How do you get your child to take their medicine?

I think I got this hint on the Disboards. Give your child a popsicle before their medicine. It numbs their mouth so they can't taste the medicine. It works pretty well!

I have to opposite problem with DD4, she loves to take medicine. Will even tell me she is sick to be able to take it.

Blatent bribery. DD hates strong flavors, doesn't like soda or non-choc. candy. The only medicine she likes is dye-free ibuprofen. When she had an ear infection and had to have 10 days of amoxy, I was in despair so I laid it on the line. Take th emedicine without a fight and you can go to Chuck E Cheese. I would rather have 2 hours of horror than 10 days of screaming! :rotfl2:

Can they do antibiotics in flavored chewables? Chewable Motrin (grape flavored) has saved me. I also bribe them with ice cream or sherbet after they take their medicine. I threatened them with suppositories when they were sick last week. Seemed to help!

I would sit on my DS. My legs holding down his arms so he couldn't push the medicine away. I would use one hand to hold his head and the other to hold his mouth open. Repeat every 8 hours for 10 days:headache:

I sure don't miss those days. My youngest is 3 and while he still hates to take medicine, he's a lot better now.

We follow Mary Poppins' recommendation. Both DD8 and DS3 willingly take those awful tasting antibiotics when they know a spoonful of brown sugar is there for them afterwards. :)
