already booked for this UY!We only live an 8 hr. car ride away.

Live debt free then you can take advantage of the opportunities life hands you.

I refuse to check the box that says "440 - 45" - lol. But I bought this year and I'm 45. My kids are 8 and 11 and I think we'll be enjoying Disney trips for many years (and I split both my contracts so they won't have to fight over them after I'm gone.) I would have loved to have bought sooner but my ex never would have approved. For the record, I paid cash and have little debt other than my mortgage (which I just refinanced for 15 years.) And my kids both have college tuition plans that are completely paid off. I never would have bought DVC otherwise.

Just bought in I'm 31 DH 34. Starting with a small contract. We probably would have bought sooner if we had known earlier.:)

another over the hill buyer here:laughing:

glad i waited, otherwise it'd have been community property:rolleyes1

anyway, I paid cash too both for 1st resale & addon; in between kids going to college;).

Me- 37 and DH 38. Wish we had of done this 5 years ago when I started researching and obsessing over it. :surfweb: We have gone every year.
We also bought a small contract direct through Disney. Start small and build on.:lovestruc

Our kids were mostly grown and mostly gone before we settled into where we were vacationing regularly at WDW. (I became an addict late.:lmao:) Our WDW habit was becoming evident when we leaped in last year.

we bought last year I was 36 and DH was 38 we have a 7 year old and 21 months so we will be going for a long time.
