We started out with 600 and now have 900. All at BCV. This will give us 9 nights in October (Friday - Sunday) and 10 nights in October (Friday - Monday) in a 2 bedroom.

I started out with 230 points at OKW in 1994.

it didn't take long for me to realize I love DVC and need more points.....I have more than trip that now.....it all depends on how often you plan on going to Disney World.....I use every one of my points and am usually borrowed into my next use year...LOL.

We purchased 270 points last year & will be taking our first trip "home" this April - can't wait! We plan to travel during school vacations for the next 6 years or so and those dates usually fall into the higher point requirements, which prompted us to buy more than the minimum. When the kids are older, we can travel during the lower point requirement and stay much longer or more often.

We started with 230 at OKW in 1999.Added 70 more there six months later. Then last year added 200 pts at VB. So we have 500 total between OKW and VB.
Our points are paid for now luckily.So all we have are the dues,which are around $1800 yr.

We started w/ 170 and added 50 more before we ever used the original pts. We can afford 1 good trip a yr so no complaints here.

its just my hubby and myself no kiddies as of yet to much of kids ourselves, we started out with 210 BCV in april and went down in sept and done an add-on 140 points at the VWL so this far we have 350.i think that should do us for awhile,MAYBE .

Let's see.....We started with 450 at VWL, but purchased 150 more the very next day. When we got back from vacation, we decided to buy VB points. We were waffling on how many to buy, and we added about three times in two days. This meant we had paperwork in the mail to us that was already outdated. We ended up buying 150 pts at VB, then one week later another 100. My wife and I recently decided that we needed more points to do what are planning down the road, so we just closed on 200 more at VWL, and 50 more VB.

End Result:
1100 points with six contracts- 800 VWL, and 300 VB

WOW! In my dreams I would have 1100 points! We thought we'd start with 200-300- and HOPE that's enough! But now that my eyes have been opened, I can see that we will need more..... many, many more!

karebear1, I think 200-300 points is a very respectable amount for most families to start with.
We are in a little different situation, as my wife and I are trying to have kids, but no luck yet. We have the oppurtunity to vacation a lot because we don't have children and their school to worry about. Because we don't have little ones yet, money is not as tight as it will be when they come along. This presents a window of oppurtunity to get some major expenses paid for.

We started with 150 points purchased in August 2000. We knew that we wanted to the DCL cruise this coming summer, and when the rates came out we ended up a little bit short on points. So, our choice was to pay cash for DSD or buy a few more points. We opted for a 32 point add on at BCV as the best option for us. We have only stayed in studios so far and have used all of our points through our 2003 use year and have but 41 points left in our 2004 use year.

We started with 150 points at OKW then added an extra 50 when OKW opened the new buildings that replaced the Commodore House. Then this past year we added 100 points at Vero. We now have 300 points, but I think that there might be a resale in our near future. We are nearly empty nesters and take about half our vacations just the 2 of us. I think that starting with 200-300 points is a great place to begin. We hope to end up with about 500. Everyone is right, it is addictive!

Yes, I've heard of it....I live about 30 miles west of Cleveland. It's going to SNOW this weekend...AGAIN! Are you sure you miss it? LOL.

We started with 300 points at BWV. We found we wanted more for us and also since we often give points to my in-laws. Since they love Vero we bought 100 points there to bring our total up to 400. I think that should do us quite well.

We bought VWL while at Disney in Feb 2001. We toured and signed for 150 points, decided it was not going to be enough, went back next day and changed it to 175..... In the fall of that year we we added on another 50 before our first DVC trip....... This past summer we purchased a resale for 230 points, it is very addicitive, but I must say we do now have enough points for how often we can go......for now.......................

We just closed on 150 VWL and 50 at HH. We go home for the first time this july and August. We really like going to the beach and HH sounded good, but had a little trouble buying it site unseen. But after reading the boards I see an add for HH coming on.
