How do you (phoneticaly) pronounce Xcaret? Is it like X caray? Does anyone know? I don't want to sound like an idiot. Thanks!

I don't know but we're going there in April. :hyper:

Seriously, these are the pronounciations that I've seen. They are all pretty close to each other.

Esh-caret
Ish-ka-rett
eesh-carette
esh-cah-RET

In case you were wondering, it apparently means "little inlet"

All of the above are mostly right, English speaking Americans have a difficult time with the accent sometimes and it comes out sounding a bit different than it should be. It's really more of a SHCA-ret. The SH sound is supposed to be just the shhhh sound, with no apparent vowel sound before it. We tend to make it either esh or ish. So think of it as a triple consonant sound and run the S-H-C together and it comes out SHCa.

Remember, this is Mexico, a Spanish speaking country not a French speaking country :smooth: :teeth:

I've always heard it as "ish-car-et" with the heavy emphasis on the "ish", and then another emphasis on the "et" at the end.

We were just there in December and were told by the locals that is was pronounced very similar to what dbond said:

SHCA-ray
