Horrible, Awful, Disgusting Meals

Alfredo's is the worst restaurant in the world (I don't mean the worst in disney world, I mean the worst in the entire world)

It is hard to describe how bad Alfredo's food is but let me put it this way: when I was a kid I went to the zoo on a class trip and there was a chimp there who kept vomiting in his hand and then eating the vomit. That chimp had a better meal than you will have at Alfredo's.

Least favorite:
A tie between Mama Melrose and Garden Grille,
But I think Garden Grille wins:rolleyes:

The decor of Animal Kingdom's Rainforest Cafe is interesting, unusual, and may be worth seeing. The wait was long (over an hour) and a lot longer than we were told it would be. The service was terrible. The food was terrible. The temperature was terrible (cold, cold, cold). It was a terrible, terrible restaurant. Maybe go in and pretend you're looking for friends, look around a few minutes and leave. Don't eat there. Don't give them any business. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Did I mention how bad the food, service, and temperature were.

Chef Mickey's was a mix.

My four year old daughter loved the characters at Chef Mickey's, who really paid her a lot of attention. Minnie Mouse took her in hand (she was wearing a Minnie Mouse dress and hat) and took her all around the restaurant, dancing and playing. It was the high point of my daughter's trip and enjoyable for me, too, even though I was way ready to leave before Minnie came along. All of the characters were above average in all respects.

Other than that I'd rather have eaten at a grammar school cafeteria on one of its bad days, not that it was as bad as the Rainforest Cafe.

Hollywood and Vine was the school cafeteria, a tad better food than Chef Mickey's.

There are some wonderful restaurants at Disney, too, including Jiko's and Boma. The Coral Reef was darn good, too, but not in the class of Jiko's, which may be one of the very best restaurants I've ever enjoyed, including the best of New Orleans, Paris, etc. It's that good.

As good as Jiko's is, the Rainforest Cafe is on the other end of the scale.

You are asking a question that is very subjective and open to one's own interpretation. For every person that has had a bad experience there is an equal amount with a good experience. There are too many variables that come in to play.

I would have to disagree with DZNEFREEK to some degree. I really don't think that all negative votes are cancelled out by an EQUAL amount of positive votes. While it's true with some restaurants there are those restaurants that continually seem to disappoint and those that continually receive high marks. We have done many polls over the years on these boards and tallies have been added up for negative votes and places like Planet Hollywood and Whispering Canyon regularly receive more than their share of complaints. Other places like Cali Grill regularly receive high marks. If 80% of the time I read negative reviews about a place you can bet I'm not going to gamble my hard earned vacation dollars there for my next meal.

I think the best thing about Disney World is the wonderful variety of restaurants! :) There is something for everyone. One person may like one, while another may not. I think that the negative, and positive reviews on these boards are tremendously helpful. I myself have been dissapointed to see that someone has had a bad meal at a restaurant that I love. But I think that someone has to experience a meal themselves before they totaly count it out. And that is the beauty of the whole thing, everyone is intitled to like what they like! :)

another vote for the rainforest. The food was disgusting and the service was very slow. If you want a good meal go to benihanas in the hilton plaza it's expensive, but you get tons of food.

This may be true but when you take into account the shear volume of people served (PH 5000+ per day) the small amount of people who post here really do not add up to a significant number.

I happen to like both these places and have never had a bad experience at either one. FWIW

Cap'n Jack's in DTD: Waited over an hour and a half, food was bland and server obviously wanted to go home rather than wait on us.

Another one to avoid (but is not a sit-down): Columbia Harbour House. DH got food poisoning from clam chowder and was in bed for 1 1/2 days of our three day trip.

Worst meal ever was at Boma.

Runner-ups were:
Tony's
Garden Grille
Planet Hollywood (though DH likes it)
Crystal palace (went 4 years ago and never went back)

I agree about Planet Hollywood. It is overpriced and the food wasn't even that good. I can't believe how much we payed for a side of mashed potatos. VEGETARIANS BEWARE! Yes, we DO get sick of eating veggie burgers all the time which is the only thing most restaurants have! UGH.

Avoid Coral Cafe in the Dolphin for buffet breakfast. Cold and overcooked food --- but good service. Still isn't worth it for me at the price they charge. One bonus is that they DID have soy milk...sometimes hard to find at restaurants.

I have to agree that everyone’s tastes differ. I loved Alfredo’s . But I only buy Parmesan Regiano (sp) when I want Parmesan cheese. I think that over the few years that I have been going to WDW the food, over all has improved. So…

1991- Mac and cheese at The Land – can you say cardboard?
1993 - Baked potato at The Land - cold and half cooked
1994 - Cesar Salad at The Land (lol OK, OK I haven’t been back since) - Watery
1996 - Rose and Crown – I don’t remember (think one was a chicken dish) what we had but I do remember the comment that two out of three meals were bland
1999 - Coral Reef – Fish was cold and portions small - a tie with Tuskers House no one could eat the chicken it was so greasy, veggie just ok, so we just ate the mashed potatoes
2002 – Not one yuk !!! I didn’t care for the cheese soup at Le Cellars, too salty, but I will try it again.

Another vote for Tony's!! We found the food to be horrible and overpriced. We left most on the plate just plain yuk..

OK, DH and I will be in the very small minority that refuse to return to Flying Fish. This was the only truly bad, "I can't believe we wasted $100 there" meal of our 12 day trip in September. Bad night or not, I will never, ever return there to find out if our meal was a fluke or what can be expected at FF on a regular basis.

The all girls trip I just returned from included a meal at 1900 Park Faire. While it wasn't bad, we all thought it was overpriced. I won't personally return there, but I wouldn't warn people off from there, either.

We have had some of our best meals at Jiko, Le Cellier (x 2), and Artist Point---all of which have their detractors. Unfortunately, whether a restaurant is good or bad is entirely subjective and this thread may not help you in eliminating "bad" places to eat.

Interesting post, the replies are all over...

For us, here are some places we have been to at WDW recently (the last few years) and have no desire to go back any time soon.

California Grille - Great Views and for us, that's about it. The place was, in our opinion, over priced, extremely small portions and way too over 'stylized.' Or as my wife would call it Frou-Frou (is that a word :) ) What I mean by this is tiny portions with little things sticking up in the food to make it look fancy. A lot of people love it. I would try it again, my wife still is refusing.

'Ohana - We went there once about 2 years ago based on the raves. The food was way overdone, the presentation was lacking, the server lackluster. It just wasn't what it was cracked up to be in our opinion. We used to love it when it was the Papeete Bay Verandah. Wish it would come back....

San Angel - What can I say, we get lots of Mexican food here around Chicago. Excellent food.. San Angel seems to us to be Americanized Mexican food at highly inflated prices. It's not that it is terrible, just not worth it to us.

Nine Dragons - Same reason as above. The food is your average Chinese Food available all around here at home and is about 2 1/2 times the cost. Just not worth it to us.

Prime Time Cafe - Call us boring, but I don't want to spend 40 to 100 on a meal and be yelled at by someone serving me. I know it is all in good fun. It just gets old and I like to enjoy myself when I am eating, not be scared to not ask for a certain condiment or worry about my elbows being on the table and being embarassed in the whole dining room. We haven't been there for a while, have no intentions to try it anytime soon. Maybe we are sticks in the mud, oh well.

That is our short list of 'Do Not Go Anymore' Restaurants. It is funny, our list of restaurants that we have enjoyed in the last few years is here on this thread as people's least favorites. Too each his own I guess.

we are pretty simple eaters for the most part. we have children and tend to gravitate towards buffet style dinners at the world. I can really remember having anything disgusting or anything like that. I think it's safe to say that most restaurants in the world are overpriced. hey, it's disney world. a few we probably wont try again: mama melrose(not bad, just small portions for what you pay) alfredo's(again, really, really, really overpriced) polynesian loau....we've generally liked most places we've dined at, particularly: Boma, Biergarten in Germany, Hollywood & Vine, 50' prime time, chef mickey's(yes, we like all the noise),breakfast at Olivia's, the all you can eat chicken at trail's end buffeteria at fort wilderness. oh yea, I almost forgot: the most overrated is CRT at the Magic Kingdom--I will never go through all that fuss for this place again. just my .02

Most of the places mentioned in previous posts we have eaten at and liked or even loved. The worst meal I have had was the San Angel Inn(the sit down outside), the food was marginal ok..not a lot of flavor to discern the different bits of food on the plate. I had eaten there before and loved it, so maybe it was an off day, will try it again next time I go since Mexican is my favorite. The other place was Pinocchios. Had a burger that was leuk-cold and fries that were made from a rubber-potato and a coke from a cola machine that obviously was disgruntled. It also overlooked It's a Small World(insert nervous tic). Other than that We have been satisfied with the food overall. Yeah it's expensive, but hey consider the place you're at.

Trying to decide where to eat is a major part of our pre trip decisions.... Here are the ones that no longer make the list.

Sci-Fi
Tony's
Chef Mickey's Breakfast
Prime Time - not because of the food -DH seems to think he already has to many people yelling at him.

Of course there is also a must do list...with so many wonderful places it is hard to fit them all in when just going for a week. Once we narrow it down then the family debate begins. We also try and fit several new ones in each time.

Must Do's
Spoodle's
Rose and Crown- First night tradition
Le Cellier
Boma's
Artist Point

Here are the new ones's we are trying in July
Jiko
Ohana
Shulas or Flying Fish - still deciding

Denise

One we really like is the counter service in AK which I believe is called Tuskers (?). We thought the roasted chicken / vegetables was quite good. It was only about $7 - $ 8 and was enough for myself and DD (age 5).
