We have never stayed off site before. Just curious.

We are leaving Sunday for 8 nights at WL. This will be our 3rd trip together (wife and I - Honeymoon, 5 year anniv. 10 year anniv.) I wouldn't go without staying on property. It is part of the experience and I can't imagine going without staying there.

Staying onsite is part of the majic. :Pinkbounc

I could never stay off site. Being at a Disney Resort means you never leave the magic. Everything is at your fingertips, everything is themed and gorgeous, the staff is wonderful, you can't have a bad meal (even a quick grab on the go). I always look forward to staying at a disney hotel and picking out which new one for us to try. :teeth:

I also wouldn't think of staying off-site. We've always stayed on-site, because we want toe whole Disney experience. We don't want to stay outside WDW and "go" to WDW...we want to be IN WDW the whole time!

I would never stay off site unless I had no choice- like I was broke and a friend was offering to let me stay free w/her offsite.

Very. I wouldn't go if I couldn't stay onsite. I like not having to drive, I like being able to buy things in the parks and picking them up at my resort the next day, I like being dropped off and picked up right outside the gates of the parks and not having to worry about where I left the darn car and more importantly if I'm going to spend the kind of money I spend to go to Disney I want to be in Disney even in the middle of the night. At Sports I got up in the middle of the night and peaked out my window and saw Goofy standing in the middle of the pool, at WL I went out onto my balcony in the middle of the night and saw the rocks and the waterfall and the pool. I could maybe see a pool from my room at an offsite place but I can guarantee you Goofy isn't going to be standing in the middle of it nor is it going to be as beautiful as the pool at WL.There is nothing like knowing you're right there in the middle of everything 24 hours a day.

We used to stay off-property when I was a kid & my parents were paying.

When DH & I started going together in 1996, we stayed onsite & have never stayed offsite since.

Well I kind of take that back. DH had a convention in Orlando 2 years ago & he took us. We had to stay at an offsite hotel for his company to pay for it. It was a lovely hotel. Real luxery. And we did go to the parks in the evening after he was done with work.

But staying offsite was not near as nice as staying onproperty. And even then, as soon as DH's work obligation was over, we moved to the POFQ for our "vacation portion" of the trip.

Staying onsite really is more magical to us. I love that we don't need a car & just take the Disney Bus where ever we want. I love being able to charge to the room. Sending packages back to the hotel is SUCH a plus, especially when traveling with a young child.

All in all, we love Disney hotels & dont think we will ever stay offsite (unless DH has another convention or something). :goodvibes

I've only stayed onsite and always enjoy being close to everything magical. BUT I would stay offsite, maybe a split stay of on- and offsite. I would try it!

I will NEVER stay offsite. This year we spent Thanksgiving in Alabama with hubby's family. We decided to come into Disney a day early. We were not checking in until Sunday so we found a place 2 miles from DTD gate area. Thought it would be good, its not that far we can do some shopping or even go to a park.

Well let me tell you we felt like we were MILES away even though it was only 2. Hubby and I decided we would NEVER stay offsite beause we felt so far away, the magic was just not there and what a hassle to drive there and back.

We would stay offsite if we were coming in a day early again and it was later in the evening where we wouldn't want to go to the parks anyway. Other than that, no way.

It's extremely important to us. :goodvibes

We had to stay off site once, it was for a baseball tournament. The whole team was at a "dive cheap hotel" just minutes from the parks. Midway through the week my husband was ready to move just our family to onsite, he had enough. We didn't move, we couldn't, the entire team was at the same site. It was a pain going to the parks off site -- the parking lots, the crowds of people leaving all at the same time. It was a horrible experience. Since that trip we have always stayed on property! It is just so much more convenient and no hassel getting to the parking lots, fighting the traffic etc. Kathy

New here but I'll jump in. We have only stayed onsite once at a Value.Other time was at a timeshare resort. To me it does not make a difference. We used our car at the value resort becaue the bus was too annoying to wait for and with small kids not comvenient. THe food at the food court was not the best and it was a hassle being in a small room with small children. Our trip at a timeshare was much different. We used our car as well but had lots of space for the kids. We also had the luxury of a full kitchen large refrigerator and washer dryer. So I guess unless I was to stay at a DVC or a deluxe onsite is not too magical for me.

Part of the MAGIC, in my mind, is being catered to... waited on.... driven everywhere... not having to worry about where I'm parked, getting lost, etc...

Another plus is the ability to take a break in the middle of the day for naps, pool time....and easily hop back to a park.

Wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else. My new goal is to get to the point that I can afford a DELUXE resort... Contemporary is on my list.... :flower:

I'll only stay onsite. If for some reason (can't imagine what) I would have to stay offsite, I wouldn't go. I love all the different WDW resorts and like using the WDW transportation. I would not want the hassle of driving to the parks, paying to park, and then trying to find my car in those huge parking lots at the end of the day.

The only time we stayed offsite was during our honeymoon in 1987 and that's because we didn't know any better. The magic starts the minute you start seeing those purple signs and the sign that says "Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge" or whatever the Disney resort is. We wouldn't trade that feeling for anything. :earsgirl:
