How long can you carry over unused points?

You can bank points into the next use year within the banking deadlines. Banked points MUST be used in the year they are banked into though.

so lets say I have 150 points... and I do a 118 point the first year (32 left over) and a 132 pointer the next year (18 + 32 left over = 50 points). What happens to the 32 points carried over from the first year? They are gone?

You have to contact MS to bank the leftover 32 into the next UY. Then, you should use those 32 towards the next year's reservation first, then use from the new 150 and any leftover after that - bank to the following year. You must bank by the guidelines, because at certain times during your UY, only x amount of points are bankable. Once banked, they cannot come back or be borrowed into the current year. And if you do not use banked points by the end of the year they are banked into, they would be lost. And of course, if you forget to bank them, or wait too late into the UY - they would be lost unless you are able to rent them / use them by the end of the UY.

If you bank 32 points into the next year, those should be the first points used for your reservation in the next year. Example:

2005 points: 118 used (all 2005); 32 banked into 2006
2006 points: 132 used (32 banked from '05 + 100 from '06); 50 points remaining to be used or banked into '07.

Hmmm. Y...e...s...technically, they're gone. But here's how it works. The first year, you bank 32. The next year, you make a 132 point ressie. The first 32 points of that are automatically the 32 you banked, so you're only using 100 points from that second year's allotment. The 32 are gone, but now you have 50 current year points available for banking.

You should be aware, though, that there are banking deadlines by which you must act. You can bank up to 100% of your points at any time during the first six months of your use year, up a cumulative total of 50% by the end of the ninth month, and up to 25% cumulative by the end of the tenth month. Therefore, if you banked half your points at the six-month cutoff, you'd be done banking for the year.

Let's just start with a 2005 Use Year and use your numbers:

2005 - Receive 150 points, use 118, bank 32 into UY 2006

2006 - Receive 150 points, + have 32 banked for a total of 182 points. You make a reservation using 132 points. This reservation uses all 32 of your banked points, and 100 of your regular points. This leaves you with 50 regular 2006 points. You can bank all 50 points into 2007.

You cannot bank points twice. But you use the banked points first when you make a reservation, leaving all the excess points as regular allocation points so they can be banked to the next year.

MS will automatically use banked points first for any reservation you make, but it's always a good idea to verify they are doing that at the time of your call.

sorry! what do you mean by - You cannot bank points twice.
If you have 150 points and you bank them from 2005 to 2006 UY, then you must use them the next year or you lose them.

So, I bank my 150 2005 points. If I use 150 in mu 2006 UY, that will use the banked 2005 points first. I can bank my 2006 points into 2007.

However, if I did not use the 150 points in 2006, I could not re-bank them and would lose them.
