The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

We just had our third stay at VDH in a preferred studio. We continue to love it, and the Palm Breeze Bar is really turning out to be a great addition. Bringing to-go cocktails up to the room is great. We still don’t mind the walk to the main entrance, and the monorail was great to pop back to the hotel and then back to the park one evening when we needed a break.
Two issues we had - when we arrived, the couch cushion on the pullout had a button missing and just metal in its place - which could have scratched someone or ripped clothing. Engineering came by and when they flipped the couch cushion, there were stains on the other side. However, they were able to replace it while we went out to dinner and left a nice note. If they couldn’t replace it, the front desk was offering to move us to another room.
The other issue was with the Keurig machine. It just wouldn’t work right when I filled it enough for the coffee cups, and when I added more water it would almost overfill the mug and I’d have to carefully dump some out so as not to make a mess. I ended up not reporting it, but we haven’t had the issue before.
Final note - the welcome home center was a nice visit while in DCA and the rep told me (in her attempt to get us to buy more points) that VDH is their best selling resort and we should buy before they sell out. I find it hard to believe they are that close to selling out, but it is the only option on the West Coast (outside of Aulani). Our 5-year-old son loved the magic door they have which shows off different resorts. Both the rep in the VDH lobby and at the welcome home center loaded us up with lots of swag.

Wait a minute…. I had that happen to me at Aulani and WDW and though it might be my sunscreen….. now you have me wondering….
It’s a mystery that I really wish I knew the answer to. We have a trip back here in August and I’m for sure bringing my own stuff in hopes that it doesn’t happen again. I had mentioned this in a thread here in DIS awhile back and some people were adamant that it’s a heat rash. I don’t think that’s it. I get it on the sides of my neck and around my collar bone. I’d think heat rash would be where there is friction.

😂😂. It’s so crazy. It’s kind of like hives. It’s no fun. So I’m taking Benadryl and I am even more tired than normal after these park days.

Depending on where it is, maybe it’s “exercise-induced vasculitis” also known as Disney rash - search the forums for past discussions.

The thing is that I’ve never had it happen at Disneyland or any other time when exercising inside or outside…. I’m going to try buying my own soap for my next trip to see what happens….
If you use the lotion too, bring your own. I’ve brought my own shampoo and body wash for years when traveling but used whatever lotion a hotel provided. It took several visits for me to realize it wasn’t sun and wind but H2O lotion that dried and irritated my hands so much when I was at WDW.

I spent a fantastic five nights in a Garden studio last week (is it wrong that I think I always want to only stay in the Garden building?) and was disappointed to see that they didn’t have the live music by the DVC pool during the day like they did last September. However, painful transient tax bill aside, VDH remains one of my absolute favourite DVC resorts of all time. And the walk still doesn’t seem bad, even at 1:30am after Star Wars Nite 😆

I can't believe I still haven't seen those rooms. I do such short stays and I am always so busy. Do you access them from the ground floor of the tower? I haven't ever gone beyond the elevators, but I see people walking back there sometimes.

The two story, detached from the tower, back of the palette pool area. There are stairs out back too. (Or can use tower elevators). Two gas bbq’s back there as well.

I always use the little path that goes beside the tower and then stairs up and down. Never even need to enter the tower :)
