We are headed down to SSR April 15th, and was wondering if anyone had any opnions about the Turf Club?

We've eaten both lunch and dinner there and liked it. My sons really liked the billiard room on the way in and they played pool after dinner. It's a nice restaurant and our Dec. lunch was very good-burgers and sandwiches. Don't forget that if you are a DVC member there is a 10% discount with your card.

Good steak. DH thought the Roast Chicken was really good.

We love the turf club!
We have been there twice and ate way to much both times. Although some complain about the lack of theme, we actually like it because of it's warm, laid back atmosphere. It is a small restaurant and not packed to the gills like some on site places. The staff actually have time to chat and be friendly. :thumbsup2

We ate there twice and the staff is very nice, I thought the salmon salad was very good.

Thanks for all of your comments. We are staying there this July as as first time DVC owners. I am really excited now......actually even more excited after reading your comments.:thumbsup2

I was glad to read this too.

We'll have our 1st stay at SSR in May & I am so excited I'm about to burst!!

We enjoyed our meal there last December. Nice presentation and a fairly quiet place too.

Loved it! Good food, quiet atmosphere. There is a nice place to eat, under a covered porch outside, looking at the water.

DW and I ate at Turf Club for Dinner just after New Years. We loved it. Food was very good (steak and caesar salad...yum). Service was excellent. They were training a new server in our section so we ended up with extra attention (it was all good). Really liked the size, theme and atmosphere. Laid back and casual. Too cold to be out on the patio but would be great to sit out there overlooking the water in warmer weather. Love that 10% DVC discount!

We ate dinner at the Turf Club this week and were underimpressed. We arrived at 4:55pm for a 5:00pm ADR. Nobody was in front of us and the entire restaurant had only 3-4 families seated.

Our waitresses was exceptional but the hostess basically ignored us for almost 10 minutes. The food was good but not exceptional. It took 40 minutes for our entree to arrive with a 25% full restaurant (i.e. it was not busy!). My steak came as medium rare when I ordered it medium well. The waitress saw it and immediately took it back. The rest of the family was done with dessert when my entree was returned to me. It was the original steak and signature potato dish and it looked very disgusting. I had the crab topping on the steak and it was crusty from the additional cooking. The potatoes were the same ones originally presented to me because I could see where I had taken a couple of bites.

I politely refused it because 1) it was disgusting and 2) I wasn't going to make my 4 yr old DGD and family sit there while I ate it.

The waitress immediately offered to take it off the bill and that was fine with me. The manage came over 10 minutes later (it took 15 minutes to get the bill) and didn't really say much else.

Sorry I cannot support the other posts. Even with the steak problem, the rest of the food did not impress us.

Staying at SSR for 2 weeks we ate at the Turf Club numerous times. Over all we like it very much.

Personally my favorite is the Penne Pasta with Shrimp, I can hardly wait until next January when we go back. :)

We tried most of the items on the menu. The mussels have a delicious sauce, I even dipped the garlic bread sticks in it. The salad that came with the crab cakes was very good. The steak was great. None of us are big fans of the Turf Club potatoes (scallop potatoes), we'd really like to see a baked potato and mashed potato option.

Now about the theming, it's not 'disney' themed by any means, but I think it has it's own quiet upscale country stables atmosphere, that we quite enjoy. The seating is comfortable. We find it very relaxing.

The service was excellent. Took our picture as a group. Friendly. Professional. We left a jacket behind and our servier tried to find us.

There is a wonderful outdoor patio. I had eaten on the same patio the year before the Turf Club was there. A nice place to enjoy the weather and watch the boats on the canal.

My sister posted some of our food pics here.

We ate dinner there in February. Overall, I would say that the food was good (not exceptional) and the atmosphere is very pleasant. the billard room is very relaxing and casual. In our particular case, our server was exceptionally friendly, though exceptionally slow. she said it was because of problems in the kitchen. she ended up giving us free dessert.. Overall I would say it is OK, not the best and certainly not the worst. I would not hesitate to go there again.

We ate there twice during our last trip in March. My DD3 loved the Horse Races that they stage for the kids. (So much so, that she was the catalyst for the race the second night that we ate there.)

She also liked the presentation of the ice cream sundae there better than any of the other restaurants we went to. You "assemble" it yourself.

I'm so glad to hear this! We have a reservation there in May! Can't wait!!

A theme of these replies seems to be "quiet."

If that's the case, I'm assuming ADR's wouldn't be needed for a romantic dinner in early May?? We're just not sure of the exact day, so I'd like to just make arrangements once we get there. Any thoughts? Thanks!

We made same day ADRs twice - September and January. No problems.

We walked in without ADRs in February. I had the mussels which were great. My friend had the crabcake bites which she loved. She had the salmon salad and I had the steak salad, both were excellent.
