How clean are the villas when you first check it?

Yes, I am very obsessive. Wish I wasn't but I am. Since this is our first time, how clean are the villas? For those of you out there like me, will I be scrubbing away our first day?
My guess is that you will be scrubbing away the first day. ::yes::

Not because the place is unclean, but because of your self-description. You'll be thinking about the hundreds of people who have stayed in that room...some sick, some with poor potty skills (incl. adults), some with the attitude that they paid big bucks so they can treat the villa any way they like. As this runs through your mind, you'll be reaching for every cleaning tool and substance you can find!

We've had several check-in experiences and never found anything that we considered offensive as far as a clean room. Polls on this site have indicated that the vast majority of stays include a clean room on check in. But there have been reported incidences of poor room cleaning.

If I ran into that, I'd be more inclined to report it to the front desk or housekeeping than to start scrubbing. Let them clean it up!

One last point. Last we checked, WDW is still in Florida. That means that there is a significant bug population (both flying and crawling) that Disney is constantly on red alert against. I think they do a great job considering the environment. The other thing is that Florida is wet and humid. Mold pops up very easily and again we've been fine with their efforts to keep it cleaned up.

If I were you, I'd give in to the obsession and go ahead and scrub. At least then it won't be on your mind the entire trip and you'll get to enjoy the rest of your vacation (or at least until you have to use one of the public restrooms!).

Have a great trip, and rest assured that you really shouldn't have to be cleaning (scrubbing) on your vacation!

My family stayed at a two-bedroom at the Boardwalk last week....it was our first trip to DVC. We thought everything was very good, actually exceeding our expectations (considering my wife is a neat neat freak as well). The only thing that we needed to do an extra cleaning was the high-chair that was in the closet....it was pretty bad.

Only stayed at OKW and SSR and both were very clean. I've stayed at almost every resort on property and it never occured to me to clean it when I arrive.

My thoughts as well. Our rooms have always been "clean enough" for me, but I'm not overly tidy. But they have been noticably worn. We've had mildew stains in all the showers - not surprising in Florida humidity. Last trip someone had dripped cake or pancake batter between the windows in the oven - that did drive me batty - no way to clean it without taking the oven door apart! We always find cereal or something when we pull the hideabed out, but its signicantly less than the three months worth when I take my own couch cushions apart at home. The walls generally have been less than pristine - either scrapped up a little from luggage, or the crayon cleaned off, but needing a new coat of paint before its really gone. And the doors to the balcony - its always been possible to notice fingerprints if you look - but I'm so used to seeing my backyard through fingerprints, it isn't really a change. I guess there is a reason these are called "home away from homes."

I agree with Crisi. None of us do really detailed cleaning that often at home, and given the amount of turn over, I think Disney and DVC does a magnificent job. If you find yourself cleaning at a regular Disney resort, then you will likely fine yourself doint the same thing at DVC. If you are used to the cleanliness level (or lack of it) at most chain type 'motels' like Holiday Inn etc, you'll think things are pretty spiffy!

Well my wife cleans everything, when we arrive and leave, shes says we might get the same room next time lol :cool1:

I envision them more like a CSI team, complete with rubber gloves, swabs and UV lights....

We've had four DVC trips totaling 6 check-ins (4SSR, 1OKW, 1VWL) and never experienced one problem. The worst: once, someone put a used-but-unwashed glass (OJ, I think) back on the shelf - not a vacation-ruining catastrophe....

Careful there Dr. T!

I have scanned an OKW Master Bedroom with a 'spare' UV light I happened to have handy.

Let me put it this way. They must have been renters, 'cause no owner would have felt the need to 'mark' so many surfaces! :sad2:

(I think they may have been rabbits too! :teeth:  :teeth: )

So I now leave my UV light at home, figuring what I don't know, won't scieve me out.

Anyway back to the OP:

My wife is THE clean fanatic, I'm a life member of SLOB!

We run the dishes through the dishwasher, sanitize the Jacuzzi (we use bleach), and usually need to dust all the cabinet shelves before we put our food away. Takes 30 minutes to do it all while we unpack, which takes another 30 or so minutes.

(Ewwwwww, if you saw what I saw..... :earseek:)

P.S. We have twice had a lizard and once a froggie waiting for us in our room when we checked-in. FWIW, we consider that a major plus!!!

Since my husband is the "clean freak" and very picky about it I might add - it's usually when he's with us on our trips, that the cleanliness of the villas are not up to par. Have seen ketchup stains on front of refrigerator and walls, phones being dirty, etc. So I usually bring Lysol wipes to satisfy him. When the kids and I go without him, the villas are usually clean enough for my standards. We've stayed at every DVC resort except Hilton Head and the dirtiest I've seen was a dedicated 2 bedroom at OKW. I can only guess that with a 2 bedroom there are lots of kids. I only have 2 kids but we had my sister-in-law and her 3 younger boys one trip and they were quite messy. They left earlier than I did so I saw their room and tried to wipe up as best I could. But all in all, even though I think they are cleaner than some other hotels outside Disney, I have noticed that some are not as spotless as when they were newer. It's called "normal wear and tear" I guess.
