How often did you move home as a child?

We never moved. My mom still lives in the house I grew up in. She's been there for about 40 years.

We have moved once with our kids, about 10 minutes down the road. Only our oldest (11) remembers our old house.

At least 3x before I turned 4. After that, 7x. It was actually way less chaotic than it sounds. Ha.

We live in 8 different houses between my birth and college. Luckily they were all in the same town, so I never had to change schools. We moved each time my mom got married and then again when she got divorced!!

I switched schools 15 times.
Between parents that divorced when I was very young and a step father in the service, I was required to move at least once a year, sometimes twice.
Sometimes I went back to a previous school, but I still had to move and relearn kids I spent a year away from.

But I love to move and I have never lived Somewhere I didn’t love.

When I was 9 we moved from our starter home, 4 room ranch, to a huge house! (To my 9 yo self). Lived here til I married. rented a house my husband grew up in, his father built. Moved to our first home, lived there 25 years then bought my moms house, so back home. 4 houses in my lifetime.

Lived in the same childhood home from birth until I moved out at 18.

As far as my own kids, the oldest has moved twice, the youngest once. We moved out-of-state shortly after my older son turned two into a temporary apartment while we house hunted. Nearly a year later, we bought our current house and moved for the second time right after our second son was born. We plan to stay in this house at least until they graduate, then we’ll reassess our needs and where life should take us from there. My oldest is now four and he is starting to conflate our two prior homes. I imagine it won’t be long before he forgets them altogether and this will end up being the only childhood home he remembers. This will certainly be the only home my youngest will remember.
