Chef Mickeys

We stayed at the Contemporary during a prior visit and found Chef Mickey's was better for dinner particularly with small children. When we walked by around breakfast time most days was always a lot more crowded and longer lines with people apparently getting up early to eat and race off to the park. Dinner seemed a lot more leisurely to us.

Where you are seated didn't make any difference in the character visits. Unless something has changed, they always rotate from table to table so as not to miss anyone. We generally don't decide where to eat based on any online restaurant reviews. Some people seem to complain about everything or it becomes a game to see who can post the worst review. If someplace runs out of breadsticks which seems rather trivial, they use that as a reason to bash the entire restaurant which doesn't make a lot of sense.

Where you sit dictates which character you do the dance party with and I’ve had a child who wanted to do a dance party with a certain character and the character attendant was extremely rude to my child and I about her wanting to join that dance party…………after the hostess who said us wait it was fine. After I explained that to her and she said my kid can join the (very small) dance party it was over. We were about to leave but ended up staying an entire cycle later until the next dance party so my kid can do a proper one.

I’ve never understood people who spend hundreds for breakfast just to race to the park and be on a timer.

Ate there once years ago and saw birds perched above the buffet :crazy2:. They can get in because of the monorail. That moved Chef Mickey's to my never again list.

It's common for birds to get into restaurants? I would certainly hope not considering the amount of disease they carry. I don't know why you're beating the Chef Mickey drum so hard, people are allowed to dislike it.
“Places like that”. Chef mickeys is located in a pretty unique place that is much more than just chef mickeys. There are plenty of reasons one could dislike chef mickeys but this is just one of the most bizarre reasons. A lot of food and drinks at Disney are kept outside…….the same outside that birds live in.

You can dislike it all you want, but just cause a bird gets into an absolutely massive unique area doesn’t somehow make chef mickeys unsanitary.

Have you never eaten a dinner/meal outside? Fear of extremely unlikely consequences potentially possible from eating outdoors or where birds may have access (chef mickeys) isn’t going to be part of my decision process. But to each their own

If neither of you can see the difference between birds sitting above a buffet line in a restaurant and sitting at a picnic table outside nothing I say will convince you otherwise.

I'll just side with the law on this one:

CHAPTER 64E-11 FOOD HYGIENE

(8) Live birds and animals – No live birds or animals except for crustacea, shellfish and fish in aquariums shall be allowed in a food service establishment, in vehicles used for transporting food or in any other area or facility used to conduct food service operations; except as provided under Section 413.08, F.S., and, further provided, that live birds may be present in food service areas where adequate engineering controls of the ventilation system will prevent contamination of the facility, employees, or consumers.

This is from the law that you believe sides with you………“further provided, that live birds may be present in food service areas where adequate engineering controls of the ventilation system will prevent contamination of the facility, employees, or consumers.”

I’m pretty sure the contemporary has adequate engineering controls of the ventilation system that it will prevent contamination. Plus all the food areas are covered by glass and it’s all watched. The contemporary is one of the largest spaces like that. Plus the Hyatt’s all have a bird like a parrot in the Orlando in the same area that they serve drinks and stuff. I mean just think about it this way, if they have a goddam monorail just casually zoom through that area and that doesn’t cause any sanitation issues, I’m sure they also considered a few stray birds coming in every once in a while.
You know that cruise ships also have these issues when birds come on board prior to them leaving ports and then are stuck on board

No amount of open air can combat direct contact of bird droppings, dander, and feathers. If a bird got into a buffet restaurant on a cruise ship it would be removed, not allowed to hang out and contaminate food as per protocol. I have family in the restaurant industry and they have been trained and certified on sanitation protocols. You can enjoy your bird buffet, I'll be dining elsewhere and anyone else who chooses to do so has that right as well.

You seriously are arguing that a bird will **** on the food and no one will see or do anything? The same odds of what you are suggesting are possible in any type of outdoor area! When can we ever eat because the whole world is open area and apparently that’s not safe.

Edit: also the law directly contradicts what you are saying. The law literally states that it is possible for ventilation systems to combat this issue

🫣 I have honestly never seen anyone argue so vehemently for others to eat in a place they are not comfortable. I have not seen proof there is bird deterrents or ventilation on top of the buffet structure to prevent contamination from birds sitting up there and preventing it from drifting down to the food.

I have seen many unsanitary things ignored in restaurants over the years, it only takes missing/ignoring it long enough for the bacteria/virus to spread to one person before the entire restaurant could become contaminated. There's videos of blacklight tests in buffet settings showing contamination spread, I highly recommend checking it out. You are moving the goal posts when you are saying we can never eat because the whole world is contaminated, I have only mentioned restaurant food preparation/serving settings. I'm bowing out of this thread, we're going in circles.

You are claiming chef mickeys is unsanitary. Do you also believe that contempo care is also unsanitary? You are making quite a serious claim. You don’t have to eat at chef mickeys but to go and state that it is an unsanitary place is very bizarre especially since people bring their kids there all the time.

I’m not telling you to eat at chef mickeys nor do I want you to eat anywhere you are not comfortable. What I want is for you to not spread misinformation and pretend that the law supports your position when it very clearly doesn’t.

You are claiming that this issue, which has been one for decades apparently, and hasn’t caused any issues yet is an issue that I should consider when deciding if I should go to chef mickeys or not.

Most of the food isn’t even prepared in the main area but in the kitchen which the birds aren’t facing.
The ventilation doesn’t have to be exclusively above the buffet. You are really digging into a weak position and very far fetched thing.

A big complaint is the noise. The inside of the Contemporary echos, and depending on crowds and where you sit, it can be loud. Everyone has their personal tastes, but for me, the food was a little bland and basic given the cost. Characters were great, and nobody was rushing us, but that's a lot of money for very average food.
