I just bought into DVC. I thought to myself, with the low points for studios, my family and I can have much longer vacations to my favorite vacation location---WDW. So, I saw myself as a point stretcher...

Three reservation changes later, I am booked four nights in a one bedroom at VB and waitlisted for a one bedroom for the other two nights!!! Suddenly, a studio is not good enough for us??? :rotfl2:

Is this how addonitis begins?????

You catch on quickly! ;)

Studios are "okay" for us, but DH and I have decided that when it's just the two of us travelling, we'll try to go for a 1BR as often as possible. Just nicer to have all that extra space....

:cloud9:

I haven't stayed in a villa yet! I have 3 more vacations booked. I don't even look up studios on the point calculator anymore! I have addonitis BCV & BWV real bad!! :teeth:

I have purposely not booked a 1 bdrm yet because I just know that I won't want to go back to a studio! We really don't need the 1 bdrm, but you know all that space, the tub, the washer/dryer......... :confused3

Yes, I think that's what happens. Your scenario sounds just like ours. November 2004, 9 nights booked in a studio at BC--first trip home for me, DH, DD (6), DD (3).

The next morning (while the girls and DH are finishing up the Princess Breakfast in Norway), I'm on the phone to member services trying to get a 1 BR--anywhere!!

Nothing was available and we managed fine (had my over the door shoe holder full of toiletries and a collapsable laundry hamper and various other Disboards tricks in use!), but this November. . yep, it's a 1 BR. I think it will be so much more relaxing for us and will seem more like a get-away.

Everytime a new incentive comes around, I'm crunching the numbers, but I got some advice early on on this board which was to max out your points first (borrow, borrow, borrow) before you determine you absolutely Don't have enough. . .trying to stick to my guns on that one!! :teeth:

When hubby and I bought our first 150 points, we thought the same thing everyone usually does... "Oh, it's just the two of us and we will be happy in a studio a couple times a year..."

Well, 250 add-on points later, we have NEVER stayed in a studio! :teeth:

Love a one bedroom! The space, jacuzzi and washer/dryer cannot be beat! :goodvibes

Count us in as when buying saying a studio is more then enough, however since buying in 8/2000 I have no idea if it is more then enough as we've never stayed in one LOL we have done an add on through

You definitely have the fever of addonitis!
Fortunately, you already know the cure. :wizard:

We made sure that our first DVC visit was a studio, having been forewarned by the fine folks on this forum. Again, when it is just DW and I, a DVC studio is enough, a 1BR is so much nicer. Theres a BIG jump from a studio - which is really a glorified hotel room, nice though it may be - to a 1BR, with kitchen, living area, jacuzzi, etc.

We did add on one night at the beginning of our May trip, and I picked a Studio at VWL, since we'll be there less than 24 hours, and we'll be moving to our 1BR at SSR the next day. I don't know if I'd want to go the other way....

When our family vacations, we naturally get the 2 or 3 bedroom rooms because of our size (we have 6 kids). When my wife and I vacation alone, we ALWAYS go for the 1BR because of the extra room and most have a grand bathroom with jaccuzzi! The Beach Club Villas are wonderful and right next to Epcot! (you can walk there in under 5 minutes!).

Yep, Tammy!!! That's how it starts!!!

We originally bought 210 BWV points, and thought we had PLENTY!! Then, DH started in, "We don't REALLY want to stay in a studio, do we?"

Well, when we went home this past Dec (our first trip home), we were in a studio at VWL on Fri and Sat, and then moved to a 1brdrm at BWV for Sun-Thurs. Well, dd did her usual "catch something nasty and contagious at WDW", and by Sun ended up at the emergency room with various "things" coming out both ends!! We must've washed 15 loads of clothes between Sun and Fri. That was when we decided that we REALLY need that 1 bdrm.

Not to mention, that when DD picks something up at WDW, she usually passes it onto me (DH NEVER gets it). So, by Tues I didn't really want any WDW food to eat. I just wanted "simple" stuff....plain pasta and stuff like that. Having the kitchen for cooking for "upset tummies" was a lifesaver!!!

Now, DH says we are NEVER staying in a studio. Of course, I am ALWAYS in a "let's add-on" mood, so my own personal "punishment" (and, my devious plan, since I manage points) is to tell DH that we "have" to stay in studios for our arrival nights (Fri and Sat), and then we can move to 1 bdrms on Sun, until such time as he lets me do an add-on (which, of course will STILL not provide us with enough points ;) ).

I don't mind staying in studios on Fri and Sat, but he HATES moving. Oh well...that's just the way it is until we have a LOT more points....I'm thinking a 1000 would be good!!!

Guilty as well. It's the washer & dryer and all that extra space that's addicting for us!

im just happy to be a member, and will probably never add on, let me see in a few yearslol. it is the maintenence fees i worry about the more points the more fees.

Smart choice! We made the "mistake" once that we decided to try out a 1 BR on one trip, "just to see what it's like-let's splurge!" Since then, it's become, not a "splurge", but a necessity.

Yep, that is what happens. Suddenly the studio isn't good enough for us even when there are only two of us......we go for the one bedroom. I guess it is a treat to be able to really kick back :smooth: and spoil ourselves.......feeling REALLY at home in that one bedroom. We had addon-itis many times, we now have 600 points, which works out perfectly for us......No more.

When we bought into DVC, we bought just enough points for one trip each year staying in a studio.

When we joined, they had a special incentive deal called 'Magic Beginnings' which gave us an extra half year's allocation of points. So our first visit on points we stayed in a 1 bed, rather than a studio.

As a result, we have never stayed in a studio! We now vacation three years out of five in a one bed, rather than every year in a studio!

Another guilty family here.

The Plan:
1 bedroom for 9 days every other year

The Reality:
We MUST HAVE a 2 bedroom for twelve days each year
