We are looking for a hotel in downtown Atlanta. Isn't there a website that talks about hotwire and the hotels they use. There's a four-star that I'm interested in bidding, but I'd like to get info. Or if anyone knows a good hotel in downtown Atlanta for under $150. Any info would be great!!!

Man, this is really confusing. Anyone have any suggestions on where to start to learn how to bid? Do you normally have good or bad luck with hotwire or priceline?

Hi:

I got a room through Hotwire recently. It was my first experience, and a terrible one at that. The hotel in Kissimmee, FL was said to be 2.5 stars, but it was an absolute fleabag--not even a chain hotel. I wouldn't recommend Hotwire at all.

However, I did have an excellent experience with Pricline.com (which is what I think you're talking about, since you mentioned bidding). I got a 3-star hotel (Crowne Plaza Universal Orlando) for $98 a night (after taxes and fees). My bid was $85 a night (for 3 nights) and it was accepted. Of course, I didn't know what hotel I was going to get (as with Hotwire) but my experience was much better with Priceline. Hope this helps.

The important thing is to do your research. I have done Priceline and Hotwire for the last year and half and saved a ton of money. I usually book 4* hotels, but sometimes 2 1/2's are fine. BetterBidding.com deals with PL and HW both. Their hotel lists, especially for HW, even though not totally complete, can help narrow the choices down. Biddingfortravel.com deals with PL only. Just reading through the posts for the area you are looking at should give enough information to bid effectively. You can ask for assistance, I never have, but most people should be able to figure out where to start bidding by reading the posts.

For our upcoming trips I used PL...San Francisco, 4* Le Meridien, $88 bid accepted....webrate $304. Portland, OR, 4* Westin, $75 bid accepted...webrate $164. Phoenix, 2 1/2* Courtyard Camelback, $46 bid accepted...webrate $139, and this one was an overbid.

Used Hotwire once to get the Omni in San Francisco...knew from research which hotel it would be so went for it and got it. Also bid $75 once and got the same Omni.

A little research equals big $$$$$ savings.

Good luck.

4* westin DT atlanta recently for $85 on priceline, marriot marquis for $80 recently.

I've had really good luck with Hotwire, but I never take anything less than a 3*. I just got the Sheraton Studio City in Orlando for $62/night.

Thanks for the responses. I'm doing some research and any other help would be great. I'm hoping we'll be pretty safe to do the 4 star. I love those under $100 prices. We need three rooms. WE'RE GOING TO SEE JIMMY BUFFETT!!
