hi, sorry, i hope this is not too confusing. i didn't set up my first poll very carefully and there were a bunch of mistakes... so i created a new poll that better reflects the various Minimum Initial Purchase amounts that DVC had set over the years. again, this poll was inspired by DisneyBill's "How many points for 1st time buyers?" thread.

btw, i'm still not 100% sure if the figures i have are accurate. if anyone is wondering where i got them from, i found the info in this old thread: Want to Piece Together a Price History?

anyway, if everyone could please vote again on this new poll, i'd appreciate it!
remember to please vote for only the number of points you initially purchased in order to join DVC (this would probably be your Master Contract). don't count any add-ons.

thanks! looking forward to seeing the results...

We did the math and decided that for us we needed 400, so we started the paperwork while sailing on the Magic just before last Christmas. Only two weeks until we get to go home! :p

We started off with 150 (the minimum) because that was all I could talk DH into. Also, we didn't know how often we'd be going. But as with most people, when they purchase points, they start taking more trips. So, we added on 100 points, then anothe 100 points. We now have 350, which is probably about right for us.

Voted again and stuck with the master contract definition this time even though we added on 50 when we brought the signed papers for our 270 - talking about addonitis

thanks

We were planning on 250, but then we bumped it up to 300. I guess we were bitten by the Addonitis Bug early! ::yes::

I don't know how in the world we came up with 210 points as a starter at BWV.... and I remember spending hours in front of a spreadsheet working that.

Oh well.... We got it all straightened out a couple of years later with our send 210 point add-on at VWL :teeth:

We started with a 150 pts at BWV because that was all that we could afford at the time. Now we have done 2 more add-ons for a total of 324 pts, 150 pts at BWV and 174 pts at HH. We are looking to add 50 pts at BWV, we are willing to wait it out and see if we are lucky enough to get them; otherwise, we will live with what we have! Either way, not too shabby...

We started with 300. A middle of the road # for us with 5 kids. I couldn't justify more initially even though prices were low. (Turns out it was before the stock market dropped out and overall it was a better "investment" than most stocks at the time.)

If we end up liking the HH resort we may buy more -- to use at HH and at WDW. (Although we know some condos in St. Augustine that we love, too. They're not time share -- just rental.) We'll see. For now, though, we pay for a weekend night if we need an extra.

I started out with 175 BWV points, and was SOOO excited to have them! :hyper:

Then I caught "addon-itis", and now have 250 BWV and 125 BCV points. Total of 375. And I'm still SOOO excited to have them! :teeth:

We purchased 230 in January, 2004. Since then have added on 3 times and now have 600 pts all at OKW:D

We purchased 150 in 9/03. We will need to add more points in the next few years. The deciding factor was how many points we could afford to purchase with cash. We didn't want to pay any interest, and DH felt as though he would enjoy using the points more if we owned them free and clear.pirate:

My wife, after spending the entire night going over the materials from our guide, persuaded me that 444 was the "perfect" number for our family. Since the points have gone up susbstantially since our purchase at $72 pp, we have also "saved" by not having to add on since that time.

:jester:

We started with 200 BCV in August 2003; added on 120 BCV via resale in November 2003; now sweating out ROFR on 220 BWV resale. I've promised we will stop at this 540 level. Love both BCV and BWV, so 320/220 respectively will get us into SAB in July and the much-coveted early December BWV Standard Views!

Cheers,

Our first purchase was for two OKW resale contracts one was 200 points the other was 230 points... We knew we would want a two bedroom (even with the two kids, now three, but who knew then that a third would be in the picture)

We also wanted two smaller contracts, for better resale vaule (yeah right, like we are selling) and to divide amoungst the kiddies....

We have added on 3 times since then, 170 BCV 270 BWV and 130 more BCV.

Isn't it interesting to see the minimum points to buy in over the years? Do you think now that the price is going up that, eventually, they will decrease the minimum buy-in amount again? It seems WDW has tried to keep it around $10,000 (and, yes, I did not do any exact calculations).

Started with 190 pts. Then added on 85 at HHI, and then 100 more at BWV for a total of: 290 BWV, 85 HHI.

Gotta love those add-ons!!

Deerh

We initially purchased 300. This was suggested to us by our Guide and after sitting and playing with the numbers this was fine for us.

We started out with and still only have 231. We are on the prowl for a 100 pt. add-on at OKW. We have given a few of the resale companies a heads-up to call us when one comes in. I feel we will never have enough.

We started out with 230 pts at BWV in 1999.

In August 2002, we added 100 pts at VB while cruidsing on the Magic and in October 2003, we added 100 at SSR.

Still not enough for me!!
