Hotel Royal Plaza...anyone stayed there since rehab?

What I reported regarding the buffet was accurate for the morning that we were there. The restaurant was in a less than desireable condition and we overheard one of the only two servers/busboys speaking to another couple about problems they were having that day. So yes, there were no made to order waffles or omelets or anything other than what was reported. If these items were on a menu, we wouldn't know because we were never offered any. We said we were there for the buffet and put our drink order in. The server told us to help ourselves and that was it. The buffet was quite lacking and quite a few people took one look at the offerings and walked back out. It's too bad because other than the restaurant and our possibly anomalous shower, the hotel was pretty good. Hence my 5 out of 10 rating.

As you said, you were not there, I was. However, you have a website and clients to serve, so I understand where your comments are coming from.

Okay. Sounds like there was something major wrong that morning. Would you mind sharing the date this happened? I am going to follow up with the hotel and find out what was going on.

I agree that without the made-to-order items, the buffet is not worth $12.95.

Thanks! I will definitely be checking on this.

The room was nice enough, but there was a lot of road noise from I-4.

First, thank you for all the reviews. Sounds as though the rehab is done and this might be a great option for some.

I haven't stayed in a value resort in quite a while so save for the size of the room vs. a Disney value resort, these "perceptions" were based on reality. If you had a better experience, good for you. Mine was not all that great. But if I was putting that website in my signature, I wouldn't say anything bad about that hotel either.

There are perceptions and facts. You were factually WRONG about the room sizes, and Mary pointed that out in a very nice fashion. For you to imply she was less than objective is rude. Maybe you didn't like the fact you made a mistake, but it happens.

I already conceded the fact that my perception of the room size was incorrect and Mary and I have concluded our discussion regarding this matter, but thank you so much for sticking your nose in. Mary handled herself quite well without help from anyone, your input accomplishes nothing further.

I think that a handful of the responses on this thread are borderline inappropriate. There is no reason for anyone to get snarky or jumpy over the Hotel Royal Plaza. Therefore, I'm going to ask that we return to the topic at hand. Thank you.

You were also wrong about transportation, the DTD buses run every 30 minutes not every hour as you said.

Some of us think you were more than borderline rude in maintaining Mary was only defending the hotel due to her endorsement.

The hotels website says they offer omelets cooked to order.

You were wrong about the bus service and wrong about the room size. My two cents is you may have either missed the omelet station or were wrong about what time you got to the restaurant. You said you got their around 10:00, maybe you got their closer to 10:30 and the omelet station was already closed for the morning.

I was in WDW during Charly. I almost stayed at the Royal Plaza but wound up staying at the Gaylord Palms (Priceline). I can't say how lucky I was. GP never even closed the bars and restaurants.

Well Lewis, my original posting stated that since I didn't use the transportation I wasn't sure, hence the question mark next to that statement. And if you would have read my replies more closely, you would have read that the restaurant must have had some problems the morning I was there because there was indeed no omelet station, nor were we even informed that such a station even existed. The restaurant was in quite a disarray that morning and it seemed they were hard pressed for service personnel. And my timeline stated "10:00-ish, maybe", so it could have very well been closer to 10:30. Regardless, if the breakfast buffet was still open, all the items should have been available unless otherwise stated, which was clearly not the case. This hotel clearly had some issues during my stay and I pointed them out.

You were wrong about the room size and wrong about the transportation. I can understand a restaurant accommodating a guest who got there at closing but not re-opening an omelet station or even re-replenishing the buffet but they should have told you that you were late and not all the items would be available. I haven't been in the hotel I'd probably agree it's not worth $13 unless the food is excellent. You can get mediocre breakfast at places like Golden Coral for much less.

According to the website dinner room service is available until midnight.
http://www.royalplaza.com/roomsrv.asp It doesn't really make any sense to stop room service at 4:00p. You're either mistaken, as you were about the room size and transportation, or there was a specific situation with the restaurant/kitchen the days you were there.

Giving you the benefit of some doubt it's possible the hotel doesn't have all the kinks worked out yet.

I have learned long ago not to pay too much attention to websites, they are often not updated in a timely fashion. The information packet that was in our hotel room stated room service ended at 4:00PM.

Anything else that you would like to comment on even though you haven't stayed at the hotel?

and I've learned not to put any credibility in a posters opinion when they have already posted wrong information.

I'd suggest a guest who's interested in room service check directly with the hotel and not rely on either the hotels website or your information which has already been shown to be faulty. I'd be shocked if a hotel that has a restaurant that serves dinner and offers room service normally stops room service at 4:00p on a daily basis. You could be mistaken, there could have been a typo in the material in your room or there could have been a problem during the days you were staying there.

Whatever the reasons, this hotel did indeed have some issues. I pointed them out to answer the OP's question. I was amused to find a few people who felt the need to jump in and point out my supposed rudeness to Mary of Mousesavers.com. How ironic is that? Anyway, I really have nothing left to add to my account of our weekend although I could certainly go round and round all day with a couple of posters, but that would be meaningless.

There really is no need for the bickering on this thread. Since I asked once nicely, and the exchange could not stop there I am closing this thread.
