how many points did you start out with....

This is good for me to know all this- THANKS EVERYONE!!!! But, it leads me to many more questions- one that I just posted and the second I'll try to get some info on here.

1.) When you add on, do you do it for the same usage year as you already have?

2.) Say you have 150pts at OKW and 75 at BWV and you want to take a trip to and stay at BWV.... you can reserve at BWV with the 75 pts at the 11 month window, but can you use those points from OKW to reserve there at the same time, or do you have to wait for the 7 month window to use the OKW points to reserve at BWV??

We originally started with 150 at BWV then added 50 more to BWV. Last year we bought 100 at BCV. We are just a couple and this works fine for us now. It allows us to go twice a year in either a 1 bedroom or studio. We are using the points to go to Disneyland, CA. this summer.:bounce:

Oh, and all of our use years are March

You can only use the home resort points to make a 11 month out reservation. We just made a reservation for Thanksgiving at VWL, but we only had enough points between our current year and borrowing to get 6 nights. We made a reservation at OKW for the other two nights. At 7 months, we will try to add the two nights at VWL and cancel the OKW nights. But if we can't we will still have our 8 nights - 6 at VWL and 2 at OKW.

Only on add-on has a different use year and it makes it a little more complicated when making reservations.

Also, if you want to divide up your points later on, you will only be able to break them up just like you bought them. We have a 175 pt contract, 75 pt contract, 50 pt, 100pt and 100 pt. If we wanted we could do 250 and 250 but not 200, 200 and 100. You can't split up a contract. That's one reason not to purchase a big contract.

150 points.

Every other year. 2 bedroom. Low point season for about a week.

It works for us.

Thank goodness!!!! I was beginning to think I was the only one left with a 150 point contract.

We stay every year, but we stay 10 days in a studio during Adventure Season, and that works for us! (for now!;) )Truthfully I would like to add 50 more points. I think I would be happy with that.:)

I started with 150 VWL and was very happy. Then I added on 50 at BCV figuring to bank and borrow and have 150 pts to use there. So far, we haven't banked any!!! I would love more, but just can't afford it with 2 kids in college right now.

Both of our's OKW+VB have the same use year(Sept). That is one of the advantages of buying through DVC.It also makes it a little easier to keep track of. If you are buying re-sale, you have to be sort of lucky or patient to get the same use year, if available, as your original contract. :D

Started with 200 Vero Beach points. We figured we would always stay in a studio,HA! One time in a 1 bedroom and it was all down hill.:teeth: We added 130 on at VWL.Next add on is going to be Saratoga Springs!

It's just DH and I - we're childfree and plan to stay that way. We started with 150 points at VWL AND bought a resale of 250 at BWV at the same time. About six months later, we added on another 150 at BWV! So that's 550 total for us, but we're not done yet! For now we take trips on our own (always a one-bedroom) and have taken friends, MIL and nephews (used a 2-bedroom each time). Eventually we want enough points to stay 4-6 weeks at WDW every January/February!

All ours are the same use year, which makes it VERY easy to keep track of. In fact, the two BWV contracts are treated in Disney's computer as one big contract. Were we ever to sell one or both, they'd still be considered two, but as far as banking, borrowing and reservations go, they're treated as one lump sum of BWV points.

Started with 180 at OKW,added 25 shortly afterwards. Then Added 72 at VWL. Just added 75 at BCV. I'd actually like to reduce OKW and increase the others, but so far I haven't run into problems. I don't think I'll be adding anytime soon as I decided $100.00 a month in dues was my limit. For 2003 I'm at $103.00 per month.

I started with the BCV presale with 300. That march I took a cash trip to WVL and checked out the BCV construction, I was in love with the resort so I added on another 100. We visited BCV in aug/sept and toured the BWV and loved the action there so I am attempting a resale add on at BWV for 60 pts, still waiting to see if Disney bought it back.

Ideally, I would like a resale at BWV for another 90 points to make it and even 150 but that will have to wait another few years. we are spent up after this first resale. Maybe I should get on the disney wait list so I can just be notified when the same use year is available.

We started with 150 at OKW in 2000, then added another 60 OKW points two months later and now working on adding another 50 at BCV. :D Believe it or not, we'll be going home for our first time this April (yeah!! can't wait!!) to BCV, then OKW in late 2004.

We started with 232 at OKW. About a week after closing imagine my dh's surprise when I started making my case for a small add on at BCV. :D We added 70 at BCV in May. I don't think I could talk dh into any more points although after staying at BCV he was glad we had a few points there. I like where our dues are with the points we have. Good luck with your purchase. We are so happy to have joined DVC!:D

Started out with 300points at VWL in Dec 2001. Bought a resale at OKW 200pts in Aug 2002. Total at present 500pts.
However we are toying with the idea of buying another add on this time to BWV for 150pt or so - then I think we will be done;)

Purchased 270 points in June '02 and added 30 more points in October '02. All points are at BCV and haven't been "home" yet but keep thinking . . . another 50 points would be good! Shhh don't tell DH! ;)

We started with 230 pts at BWV in 96, added 80 pts at VB. We then added 100 pts ea year at BWV until they sold out. We are at 610, all in the same use year.
Good thing BWV sold out or we 'd still be adding! Not that BCV isn't tempting...Deb

Thought you might be interested to know I've done some tallying on this thread and these are the results:

4 people own between 100-199pts.
10 " " 200-299 pts
12 " " 300-399pts.
6 " " 400-499 pts.
5 " " 500-599 pts.
2 " " 600-699 pts.
1 " " 700-799 pts.
2 " " 800-850 pts.
1 " " 900-999 pts
2 " " over 100 pts.
A total of 45 people answered my question - and THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! It has helped me immeasurably in determining that I will probably need somewhere in the 250-300 pt range- at least for now!!!

400 points in total.

We started with 300 BCV pre-sale points. On our first trip, we made the mistake of staying in a 2 br and now we can't go back. We did a 100 point add-on while we were down there. This gives us 6 nights in October (Food and Wine Festival) and 5 nights in May (Flower Show) in a 2 BR. We have enough room to bring our babysitter as well as have one of my Floridian relatives stop by for a night or too... or down the road bring a friend or a kid's friend. For us, the 2 BR really makes it feel like a vacation home and is very relaxing although real Disney addicts would probably put a family of 4 in a studio and stay I don't know how many nights!

It's easier that way, but you don't have to. Both of our contracts were bought on the resale market. The OKW one has a use year of September and the BWV one has a use year of August.
