how many points did you start out with....

We started with 450 (2 contracts 225 each) at BWV then realized quickly we needed more for this active family of 5. So we added 450 (2 contracts 225 each) at VWL. Unfortunately, they are different use years, but close enough so it works out for us anyway. We like to cruise and have used our points for that also. However, the DCL points have gone up so high we don't think we'll continue to use them for that. We separated the contracts so we can give them out to our kids when they have their families. Like you, we want to share family memories for many, many years to come. We plan on adding more at Saratoga in the future. That would be a great location to Downtown Disney. Anyway, interesting tally!

We started out with 190 in June 1993 and now have 265---which are still never enough!!

Kinda dragging my feet, contributing here...

Bought 160 at VWL in December, '01; then another 150 at BWV in December, '02, giving us 310. Right now, this seems fine, but I'm wondering what's gonna happen when the kids are out of the house/college and I want to spend all of January at WDW in my geezer years.

We paid cash for one contract, financed the other - I'm trying to be mature and responsible and pay off the financed contract early, but doggone, it goes against everything in my Disneyfied nature.

Somebody STOP the madness...

220 points and that is enough for us (Just because of the dues, I can't imagine having to make a car payment each month for dues! lol). We enjoy going once every 2 years for an extended period of time.

All of you that have lots of points are so fortunate! I'm so envious! ;)

Started with 150 in 2001 . . . added 100 in 2002 . . . thinking about adding 100 more . . . hmmmm

We started out with 270 and purchased two additional deeds to give us a total of 400 points. We just added on an additional 210 totaling 610 points. I am also am on my daughter’s membership which brings the total to 760. All the points are within the same use year and all of them are at OKW.

We started with 200 and added on 100. We have a 23 yr old and a 19 yr old. Keep in mind that you can bank and borrow, so many times you will either end up with extra use points or wind up in the hole wishing you had more!

What you should do is sit down and figure out what time of year you usually go. Then pick the type of room. That is the minimum number of points you need. Good luck!

We got 330 and then quickly added on another 60, all at BCV. That gives us 8 nights at BCV in a 2-bedroom at Spring Break time. If we stay at OKW we can save a few points and add an "extra" trip for a studio during the summer.

I think part of the decision is where you live. Orlando is a 2-day drive for us (I am chicken to fly and it's expensive) so once a year is about right for us, with a second trip every other year or so. If I were closer to Florida I'd need 1,000 points!

350

DH and I have made this our one and only purchase. We had originally decided that 270 at BWV was all we could afford at $80/point (before the last price increase in Dec.). However, we started looking at resales and realized that even with the closing costs, we could buy 350 points resale for the price of 270 through Disney (a 1bdr. at peak time vs. a 2 bdr.).

There are three issues with resales:
1. Generally takes about 2 months for deal to close before you can make your first ressie.
2. Financing options tend to be more limited.
3. Need to take points that have already been used, borrowed or banked into consideration to value the deal.

Many of the best DVC resales never make it to the brokers' websites. If you decide that resale might be an option for you, contact each broker with your requirements: location, number of points, and perhaps use year.

Resale owners get all the same benefits as though who buy direct from Disney. What we saved from buying resale will go towards paying our dues for the next 3 1/2 years.

Good luck!

Started up 200 BWV 1998 then 300 BCV 2002 and 160 VB 2002 we now have 660. Its the best thing we ever bought. We're going to Hawaii in 3 weeks Marriots Beach Club on Kauai 160 points for a one bed room. We will use VB for trades.

Almost bought 150 points at BWV, changed our mind. Then bought 150 points at BWV via a resale. Saved ourselves a TON of money and now they are paid for. If we would have purchased from Disney, we would have been paying the loan until 2009! I would love to buy more but my husabnd wants to go other places besides Disney too!

Betty -

"Go other places besides Disney" My daughter doesn't think there are any.

On topic though -
Started with 175 - more than we could ever need:smooth: added 150 with 3 weeks. (we announced we were going from Christmas to New Years and the number in our party increased immediately.) Am now looking at 100 points to add on at HH (lower dues and bigger buyback incentive) we usually book in the 7 month window anyhow.

Have a feeling there is more to come, I am just thinking the sooner the better as the price goes up and you get less use years, your "cost per point" rises considerably.

Just my 2 cents.

Bought 170 at BCV, then added on 45 for a total of 215 which we will use primarily in October -- 1 bdrm for a week (Choice season).

Bought 300 OKW resale which we will use primarily in the Spring (Magic season) -- 1 bdrm for a week and most likely in December for 4-5 nights in a 1 bdrm. It also gives us the option to do a week in a 2 bdrm anytime we have our college age girls with us (which we are doing in May at Vero Beach).

So a total of 515 points, planning on three trips per year, although the third trip may be elsewhere (Disneyland, Vero Beach). We don't plan on using the points outside of Disney or for DCL, but who knows!!

With others asking this question, I didn't want this to get lost since the search feature is down.

:jester:
My wife and I bought 250 points on our honeymoon May 2002. We added another 100 points this past November, giving us a total of 350. This should keep the 2 of us busy for a while.
