Help -- my sister and I would like to take our mother on a Disney cruise (just the three of us -- no kids:teeth: ) this May. Our problem is that she DOESN'T WANT TO GO! Can you believe it!!! The funnest thing I've ever done in my 37 years and she doesn't want to go.

Here's the deal. Though she doesn't mind traveling -- she is very prone to motion sickness. She thinks she'll be miserable. As I have luckily - hahaha- inherited her motion sickness gene, I, too, was worried about the motion of the boat. I used the prescription patch and did great!

I need suggestions from you all. How can I convince her? I'm sure she'll have fun if I can get her on the boat.

But my son is very prone to motion sickness, throws up on car rides all the time. He has never had any problem on the ship however. The movement is different than in a car and it just does not effect him.
Maybe you could suggest taking a short cruise like the three day so that she could see first hand that she will be ok. Or you could post a poll asking how many people got sea sick and what they did. If she saw that out of 100 people only four got ill she may feel better about going.

Explain to your mom how special this time would be, just her and her "girls" :)

Tell her there are some women who wished they still had their moms to take on a cruise. :(

Also tell her about Bonine which is a pill she can take each morning which is an excellent seasickness medication :) I took it on a cruise this summer, on the rocky Atlantic ocean, and I felt great. You can even drink alcohol while taking it.

Good luck, I hope you can convince her! :)

Have her read this board. When she sees how many of us here LOVE this cruise she may change her mind and give it a shot.
If she still does not want to go, I will play your Mom for a week.
HAHA ;)

I'm prone to motion sickness too. Can't read in the car. Get very sick on my dad's fishing boat. Cannot tolerate fast/jerky/spinning rides.

That said....I was fine on the cruise...twice! I took a Bonine at breakfast and at dinner. Not sure I needed it, but was afraid NOT to. Once in the middle of the night I woke up with a weird feeling and could feel the boat, but I honestly think it was from eating WAY past my limits at dinner. There was a storm at sea and I did feel the boat moving, but the way I felt was not motion sick (if that makes sense)

I'm taking my parents this November. My mom is very prone to motion sickness and things that are "just not right." She feels a little weird just looking at a picture that isn't straight on the wall, if that's any indication how sensitive she is. After talking with us she really thinks that with Bonine she'll be alright.

One way to entice your mom.....offer to pay! :) HA! :)

HTH.
