I am a stay at home mom with 5 little ones ages 9 and under. I own my own camper and we love to go to Ft. W. In July of this year I stayed 3 weeks. We have annual passes and eat at the camper 98% of the time. Next summer I am probably going to stay 4 to 6 weeks. Annual pass rates make it about 300.00 a week. I can't think of any other place that has so much to offer that is pretty much included in the price and keeps the kids busy. I tell people how long I stay and they look at me as if I have a third eye! Is this selfish or am I right in thinking my children will have memories that will last a life time. My husband does not mind us staying that long (house is quieter:p ) Do I need to cut back? I am a Disney holic and do not wish to seek a 12 step program for my disease and am in the process of making 5 happy little holics out of my kids. What is the longest you have camped at Ft W?

Honey, go for it!

The longest we've stayed (so far) is not quite 2 weeks. I'd love to stay longer and one of these days I will.

You are right--they are making some super memories of special times!

We stayed for 2 weeks in Aug 2003 and 2 weeks in July 2004. That makes 4 weeks in one year. We would do it every year, but it is a long haul from Vermont. If you can afford it and the kids enjoy it and watching 5 of them by yourself doesn't drive you insane (I had 5 at home all summer under the age of 9) I would definately go for it.

I think it's awesome! Think of the memories the kids will have. I would live there if I could so 3-6 weeks would be a dream come true for me.

We have regularly stayed for at least 3 weeks at a time. Our next trip is for 24 days. Our longest stay was 6 weeks, and I have to say, I was actually looking forward to going home. That said, there is no other place I would rather camp. It is not about the parks so much for us, but about enjoying the nice weather in a great campground. We have found over the years that we are actually "short-termers" compared to some of the campers. We regularly run into folks that stay for 2-3 months at a time in the winter! So, I say that as long as you still enjoy it, then by all means keep coming back to FW!

If my sanity could stand it I would love to stay longer than 1 week; and I only have 3 little ones and my DH goes w/ me! Don't know how you do it by yourself!! AND, in the HOT summer???!! I have mentioned to DH that if I am ever homeschooling all kids (I only hs one now) then I would want to go in off season (when crowds are low and weather is not scorching) for a couple of months. He would tow us down then come back and get us; I won't pull our 35'tt. I don't think staying for extended periods is selfish if your husband doesn't mind; he is at work most of the time probably anyway (I know mine is).

Well, I hope you can get annual pass rates for next summer. So far, the campsites have been excluded from all Discounts for Oct-Dec.

I hope they don't continue that through next year.

Carol

We stay 2 weeks ... I hope your DH comes down to join you for part of your stay!

We generally stay 12 nights, next year 14 nights, I am really looking forward to it.

We stay for 10 days and it is not long enough! Next time we want to stay at least 2 or 3 weeks.

I basically grew up at FW. We camped there all the time and I have terrific memories. I remember when they first opened, we woke one morning to find a deer and her newborn fawn outside our camper. We didn't have a lot of money so we didn't go to the parks much but I never minded. There is so much to do. In those days you could ride the train around the campground then later there was a tram we kids would just get on and ride around in the open air. Those were very special times. Now my favorite thing is to go with my parents and my children. It is a wonderful place.

You are doing something very special for you children!
