DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
So officially planning my summer trip. My youngest is graduating High School this year and heading off to the Air Force. Going to try to plan so we can make the trip between her finishing her MOS training and her reporting to her first station. Not sure if we are gonna do Land, World, or Cruise.

Can't go wrong with any of those (although, I'm partial to the cruise verity).
Congrats to your youngest on all counts and may she find the spot that suits her best.

We were also planning to do a bit of traveling this summer and likely to the west coast, but real life went and fouled up that game plan something mighty. Now I'm looking into spending a very tidy (monthly) sum on this here new-fangled thing they call COBRA. Needless to say, that's not exactly the new opportunity that I was expecting our crystal ball to be tossing out just now.

We pulled the trigger on a WDW trip for late summer. Originally was going to stay offsite, but we got suckered by the latest "free" dining offer. When we do the math, all these kids who are now adults eat a LOT. Anyway, hopefully it'll be fun. Bummer that Thunder Mountain and Buzz Lightyear will be closed. Hopefully Test Track will be back open.

Congrats to your daughter! Sounds like a worthy reason for a big vacation.

Reading between the lines here, but is this the result of another kick in the teeth from the employer?

Excellent that you get to bring the whole gang down there at least once more.
We saw that dinning plan offer and considered it as a possibility for "just a minute or two",
but then the Grinch showed up and...

Square in the teeth landing me in a heap on the curb.

First time in over 44 years I have had to actually look for employment.

I had to Google that. Sorry, dude.

Congrats on the upcoming trip. :)

Wow. :(
Good thing there's such a thing as "loyalty"...

I know WDW isn't the same as it used to be, and we'll probably get on far fewer rides thanks to the new system. Mostly we're going for the little guy. He wasn't tall enough for all the rides on the last trip so we feel like we owe him the full experience.

Wow. I'm sorry, that's just rotten to the core. If I can help at all just say so.

Congrats on the upcoming trip. :)
Thanks! Now I have to go get a second mortgage.

Those multiple 2nd mortgage requirements can be a bit of an issue...

Your reasoning makes perfect sense to me and is kind'a what I figured was the driver here.
At least the stuff that'll be closed down are also things I believe he's done before. You're also correct in that it's a lot harder to hit as many attractions in one trip under the current systems and crowd levels. That said, y'all can focus on the new to youngest stuff and even split up from time to time. I believe this may well end up being one of the grander expeditions you've taken down that way.

I had to Google that. Sorry, dude.

Much appreciated.
Not surprised you had to look that one up. Pretty sure we're the one and only "1st World" nation that purposely creates a reason to need such a thing as COBRA (Yeah! us...).

Loyalty is also extremely unpatriotic. But I did make it quite a long time in the textile industry (which has been hard on its workforce since 1771), and in a state with a "proud" history of "controlling" workers since 1670, and in a nation that has been openly and aggressively labor hostile since 1980 (which pretty much spans my entire career). I survived a fair number of scares, but this time the Investment Capital Industry just caught up with me (more shades of the 80s).

Thanks and a very kind offer, sir.
Do believe we'll figure it out.

First thing I did was get rid of every debt we had except for the house, and cut off everything we could easily live without. If I can figure out this medical insurance bit of the puzzle for three more years (baring changes to the current rules, of course) we should be alright. I'm looking for work (with more interest in benefits over salary, to be honest), but I am running into the handicap of being "legally" old enough to be discriminated against. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more!)

Hey, Hey, I haven’t been on here for a while. How’s everyone? Rob, sorry to hear, come on down, the mouse loves us old people, we show up for work when scheduled. Actually, they are always looking for people in your industry.
Got five days off next week, friends coming in from Pa.
Got another four off for Memorial Day and got another five off in June, we are staying on property in a cabin at Copper Creek, should be nice. We did a bungalow at the Poly. last year so I figured cabin this year for our 40th wedding anniversary. These are all DVC point reservations, we don’t use them like we use to. lol.
Work is going good, yes, I may transfer again. lol. Three years, four locations. Still in Epcot just a little bit more of a chill location. Apparently I’m getting too old to be doing what I’m doing, they are concerned about me. lol. Same role, same circus just a different ring with different monkeys. I’m having a blast, I can’t lie.
Anyone planning on heading down, don’t be afraid to look me up, no I don’t have free tickets or meal or resort coupons. lol.

You don't say... hmmm...

Not too shabby. :)

I'm sorry... then why are we looking you up, exactly??

:lmao:

Exactly. You would be amazed at all the friends you have all of a sudden. Lol
I was going to just post a laughing emoji, but... unfortunately, there are people out there who are more than happy to take advantage or "be friends" with someone only for what they can get out of it.

Humm... not a "bad" notion, but my girl won't even consider moving away from where we are.
And, being as she pretty much saves my live on a daily bases...
I don't believe I'll be moving any time soon either.

But it is an interesting idea.

I’ve had people I went to high school with, I’ve been out of high school for 42 years send me messages asking me if I can get them into the parks for free. I won’t go into details here but I could if I wanted to but you didn’t know me in school, much less after school so why would I do that?
So if you think about it, there are approximately 70k that work for the company in Central Florida alone, if they gave everyone family and friends unrestricted free access, the place would be mob with people who didn’t pay to get in. lol. So with that being said, you probably can figure a few things out.

I only know you through this forum. I don't even know your real name (nor you, mine)... I wouldn't dream of asking for a perk!
And that would be the same for people I don't contact on a regular basis... heck, I don't do that with people I do contact on a regular basis! I figure if it's something that they would want to do, then fine... but I certainly would never ask. Just... hmmm... not sure if "rude" or "stupid" fits here.

Interesting… I happen to know both…
Not many do, although it's not a secret or anything.
And yet... how would you feel if I PM'd you and asked to stay at your place?

Granted, there are those who will always say yes and enjoy meeting people and...
And maybe you're one of those types of people. But... no way would I dream of doing that.

Sorry if I offended you, the intentions of my post was just to state that I know both of your names. Sorry again.
