Hotels in New York

I know this is a forum to discuss disney but my boyfriend & I are thinking about taking a trip to New York in October. Just wondering if any of you guys can refer a nice hotel to stay in ...

And where in New York do you want to stay, Manhattan? Have you tried Hotwire?

at the Helmsley Park Lane in June of this year. Got a great rate on Expedia (under $200 USD per night) and though the hotel was a bit overkill with the decor...it was clean and in a fabulous location! We walked almost everywhere with ease.

Have fun...we had a blast!

I guess I want to be near the sights .. within walking distance to any of the following:

Central Park
Times Square
Empire State Building
Broadway

I have never been to New York so any help would be great..Thanks!

We went to New York in July (which is a less expensive time than October) and stayed at the Affina Dumont ( in a junior suite) on 34th for $184 + taxes a night. I'm looking for a hotel for my bother in October and the prices are quite a bit higher.

Travelzoo is a good site for NYC hotel deals I cross check any hotel I'm looking at with Trip Advisor

Better bidding and Bidding For Travel will give you an idea what hotels priceline and hotwire have on. New York hotel rooms are really small - we couldn't use either of those because we had our kids and didn't want to risk getting a room too small for four.

Send away for the visitor info from NYC and company It has really excellent maps and is small enough to tote around. The unlimited subway passes at $7/day or $21/week are a great deal - you could stay just about anywhere and subway to the sights quickly.

If you have time, the Staten Island Ferry is free and the view from it is lovely at night.

Is right across the street from Central Park, beside the Plaza and a 2 minute walk around the corner to 5th Ave. An excellent locale.

We stayed at The Comfort Inn which was right in Times Square for 99.00/night 3 years ago. Rockefeller Plaza was right around the corner too. It was a little clausterphobic and our room only had a shower stall but we were only there for one night because we had tickets to see Rosie O'donnell. Excellent location and cheap price though! I think I just booked through choicehotels.com. HTH
