I was just sitting here thinking how we come here with our questions and comments and observations, but I only physically know one other family who owns DVC, and we aren't really friends....more acquaintances than anything else.
I know none. Most people over here in the UK have never heard of DVC, even people who have been a few times. That 'best kept secret' is kept too well! When I've asked, they seem to think that the stands in the parks are advertising the hotels.
That's our experience too. We know many people who have been to WDW but none are DVC members. When we told people last year we'd bought DVC points they all gave us blank looks.
I have met a ton of people over the last 14/15 years. People in kids's school, kids' activities, workplace, while on vacation. We have friends, family members and family members/friends of friends, etc. who are also DVC members.
Just found out today that someone I run into (a customer) here and there is also a BCV member. She is also a Disboard poster -
I saw her at BCV last October and tried to get her attention. I saw her today - and she told me she owns at BCV!!!! Love meeting other DVC members and chatting with them.
My friend was a member. She invited me to join her on a weekend with a group of women from an AOL Chatroom in 1999. We stayed with 2 others in an OKW 2 bedroom. That's when I fell in love with DVC! I bought 6 months later. We are still friends with many of the women we met that weekend and frequently vacation with some.
I work with 2 other members. That's it. Of course, I've met a ton of members there and on cruises. But personally, only 2 others. Both are long time members.
I have met many DVC members through Disboard Meets, and at least 5 are people I consider good friends.
However, DH has a cousin who with his wife and family have been DVC members since 1992! DH is not much for communicating with extended family, so it's only been 2 years or so that we have been aware of each other. This relationship has been great! They love Disney and the Jersey shore as much as I do, and I have been so very happy knowing this!
I have met up with quite a few DVC DISers at WDW after making a connection on these boards. Every single one of them has been just as kind and friendly in person as online. DIS members have added a lot to the value of my DVC membership and to my life. Thanks, DIS members!
My husband and I know a few people through our work, school, and church who own....maybe 5 or 6 families, or so? Something like that. It's always the center of our conversations when we see each other.
Although we have casually met other members in the parks, personally, I only know of 2 other families. Many of my friends prefer the amenities of the moderate resorts.
A former co-worker of mine used to be a DVC member (he sold out when his kids got older). I'll never forget being at a client function with him, his wife, and my DH. I was pregnant, but not telling anyone yet. His wife was totally trying to get us to buy into DVC. "If you have kids you've got to do it!" DH and I just looked at each other silently, and I knew that he had officially won his argument. It was only a matter of time.
brother-in-law - their experience motivated us to consider DVC.
co-worker - I am currently an associate on her account and help her use her points!
co-worker - he and his wife are obsessed with Disney and give us good ideas of fun new things to do.
business associate - just met up with him at MK in December, since we knew we were both going to be there. His parents are actually the DVC owners, but he and his family frequently travel with them.
Friend from college - it's always fun to watch her and her family enjoy their WDW/DVC trips on FB, and vice versa.
