Hi :wave2: I was just wandering, who makes thier own christmas cards? Sister inlaw, DD17 and I are planning to get together this season and make some. This weekend I will be out christmas shopping and hope to have my list ready of the extra supplies we need.
Is there any good sites to go to on the computer for ideas?

I make mine - I love this website. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/

I believe it is mostly for Stampin' Up! consultants but I get great ideas that you can tweak for your own use. Under the gallery they have cards listed alphabetically by Stampin Up stamp set name but I think you can do a search for Christmas or holiday. Hope this helps.

I'm also making my own this year!!
I found an awesome little design in the Paper Crafts - Dec 2006/Jan 2007 issue... My DH even offered to help with them because he liked the design!

I'll convert him to a scrapper yet!

I'm attempting to do some for the first time this year. My track record for getting cards out is beyond poor. I have gotten so far as having them addressed and stamped and they still didn't make it into the box.

I also make mine. Now that my DS is in first grade, though, they have a fundraiser for the actual cards and we make picture ornaments instead. I've made snowmen, a picture of the kids as if they were inside an ornament, mittens. All sorts of things.

We are going to try making ours this year. I bought some simple kits as the kids want to help and do their own thing. They don't take artistic direction well from me.

I buy the prefolded cards to make it easy. They come with the envelopes. I also buy pretty designed card stock like snow flakes or holly and use brads and eyelets to embellish it. Like i use red brads as holly berrys or snowflake brads on snowflake paper. I use vellum inside the card that I printed a sentiment on, on my computer and glue it in. You have to use special for velum only glue if you do that.

I made mine last year and hope to again this year. Here's a tip from me: don't use embossing powder on the inside of the card. Something I learned not to do again. I used embossing powder on a design on the inside of the card, then I put it a picture of my kids. The embossing came off on the pictures, so my kids faces had red Merry Christmas across them. :confused3

I send out over 50 cards most years. I was going to make them this year since I'm not working & thought I would have the time. BUT, when I started shopping for supplies, even though I was using as much stuff as I could from what I had on hand....it got too expensive.

So, instead, just the immediate family will get handmade cards....8 of those. Everyone else gets snowflake xmas cards I got from Michael's $1 bin. 10 cards & envelopes for $1..... I can't beat that!!! They even have glitter on them. They are blank inside, so I'll personalize them somehow. The card is blue & cut into snowflake shape, with white flake on front w/ glitter.

Funny thing is I was planning on making blue snowflake theme cards anyway. :thumbsup2 AND the post office so nicely co-ordinated their holiday stamps to match my cards this year. :teeth: ;)

The ones I'm making are: blue cardstock with a hint of glitter in the paper - folded as the card base - 3 snowflakes punched in all corners. White square on front with sentiment computer printed. Snowflake sticker on the white square. Inside: printing sentiment on vellum & sticking inside just from the top.

I've also got a snowflake foam stamp (cube 79 cents at Walmart with 4 designs on it) that I'm going to try putting white pearlized paint on & stamp the inside of blue card or the back of the vellum. Not sure yet.

I also have a bottle of blue & silver glitter glue that has snowflakes in it too. Might spread this on the white square on front OR maybe under the vellum if I don't use the white paint stamp.

Still have to work it all out.

And of course, my logo computer printed on the back of the card before I start anything.

Every year I say I am going to make my xmas cards and every year I make a couple and then realize crap it is almost xmas so family get homemade and everyone else get storebought. This year though I have already made 30-35 cards, all disney themed of course since I am going next month. I printed off all sorts of different disney clipart designs and attached them to the pre-folded cards in different ways. Some are on vellum and I put them on colored paper and them on the card with brads and used various other things. I have a mickey and minnie, a pooh, a dwarfs, and several others. I then stamped a sentiment inside them all. I will say they all have the same stamp, had to use a shortcut somewhere. I just have to sign, address and send them out. Could be my downfall. :)

Last year's cards were handmade (all SU! products). This year since I've started digital scrapping, I'm designing it on the computer and getting the cards done by Heritage Makers. Yesterday I just got the family pictures we took so this will be my project tomorrow.

That is so funny. I saw those cards. I bought those cards. Also bought the things that match to go with them. They had multiple themes and I bought those also as presents for the teachers this year.

PS-if my SS is observant, she'll know who I am when she get her December package without anothe clue. ;)

I make my cards too ... this year I think I'm going to stay away from embossing all together because I embossed my wedding thank yous and I'm sick of it!!!!

another good idea site is www.twopeasinabucket.com.
