How do you tip at Palos?

I don't think I've seen this mentioned before. Also, does the cost of the Palos meal go on your KTTW card?

I've only eaten there for brunch, but I imagine the process is the same.

At the end of the meal you will be given a Check Folder (like at the end of your meal at any regular restaurant) You KTTW card will be needed to authorize the surcharge for your meal (and any "special" drinks you may have ordered like alcohol or cappuccino). There is also a line to fill in for an optional additional gratuity.

That leads to a question that I have: How much is appropriate to tip for dinner?

You may get various response to the tip amount. For us we used this rule. What would it cost for us to eat this type food in the city, add the wine cost and tip appropriately.

According to DCL's official Fun Onboard Q&A page:

The ship features an adults-only alternative restaurant called Palo. Dining hours
for Palo are 6 - 11 p.m. Reservations are required, and taken (once on board)
on a first-come first-served basis. Palo dining is limited to Guests 18 and older.

So, for a couple, that's an automatic $10 tip.

Now, suppose you order a $34 bottle of wine. That's another automatic $5 tip (@ 15%). So now we're at $15.

Then, there's blank line on the receipt where you have an opportunity to increase the tip. If the service you get is a good as the service we got, chances are you'll gladly increase the tip by another $5 or $10 to bring the total up to $20 or $25.

It all goes on the KTTW card, and becomes part of the shocking total that you see at the end of the cruise.

The charges for dinner are for:

• Automatic $5 per person gratuity
• Wine and any other alcoholic beverages, specialty coffee beverages, bottled water, and non-alcoholic specialty beverages (with automatic 15% gratuity added for all such beverages)
• Optional additional gratuity

I think my wife and I spent about $70, but we only drank half the bottle of wine, so we arranged to have it sent down to our regular dining rotation the next night. (Zita in Palo sent it to Zita, our assistant server -- both Zitas provided excellent service.)

The charge for brunch on the Disney Magic is $10 per person for the gratuity and one glass of sparkling wine per person. Again, there's an opportunity to order additional drinks and to increase the gratuity.

By the way, it's "Palo" not "Palo's" -- named for the "palo" (or pole in English) that gondoliers use to navigate Venice's canals.
